no, what he's implying that Cowher (who by the way is a good coach and just led Steelers to appear in the Superbowl)is still pretty young and isn't going anywhere plus him leaving wouldn't help whites case in Pittsburgh so much (which unfortunately is probably true - unless there's a huge mentality chabge and awareness of caste system increases there won't be any significant change in the way whites aree treated at some positions).
That's how i interpret 89's post...

Corey Dillon isn't getting any younger so maybe the Pats will let Heath Evans become a sort of 'White Bettis' utilized in short-yardage situations. (after-all they did let Evans actually start a game or two last season)

Cowher is a good coach but he is definitely a proponent of the caste system. Kordell Stewart?

It has been speculated that this will be Cowher's '"swan song" and I am not saying if its true or not. He has not been signed to a contract extension and bought a home in North Carolina which has lead many to speculate this could be his last season. It is a possibility so in that regard I do not see why its unintelligent to think Cowher might retire.

Cowher's wife is from North Carolina, Bill went to college there and they vacation there often, and the home they bought was for $2.5 million. People generally don't buy multimillion dollar homes unless they intend to make use of them. Speculation about Cowher retiring after this season has been rampant in Pittsburgh and also has received national attention. 89123 ought to know what he's talking about before coming on as a newbie and attacking someone else's posts.

please send me a message, i stated my case

That won't be necessary. It's clear many people here are interested in ruining the thread. So here is my response.

You attacked a white coach for winning the Superbowl. That's not just ridiculous that's stupid. A Superbowl winning team is "dead" and needs somebody to breathe "life" into it? We're here because we're not happy with the state of the game. Not to attack a guy who is one of the best coaches in the league and the longest tenured too.

There is no coach who does not do the caste football thing. You can't replace Cowher with a guy who will start 15 white players or whatever level of whiteness you want to see. That coach does not exist.

Every coach starts more black players than white players. At worst the Steelers are average. They won the Superbowl with 5 white starters on offense and were 1 guard or tackle away from having a majority white starting offense. Heck, the defensive line this year will have 2 white starting tackles. It will be 100% white when Hoke and Hampton are rotating.

If Cowher retired, who's the next head coach? You don't know. Cowher has been a winner for 15 years. What about the new guy? You don't know. Will the new guy play more white players or less? You don't know. Rooney was the man who created the "You must interview black head coaches" rule. How do you know they won't hire a black head coach? You don't know. It seems like all you understand is "Too many black players, this coach has to go." You do understand that the next head coach will probably, by easy to predict trends, win less games and start less white players?

So Jody, what new ground to you think you are breaking here? Of course, with 32 predominantly black teams there are going to be good ones and bad ones. Are we to salute the good ones and only talk about the bad ones? This is about white players getting a level playing field with all 32 teams not just the bad ones.

Bill Cowher for most of his career has been one of the most fervent believers in the Caste System. His first move as head coach was to take Merrill Hoge, the Steelers' main ball carrier for the previous three seasons and make him into a pure blocking fullback. He brought in an all-black offensive line and made the defense all black.

Cowherwas the architect of The Great Seven Year Kordell Stewart Experiment. He coddled Kordell to a sickening degree, refusing to bring in anything but journeymen to give him "competition" when it was obvious to everyone, even black worshipping fans, that Kordell Stewart was not starting quarterback material.

Cowher is notorious for screaming at white placekickers and punters on national television when they made a bad kick yet never reacting to the most boneheaded mistakes by black players. He totally screwed over numerous talented white wide receivers, the most well-known being Danny Farmer.

Leonardfan and I have every right to not be happy with the direction of the Steelers these days. They had an all-black draft in '06. After aging Jeff Hartings and Alan Faneca is an all-black o-line. All three QBs competing for the backup spots behind Big Ben are black.

Are we not supposed to mention any of this because the Steelers won the Super Bowl last year? Are we to bow to Bill Cowher and give him a pass when it comes to the Caste System?

Don't come on here and attack knowledgeable posters and show your ignorance.

i agree with the (obvious) fact of Cowher being a caste system coach, but this guys was also right, the next one might be even worse for all we know...

They talked to chad johnson on the sidlines of the bengals game tonight. Instead of asking what he had done in the offseason to get better at football they asked him what kind of celibrations he had planed for the season. Five minite conversation about celerbrations no talk of football. Just shows you were societys at in this day and age.

I watched the Bengals game tonight. The focus on Johnson got tiresome. From being enamored with his mohawk and earings to his celebrations, it was endless. His ability to score repeated touchdowns at ease seemed to be so much of a given, that it seemed implied that the hardest part of CJ's game days would be coming up with 'creative' celebrations

In tonights game I am looking forward to seeing Dustin Fox and Chad Greenway. It will also be interesting to see if Mike McMahon has a better grasp of Childress's offense. He is a very athletic QB but inconsistent with hisaccuracy.

Tony Scheffler was a great 3-sport athlete in Michigan, in a town just
outside of Ann Arbor (he played baseball too at WMU). But U-M didn't
know he existed, just like they missed on his future teammate Greg
Jennings, from Kalamazoo/WMU now with the Packers, and stud defensive
end Dan Bazuin, a smalltown Northern Michigan boy now at CMU who will
go in the first three rounds of next year's draft.

