He's only the 2nd player ever to win the Rookie of the year, the Cy Young, and the MVP, who's the other? No cheating!! Correct guesses win free membership to the CF message board for one year!!! (Hint: I would never have guessed in a million years).

I cheated and did a little research. All I can say is I think the black avatars are getting to you.

In 1971, Vida Blue won the AL MVP and Cy Young awards. He didn't win Rookie of the Year because he pitched a few games in 1969 and 1970.

You're right! I didn't even realize he was black at first.

Hopefully I have sufficiently jinxed Maclin enough, because I don't like the black avatars either.

Maybe one more?

Yes. As per agreement there will be no cost for you to post here at CF for the next year.

Newcombe's career was almost over when I started following baseball. He was one of the best and most famous pitchers of his time. However, Newk was often criticized for failing in playoff and World Series games, game 7 of the 1956 Series in particular.

After his playing days, Newcombe went public about his very bad drinking problem. I once heard him talking about this on a Nashville radio station. He was very articulate.
