    Devon Wylie - WR

I can't help but wonder if Devon Wylie could be related to Joe Wylie, an Oklahoma RB during 1970-72 when OU put in the wishbone. Joe Wylie had excellent speed. I recall him returning a punt for a TD in the 1972 Sugar Bowl. Joe Wylie's best Oklahoma year was as a sophomore in 1970. He was...

    Bernhard Goetz

Goetz received the Zimmerman treatment in that even after a grand jury refused to indict him, the Manhattan DA kept trying to find a way to prosecute him. Goetz was completely unrepenant for what he did and made no apology whatsoever. Ron Kuby finally won a huge civil judgement against Goetz...

Top 10 Things We Miss About Football

I first started watching pro football on TV every week in 1958, age 8. One thing about the TV coverage in those days, you hardly noticed the announcers. They were low-key, didn't get in the way and were easy on the ears. This is something else I miss about football. I can recall seeing the...

    Bernhard Goetz

Yes, we want to support Bernhard Goetz. He was hailed as a hero by most people. I saw him on a Biography Channel program several months ago, and Goetz is doing well.

    Bernhard Goetz

And just what is your point? I followed the Goetz Affair when it happened and at no time did the MSM refer to him as Jewish. They described him as white and nothing else.

    Bernhard Goetz

Get over it. Goetz was treated by the MSM as a white man throughout the whole affair.

    Bernhard Goetz

Funny thing, Goetz would have gotten clean away with it if he hadn't turned himself in after going to New Hampshire. After the shooting, Goetz got off the subway car, went up to the street, and took a cab to his apartment. Nobody could have identified him as the shooter if he hadn't turned...

Author Says Evidence Proves Pro Sports Rigged

There is a long thread going on this book at the Pro Football Research Association (PFRA) Forum. Brian Tuohy has joined in the posting. As Forum members know, I am a skeptic concerning vast fixed game conspiracies. I don't have any respect for Tuohy's fantasies either. He thinks Peyton Manning...

NFL Network Top 10 Heisman Winners In NFL

There were several news stories critical of this list, mainly for having Tim Tebow on it and ranking him ahead of Earl Campbell and Marcus Allen in particular. There was also criticism for including Cam Newton after only one season.

There is a simple obvious reason that there are no white corners in the NFL

Don made this same point several years ago on the Forum in reference to running backs. He wrote that the assumption held by almost everyone was that the slowest, stiffest black RB was faster and more elusive than the most athletic white RB prospect in the United States.

There is a simple obvious reason that there are no white corners in the NFL

I've observed football for over 50 years. Comparing Riggins and Payton, Riggins had more straight ahead speed than Payton ever would before a knee injury in 1972, and still might have later on. I first saw Riggins play as a Kansas sophomore in 1968. Even as something of a plowhorse type in Super...

NFL Network Top 10 Greatest Hands

I saw an interview with Alworth a year or so ago. He said he dropped 3 passes in a game in his rookie year and didn't do it again. Yes, stickum wouldn't help near as much as the gloves receivers use now, which are specially made for the job.

NFL Network Top 10 Greatest Hands

Yes, Biletnikoff used stickum which Berry and Largent didn't. I was struck by the films of Carter making catches with tailor-made gloves while the announcer said he had the best "hands" of all time.

Most Efficient Deep-Threat WR Ever...Don Beebe.

What do you mean by "they didn't pass a lot?" Did you ever see the Jets play between 1965-69 when they had Namath throwing to Maynard and George Sauer?

    McNabb nonsense....

Absolutely. Something many posters on this Forum don't grasp is that things were very different 50-60 years ago. One, white players weren't shut out then. Two, black athletes were as Don says, modest and well-spoken, Ollie Matson and Joe Perry for example. It sure changed from 1965 on. White...

As usual, Don is on target. Tebow isn't yet a Super Bowl QB off his performance last season.

NFL: Saints' defense had 'bounty fund'

These are the biggest suspensions since Hornung and Karras in 1963. By the way, I've read that bounties of this kind are sometimes used in black college football. I wonder if Williams (and Payton) was doing it as a way of "relating to players," something that a coach in the modern NFL has to do.
