    2011 Jacksonville Jaguars

Thanks for the info about Harris and Tagliabue. A GM has more to do with putting a team together but the head coach usually has the last word on cuts and trades. The head coach is the one who deals with players day to day. He used to be something of an authoritarian but for the last 30-35 years...

    2011 Jacksonville Jaguars

The photo is from the 1974 NFC Championship game in which Harris was the Ram QB. The box score is for the 1976 NFC Championship game, Harris' last as a member of the Rams. That day he was Number 2 to Pat Haden. Harris warmed up briefly early in the third quarter with the Rams behind 17-0. When...

    NFL Week 12

Nice to see someone here who goes back farther than me. Gastineau may or may not have been the first to do the sack dance, but he was the first to get a lot of attention doing it. Years later, Gastineau tried boxing and won a few against barely alive stiffs. When a below mediocre club fighter...

    Justin Verlander

Newcombe's career was almost over when I started following baseball. He was one of the best and most famous pitchers of his time. However, Newk was often criticized for failing in playoff and World Series games, game 7 of the 1956 Series in particular. After his playing days, Newcombe went...

Alabama's Iron Bowl and Integration-Was Football Victory Worth It?

Yes, that's what would probably happen.

In 1971, Vida Blue won the AL MVP and Cy Young awards. He didn't win Rookie of the Year because he pitched a few games in 1969 and 1970.

Suh cost his team whatever chance they had to win the game.

    NFL Week 12

Anybody besides me remember watching the 1961 Thanksgiving Day Packer-Lion game on TV? The Packers won 17-9, with Jim Taylor rushing 19-94 with 2 TDs. One thing I recall is the Packers were wearing their home jerseys and the Lions in white.

Another great post by Paul Kersey of Stuff Black People Don't Like on football and race

In the emails we exchanged, Kersey told me he had articles on Auburn and Alabama in the works. He also is writing a book on college football in black and white. The research Kersey has done on these topics is way beyond what has been on CF. A book I suggested to him is "Football My Way," by Joe...

Another great post by Paul Kersey of Stuff Black People Don't Like on football and race

For the most part, Kersey does his own research. I've exchanged several emails with him and suggested books and articles he would find useful. He is extremely well-versed on the historical side of football. You don't always find this in someone born in 1984.

    "Jordy-Jordy-Jordy"

A thought that just occured to me is that 50 years ago, there were several white wide receivers similar to Jordy Nelson. Offhand, I remember Buddy Dial, Sonny Randle, and Del Shofner.

This big day by Jordy is even better since it came right after the news stories this past week.

    Caste Matchups Week Twelve

Yes, "they were powerhouses back then." SEC fans said their conference was the best 45 years ago when they were all-white.

Landry was somewhat controversial until the Cowboys won Super Bowl VI. Many thought Tom Landry was the reason Dallas couldn't win the big one. The program overall was favorable to Tom Landry.

Thread On Race and College Football at View From The Right

Lawrence Auster's View From the Right blog has a thread (http://www.amnation.com/vfr/archives/020985.html) on the Penn State Scandal with a comment from SBPDL's Paul Kersey and race in college football. Several VFR posters, in particular one named Sage McLaughlin, don't think white players are...

    2011 NFL Week 10

As I've written for years, it has been predicted for 35 years that QB would eventually become a "black" position. There has been probably more hope and corporate money invested in Vick and now Newton than any so far.

will a bunch of white boys go beat up on an SEC team?

I did exactly that. It still didn't work. I was going to reply to the post about Keith Lincoln. I'll make a post on Lincoln sometime on the Forum.

    Joe Frazier passes!

The so-called Sport Historian remembers Quarry's next fight after being stopped by Frazier in 1969. Quarry met George Chuvalo in the Garden (MSG kept giving Quarry fights)). Chuvalo knocked Quarry out. Jerry's excuse this time was "I lost the count." Glad to hear that Joe Frazier was a nice guy...
