2008 NFL Combine

I figured I'd start a thread where we can post combine news & results. I believe the TE's and O-Linemen are scheduled to weigh in and be measured today.

I was logging the combine invitee's into my spreadsheet and noticed a few Whites who were excluded. Overall, there didn't appear to be any gross injustices given the prospects current ranking in the eyes of the major scouting services & draft guru's. If the consensus is that a guy is undeserving of an invitation, then how can you fault the combine? I think the scouts and gurus are the ones to which the blame should be pinned.

Tamme plans to put on five or six pounds and will participate in all the events at the combine. He trains at Athletes Performance in Pensacola, Fla., and will attend the school's Pro Day March 5. His trainer is Bill Johnson.

The Associated Press reports former Denver Broncos WR Vance Johnson surrendered to Rifle police Thursday, Feb. 21, after failing to appear at a court hearing in a bad-check case. Johnson was accused of writing two bad checks in 2001. He was scheduled to appear at a related hearing Feb. 8, but a warrant for his arrest was issued when he did not show. Johnson played for the Broncos in the 1980s and 90s. (Okay that one wasn't combine related, but I figured it was kind of entertaining...)

DeSean Jackson showed up today 3 inches shorter then expected (5'9") and under 170 lbs. Clearly this should drop him out of the first few rounds of the draft...

But I'm sure some team will fall in love with his "room-brightening smile" or some such attribute and draft him in round 1.

He was a top 50 pick going into the '07 season and suffered from a bad case of catchingballsfromablackquarterbackitis, and like so many other Whites he mysteriously fell to his current position which is borderline draftable. Actually he suffered from ourteamdoesnothaveanoffensiveline. Meyer was throwing balls to Blythe in 04 and 05 when Blythe was at his best. Sometimes it's not always the black quarterback's fault.

2007 - 17 sacks allowed, 3.1 yards per carry

2006 - 38 sacks allowed, 3.0 yards per carry

2005 - 39 sacks allowed, 2.7 yards per carry

2004 - 34 sacks allowed, 3.2 yards per carry

I beg to differ with you, but it looks like the Offensive Line was superior in their Pass Protection and about the same in its run blocking as it has been throughout Blythe's career. Brett Meyer has never put up more then marginal numbers throughout his career, with 2007 CLEARLY being the worst of his tenure.

I don`t know about this. He could run a 4.4 andsomeone like Dick Vermeil would still say he shouldgo up to 250 and being a blocking fullback.

Any rumors on what team might be interest in Tommy Z from Notre Dame? He's currently projected a third or fourth round pick, but ranked as the #3 strong safety by most sources I've seen.

I don't think Carlson's time will hurt him that much. People were not expecting him to put on a Greg Olsen type performance anyways. I like Carlson alot, he put up good numbers in a more pro style offense than alot of the other TE'S so that should help him.

Tamme, Cottam, Barnridge, Stevens have all really helped themselves. Stevens seems to be the most complete TE in the draft. He has alot of all around ability and is the best blocker. Tamme is probably my favorite TE prospect as he has amazing hands, catches everything and has now shown his great speed for the position. Cottam is just an abosolute freak of nature and he might have a shot at being one of the top TE's taken.

Hopefully Carlson will run better at his pro day. I think TE's in the low 4.8's is alright, he probably needs to drop .5 or .6 to get to the point where his time isn't an issue.

Mike Mayock's "positives and negatives" for players that are listed at times at the bottom of the screen are very predictable. My favorite is Spencer Larsen, who is Mayock's number four ILB but is described as "positive: overachiever, negative: lacks athleticism."

I wonder if Mayock has ever seen a white player at the Combine who doesn't have the mystical "tight hips." I know he defended Brian Leonard as a TB last year, but overall this guyhas always beena reliable Caste hound.

Bret Meyer absolutely sucks. I am an ISU alum and watch them quite regularly., Terrible form. The ball floats on him because he drops his elbow.

I find it hilarious that McCarney lost his job backing this piece of crap. The guy that transferred from ISU after it looked like he was going to be a backup behind Meyer is on Kipers list of Junior QB's-Lorenzen from Connecticut.

No kiddin'. You saw that he had Jacob Hester as one of the top three fullbacks too, right? The starting tailback for a major program that finished as national champs(IIRC, I don't follow college much)? And he's a fullback?

Nelson had a good time his first attempt at the 40. I am hoping he gets a 4.49 just to shut people up. Blythe running a 4.61 was a pretty big deal to since he is a big guy. I like both of them alot obviously.