Rob Lee was a backup cornerback for Bills and recorded 2 tackles last weekend and tonight Dustin Fox played for Vikings, also recording two tackles... let's see how their fate will develop in regular season....

i didn't watch Vikes game, did Fox play corner?

I didn't notice Fox, but I did notice that Andrew Walter, the white backup QB to Aaron Brooks, outplayed him big time. The sideline reporter noted that Randy Moss had nothing but praise for Walter, and said he didn't know where they would be playing five years from now, but he (Moss) would love having Walter as his quarterback. Bad feelings between Moss and Brooks already, or actual recognition on the part of Randy Moss that Aaron Brooks is not the answer?

Brooks looked tentative, tried to make some throws into tight coverage, and got sacked in the short time I watched him play before Walter took over.

DraftDaddy's encouraging observations about how the Patriots are using Garrett Mills:

After a rough stretch, including a battle with injuries, Patriots rookie Garrett Mills comes up big in his first preseason game.

DD.com comment: As we stated before the draft, Mills is really too short to play tight end effectively in the NFL at about 6' 1" and he's just not a fullback. Although he might fit at H-Back, we were probably the only site on the Net to suggest the NFL slim Mills down a bit and turn him into a wide receiver. He showed pretty good speed at the Combine (4.54) and he displayed an incredible knack for getting open downfield and great hands at Tulsa.

Seems like the Patriots, who have been ravaged by injuries at wide receiver, took our advice (sort of), as Mills played some slot receiver in the first preseason game. If the Patriots want to waste a high draft pick, they can attempt to fatten up a fast, talented athlete and try to make him a plodding blocking fullback. If they want a player that can contribute, let him do what he does best -- catch the ball downfield and move the chains. Seems like the Patriots are leaning towards the latter/wiser option.

a short piece on Matt Jones...

Matt Jones shows big-play skills
Sunday, August 13, 2006 - 11:32 PM
By: Michael C Wright
The Times-Union

Miami - The first ball came his way ... and was picked off by Eddie Jackson.

On the second pass - bam - his helmet was knocked sideways from a vicious blow by Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas.

This wasn't the way that Matt Jones wanted to start this game. This was supposed to be the night when the second-year pro finally would have a chance to prove the doubters wrong - a game in which he'd show he's capable of being the go-to receiver that the Jaguars desperately need.

Then that third pass came.

Beating Miami cornerback Will Allen on a deep post, Jones cradled a pass from Byron Leftwich. Jones stopped, then shoved Allen to the side before lumbering into the end zone for a 50-yard touchdown with 6:48 left in the second quarter of the Jaguars' 31-26 preseason-opening win over the Dolphins on Saturday.

The play lasted just a few seconds but once again gave spectators a glimpse of Jones' freakish athleticism.

"It was good to get the ball down field to Matt [Jones]. He's our 'X' factor," Leftwich said. "He's the guy that is going to make big plays for us this year."

He'd better. Because without the services of Jimmy Smith - the franchise's all-time leading receiver who suddenly retired during the offseason - the Jaguars could be in for some passing-game struggles.

Judging by the offense's first-half performance, the Jaguars surely will struggle with the passing game during the preseason, with inexperienced players such as Ernest Wilford, Reggie Williams and Jones expected to carry the load.

Jones caught 48 passes for 483 yards last season, scoring five touchdowns. Without Smith in the offense, the Jaguars would like to see Jones' numbers improve.

Leftwich hit on just two of his first six pass attempts, with an interception. Before the Jones touchdown, the offense's longest pass play was a 22-yard screen to running back Fred Taylor. But the scoring strike seemed to ignite the offense as Leftwich finished the second quarter hitting on 4-of-5 passes for 74 yards.

"We feel like we're going to be able to have some big-play opportunities with Matt," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "Certainly Byron can get it there."

Jones just has to get open.

Lumbering? wtf? Since when has Matt Jones ever lumbered anywhere? They make it sound like he is a 280 lb. TE or something.

Sportswriters just can't help themselves. To use an adjective like - lumbering - in describing Matt Jones is absurd!

Online Dictionary.

intr.v. lum·bered, lum·ber·ing, lum·bers

 1.
To walk or move with heavy clumsiness. See Synonyms at blunder.

To move with a rumbling noise.

adj : slow and laborious because of weight; "the heavy tread of tired troops"; "moved with a lumbering sag-bellied trot"; "ponderous prehistoric beasts"; "a ponderous yawn" [syn: heavy, ponderous]

They are used to a long striding white guy beating people to the end zone. Matt Jones' running style has always reminded me of Archie Manning's. They both had long legs and long strides. Their speed is deceptive because of those long strides. They look like they are going slow because their legs don't move so fast, but they cover huge swaths of yardage with each plant of the foot. Still, even if this writer knew this, he should have reported it, otherwise he is just using his bully pulpit to keep spreading lies about white athletes capabilities.
