but i have a question ... does this quote,

Coach Todd Haley said that Bowe, who reported to the team's offseason conditioning program last spring about 30 pounds over his target weight, maintained his fitness during his four weeks away from Chiefs headquarters.

mean what i think it means? that is, did Bowe report to the team 30 pounds overweight again? that would be maintaining his "fitness" level, right?

For training camp DBowe showed up looking like a blocking tight end. He lost "around" 30 pounds for the season, and according to Haley, maintained his incredible affletic fitness level during his sabbatical. For what it's worth, he's never played at a correct weight, even "fit" he is at least 10 pounds heavier than he should be. Of course, being a fatso wideout doesn't have much to do with him not being able to catch routine balls. He only catches passes that are "sensational" so that all of his drops are quickly forgotten by the DWF's.

Chiefs TE Brad Cottam is out for the season with a cracked bone in his vertebra. He'll be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Fortunately, there's no spinal cord damage, but it's horrible timing for the 2008 third-round pick. Cottam, invisible for the first 11 weeks for the season, finally broke through last week with four catches for 62 yards against the Browns. Cottam also struggled with injuries in college, so the Chiefs will be leery of handing him the starting job this offseason.

'Tis a shame. Cottam was one of the few bright spots on Sunday, showing excellent speed and terrific hands catching these balls downfield, not just dink-n-dunk stuff. Leonard Pope is a pathetic sumo and can't run, can barely catch. He's going to be starting now. Jake O'Connell is the backup, but he dropped two really easy passes on Sunday, so I know that he's not going to get very many looks. Sean Ryan is in Haley's doghouse, so he's not going to see much action.

In other news, the Chiefs finally released Mark Bradley. He'll be signed by someone else before Matt Jones is, I'll bet, since he still has all of that "affletic potential". He was terrible, as usual, on Sunday. In addition to his usual dropped passes, he was the kick returner, and, on all of his returns, ran sideways, then immediately out of bounds. Pathetic. Of course, to replace him on the roster, the Chiefs signed.......drum roll please.......QUENTIN LAWRENCE! Now, how is this an improvement??

I was wondering what had happened to Cottam this season. He has all the tools with only the injury bug striking often in college. But it's obvious just from the Chiefs' choice of wide receivers this season that they are absolutely pathetic when it comes to judging talent, even among blacks. Mark Bradley, Bobby Wade, Bobby Engram, Amani Toomer, Ashley Lelie,Quentin Lawrence, Terrance Copper, etc., what a cast of has-beens and never-weres. And yeah, Pope is a joke of a tight end.

And to think that Todd Haley made his reputation, prior to becoming the offensive coordinator of the Cardinals, as a wide receiver coach! I guess that he thought that he could magically transform all of these low-dollar scrub affletes into catching machines! All the while largely ignoring the great white talent that is just laying around out there. He's just a typical DWC looking at things through black-tinted glasses.

What makes this even more pathetic is that Bobby Wade runs a 4.66 40 according to NFLdraftscout. So not only can't he catch, he is slow, a wimp and small. Meanwhile Mike Hass, a Biletnikoff award winner, who is a better athlete in every category can't even make a roster.

What makes this even more pathetic is that Bobby Wade runs a 4.66 40 according to NFLdraftscout. So not only can't he catch, he is slow, a wimp and small. Meanwhile Mike Hass, a Biletnikoff award winner, who is a better athlete in every category can't even make a roster.

The list I made of black receiver busts from 1998-2007 pretty much sums it up for us all. At least half the black receivers drafted in that time period severely underperformed. You would think that would open up some doors for white receivers but it hasn't helped much.
