2007 White WRs and TEs

I really think there is four white WRs that could be drafted this year. I think Jordy Nelson could go as early as the 3rd round if he keeps producing (if he does well at the Combine he could go in the early second round). Jordan Shipley (JR) could also go in the 3rd round. Todd Blythe could get drafted in the 4th round. Danny Amendola could be drafted late. Face it Luke Swan is done; he was at best a late round pick anyway and now he is out for the rest of the season.

Expect Hartline, Jurovich and Dicky Lyons JR. all juniors to stay in school and improve their status and get drafted next year. I know I'm optimistic, but things are looking up at WR for us IMO.

Am I missing any Juniors or Seniors that have a chance of getting drafted?

Is this the same Brian Hartline that "lacks breakaway speed"? I know it is, but can't help getting a dig in at the so-called sportwriter who wrote that about him at every opportunity. I will probably stay pissed-off at that lamebrain for quite a while. Being a track coach, I know that a guy who was the Ohio high school Division I state champion in both the 110m. and 300m. hurdles cannot lack breakaway speed. In my opinion, the only reason he supposedly lacks breakaway speed is because he is white.

COLUMBUS - Ohio State wide receivers Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline - the two Brians, in the coaches' parlance - know precisely what Buckeyes fans are thinking.

Who are these guys?

Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez jumped to the NFL a year early and Roy Hall graduated, taking with them around 70 percent of the catches, yards and touchdowns provided by the wideouts during Ohio State's 12-1 run to the national championship game last season.

Robiskie and Hartline, the top two returnees, along with Ray Small and Albert Dukes, combined for all of 56 catches - three fewer than Ginn had by himself.

"We need to earn the respect of the people around us," Hartline said this week after one of the Buckeyes' spring workouts. "That's how the people before us did it, and that's how we should do it too."

Many of OSU's scrapbook moments from recent years have revolved around big plays by their big-play wide receivers - now departed. It won't be just the fans who will have a hard time making the transition to a new set of receivers. The coaches feel the same way but remain optimistic.

"No, they're not up to the standards - yet. It's only April," position coach Darrell Hazell said of the receiving corps. "Hopefully, by September we'll be hitting on all cylinders. We've got a long way to go. But we've got some good players. As long as they keep listening and learning, we'll be OK when it's all said and done."

But to hear Robiskie tell is, there's no need to wait.

"If you ask us, we can do everything," he said. "We've got a strong corps. We've got diversity among us in what we can do. It's so great, because we all can do different things. We can stretch the field at the same time; we all can go into traffic and make those tough catches."

Robiskie had 29 catches a year ago and was on the receiving end of the 50-yard arrow from Troy Smith against Penn State that all but sealed the Heisman Trophy for Smith.

A junior, he has soaked up what he saw from Ginn and Gonzalez. He said their message was a simple one.

"Play fast every play," said Robiskie, whose father is a long-time NFL assistant. "In high school, you might think you can take a play off here and there, but that doesn't happen here. Those guys said you've got to go hard every play because you're going against some of the best every week."

Hartline, a quarterback until midway through his junior year in high school, has fought a hamstring injury this spring but figures to be in the rotation at wingback. At 6 feet 3 and 180 pounds, he doesn't have breakneck speed and isn't all that physical, but he has shown a willingness to make tough grabs in traffic.

Small has Ginn-like speed, while Dukes, who is from the same Florida town and school as former Buckeyes receiving star Santonio Holmes, will see a lot more playing time on offense. He had just two catches in 2006.

wide receiver Dicky Lyons, Jr. and tight end Jacob Tamme are both having big games for Kentucky against Florida.

Tamme has 4 catches for 60 yards and a touchdown, and had another big gainer called back on a holding penalty. and he is playing with a turf toe.

Lyons is having a HUGE day: 4 kickoff returns for 90 yards; 8 catches, 124 yards and 3 touchdowns!

Tebow, is carrying Florida nearly by himself... he's thrown for 4 TDs so far and ran for 73 yards, thus far. ooh! he just ran in a touchdown! 78 yards rushing the game!

announcer Bob Griese is very typical in his caste-speak except when talking about Tebow. Dicky Lyons has made the Florida secondary look slow the entire game and Griese even said he runs a 4.43-40. but here's the kicker... on Lyons' 50-yard touchdown catch and run, Griese said Lyons was "just fast enough" as he blew the doors off the entire Gator secondary.

a few plays later, when Percy Harvin (a black receiver for the Gators) barely made it into the endzone, Griese raved about the "break-away" speed. even though he BARELY out ran the Kentucky defender. bah!

edited to add: Griese also kept saying, "Woodson has to look for Burton, his go-to guy." then, after Lyons would make another big play, he would say something to the effect of "well, that will work, too."

Lyons finished with 8 catches for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns, and 5 kickoff returns for 119 yards. Jacob Tamme ended up with 6 catches for 68 yards and 1 touchdown.Edited by: Jimmy Chitwood

This article is linked by DraftDaddy from Yahoo Sports. The thing is that white players like him are not "rare natural athletes," they are all over the place. The problem is that nobody will recruit or play them.

Sherbrooke (Canada) senior wide receiver Samuel Giguere is attracting interest. He finished second in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) with 45 receptions for 871 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging more than 19 yards per catch. He has been timed in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash with a career best time of 4.35. Giguere ran 4.41 for me during the workout session of this past spring's East-West Bowl held in Quebec City. He is a rare natural athlete with a 40-inch vertical, 4.14 short shuttle, 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump and has also completed 23 reps of 225 pounds during offseason training. Not subject to NCAA rules, he was able to sign with an agent while still having a year of college eligibility remaining. He signed with well-known CFL agent Darren Gill who has represented Jason Clermont and Chris Bauman, two of the top-rated receivers in recent CFL Draft memory. You could hear Giguere's name among the players assigned to the East-West Shrine Game or another postseason game.
