    2021 Track Season Results

The biggest news yesterday was yet another sweep. Emily Sisson ran a stunning 10k, running away from the field and achieving a great time despite 86 degree heat. She was followed by Karissa Schweizer and Alicia Monson (who ended up vomiting and being taken to a hospital, but was proud of having...

    Las Vegas Raiders General Thread

I have a different take on Nassib. Personally, I think it was a brilliant move. With this one stroke of genius, he has become a member of a protected class, even more protected than most of his teammates. He is now uncuttable. He will never be ignored by announcers again. He will never make a...

    2021 Track Season Results

Another day (or night, actually), another sweep by three beauties. This time in the US Women's Championship, where the fabulous Emma Coburn led Courtney Frerichs and profile-in-determination Val Constien across the line. Outside the sprints (and the women's 800), this has been the best US...

    2021 Track Season Results

Agreed, Jack. While everyone is arguing about our sucky sprinters, last night three beautiful blondes swept the US Championships in the 1500 and will represent us at the Olympics. Three other beauties swept the 5000. Meanwhile, Clayton won the 800 and Bryce Hoppel also made the squad at that...

Fingers crossed that we will see Jewell at the NCAAs. I don't see any evidence that he felt something in the 100. At the end of the race, he isn't checking himself or walking abnormally. But he pulled up almost immediately in the 200, which might well have been the better of his events. It...

    Good Books to Read

For anyone who likes history, I highly recommend "Walls: A History of Civilization in Blood and Brick." It goes into how men were once trained to become warriors, but that changed with the spread of the ancient walled cities. It argues that walls made civilization possible. Lots of great stuff...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 44.84 and 8.25 LJ

Well, someone has got to post this. Quite possibly the video of the year (and the article has some good quotes, too). The video is in the second of the two twitter links in the article. Prepare to smile...

    2018 Season news

Here's a name I don't recall. Blake Smith, 5th at USTAF indoor 60m, in a time of 6.54. Running unattached. It's a great time, but I'm sure it benefited from the altitude. More impressed by Emily Sloan's performance, as she is still in HS.

    High Schoolers

High schooler Emily Sloan finished fifth at the USATF championships (the adult championships) in the 60m, where every competitor is a threat to win an Olympic gold. Her time was the second best HS time ever and the 6th best world U20 time all-time...

    2018 Season news

(Edited: sorry, it looked like this video was only posted a few weeks ago, so I thought it was a new record. Still, I'll leave it up, because it's a feast for the eyes. Plus, the Shinnick news is new). Also, former high school phenom Zach Shinnick has been running well as a freshman at USC...

    track recruits

Couldn't figure out where to put this, so I created a new thread. I was just looking at track-powerhouse Oregon's recruits, and they have signed a couple of interesting sprinters: Rieker Daniel. Personal Bests: 10.66 (100m) | 21.49 (200m) | 49.66 (400m)Here is a highlight video: Christopher...

2017 World Track & Field Championships

Yeah, I posted too soon. LeMaitre out. So close. But Warholm was awesome!

2017 World Track & Field Championships

Guliyev in the final! Guliyev looked great yet again. Whether or not he medals will depend heavily on whether Van Niekerk recovers from all his racing. But Guliyev won his semifinal and given the time and wind, he remains, as I said weeks ago, a dark horse for the gold. Three guys posted...

2017 World Track & Field Championships

Oops. Spoke too soon. The Greek guy also just made it to the semis. I would rate his chances about the same as LeMaitre and Tortu's. Looked good. Actually, gun to my head, I'd say he looked better than LeMaitre, and I'm not sure Tortu didn't also look better than LeMaitre, but I give...

2017 World Track & Field Championships

Adding to that, Tortu is through! He beat out Jamaican Olympian medalist Warren Weir by the thickness of a piece of paper. Time wasn't great, though. He's an injury-free year away from making real noise. So I'll rate the chances as I did for the Olympics. 1) Guliyev. I continue to see...

2017 World Track & Field Championships

Talbot, Volko, Guliyev, and LeMaitre all through so far. Talbot looked great. Ran stride for stride with Van Niekerk. Guliyev looked magisterial. An easy victory over an American and LeMaitre. LeMaitre looked like he had just enough left to separate himself from the also-rans. His speed...

    Guliyev in sub 10 club

As long as I'm at it, I don't believe any posted his 19.98 from June:

    Guliyev in sub 10 club

Unbelievable. We started following Guliyev so many years ago that I never would have believed it could still happen. However, watching this race and his early 10.02, he's flying and doing so consistently. With him running this fast in the short sprint, he is now a genuine dark horse...

    High Schoolers

Screw Curtis Godin. He quit and was never close the top national guys. Schinnick, on the other hand...Jack said he could be our next Jeremy Wariner. Well, he just CRUSHED JEREMY WARINER'S BEST HIGH SCHOOL TIME. In hs, Wariner ran a sensational 45.57. Half the time, no one in the country...

    High Schoolers

Shae Anderson is even more impressive than we realized. Turns out she caught an infection, got terribly bronchitis, could hardly breathe, and couldn't even jog for 2 weeks--and still dominated the California championships: “Three days before CIF prelims, she was gone,” her father and coach...

    2017 season

A few notes: 1. Julian Reuss ran 9.99 in Stockholm. Unfortunately, it wasn't wind legal. 2. Karsten Warholm won again in Stockholm. That's two consecutive diamond league wins for him, which is unreal. 3. I can't believe no one is talking about Jakob Ingebrigtsen. He's the young bro of...

    High Schoolers

Just some perspective on Shinnick's time: A number of years ago, we got justifiably excited about a high school star named Brady Gehret, who went on to reach the finals of the US Olympic trials eventually. Unfortunately, he got into trouble at school, and that was the last of him. We'll never...

    High Schoolers

And just like that Zach Shinnick has destroyed yet another field to win the regionals or something. He blistered a 46.38 with no one capable of pushing him. He's capable of a 45 if he finds a worthy competitor in the CA state championships. Pretty impressive for someone coming back from...

    2017 season

While the major sports have added so many games that they are basically year round, track season gets smaller every year. The colleges are running fewer meets and almost no dual meets, and they sit out their stars most of the time. There are nowadays hardly any pro meets, and most athletes are...

    2017 NFL Draft

I'm not sure why the combine site doesn't show the results of every test, but according to a news report, Christian (perhaps when he stayed late to run the receiver drills) led all running backs with an 11.03 time in the 60-yd shuttle. I checked on the combine site and that time would have put...
