    NCAA Indoors 2011

Well, it looks like it was bizarro world at the NCAAs Friday. All the analysts and message boards are scratching their heads, as the runners with the fastest 800 times didn't even qualify for the finals (Greer, Loxsom, Primm all crapped out, although at least Greer was throwing up). The fastest...

    NCAA Indoors 2011

The start lists are out. I was pleased to see that Gehret is in a heat with Torrin Lawrence (second best 400 runner in the country) and Braddy is in a heat with Kirani James (probably the best 400 runner in the entire world now). With any luck, they could be dragged to great times and make it to...

That's an interesting point, actually. I suspect you might be on to something.

    NCAA Indoors 2011

Thanks, guys. Now I don't know the names on the female side as well, but it doesn't look as good. So far as I can tell ZERO to pull for in the 60, 200, or 400, which is just ridiculous. In the men's the changeover is almost total at the 800, whereas with the women the 800 is transitional, split...

    NCAA Indoors 2011

Okay, the NCAA released the list of athletes for the championships this weekend. I'll give a quick rundown. 60--Jurgilas is in. That's the only name I recognize, and he's not especially competitive. 200--Niit and Byram are in with extremely competitive times. It wouldn't be impossible for...

    2011 Indoor season

Yeah, I've been touting that Arkansas 4 by 400 group for a week or so. As individuals, Niit, Braddy, and Skidmore have the ninth, tenth, and eleventh best 400 times in the entire world this year--not limited to college runners. Braddy also has the twelfth best time in the world. And he's a...

    Watch list

Christophe LeMaitre wasn't the only runner worth watching this weekend. Most colleges took it easy, but Penn State decided to stay sharp with some relays--and, man, did two of our guys show up. First off, in the 4 by 400, true freshman Brady Gehret ran a SIZZLING 45.8 anchor leg. It doesn't get...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Nice to see Christophe so consistently under 6.6, but his start just wasn't there today. In the meanwhile, it's worth noting that the two that beat him are 1) Chambers--lifetime suspension from Olympics for steroid use, and 2) Obikwelu--also recently got red-handed, but not yet officially...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

I can only get it in French. Sorry you missed it, as Christophe looks good. Still some races left, though: http://fr.justin.tv/bobomelody#/w/933647952

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Yeah, and the starter's gun went off so quickly after the set, I thought there was no way anyone would run a good time. It was a pretty superb 6.55.

    Hannah Cunliffe

A little video for all you Cunliffe fans. A rather impressive demonstration, handled with ease and aplomb: http://www.king5.com/new-day-northwest/15-Year-Old-Sprinter-Phenom-117238668.html Plus, an interview after her disappointing 60 this past weekend...

    season starts down under

Well, I missed it. Didn't realize it would take place in the middle of the night. Some thoughts on the results: Looks like it was windy, which depresses times in longer events even more than shorter ones, because guys need to face that wind lap after lap (simple SAT physics that it slows you...

    season starts down under

HUGE meet in Melbourn coming up this weekend. Possibly the best middle distance lineup we'll see outside of a world championship--a great opportunity to find out what kind of shape some of these guys are in. In the 800, Symmonds is going against the Kenyan Rudisha (the world record holder). In...

    2011 Indoor season

Here's a video of one of my favorites, Laura Roesler ("supergirl"). Once again, she demonstrates that she should probably be specializing in the 400, not the 800. As a freshman, she's had a good year in the 800, and should finish in the top 5 at the NCAA's, but in meet after meet she runs the...

    the next Wariner? Pick one

Well, I haven't predicted Arkansas will take the NCAA 4 by 400, but I will be pulling for them. As for predictions, I do think they stand a good shot, given they have the fastest time in the world. Braddy was just way too good for Florida's anchor, so I think they'll beat Florida. Arkansas's...

    2011 Indoor season

I'm not familiar with Courtney. Amazed he won the US championships, but freshmen Neil Braddy ran a faster time than Courtney's winning run twice this weekend (see the next Wariner thread), and both Marek Niit and Ben Skidmore beat that time, too. It's an absolute Renaissance in the 400 (although...

It was a live stream, but maybe some videos will show up soon.

    the next Wariner? Pick one

The hits just keep coming! Arkansas (with Skidmore, Niit, and Braddy) just ran the fastest 4 by 400 in the world this year. They were actually in second until Braddy took the baton for the anchor leg and blew past his competition. Man, that kid is fast. I tell you, he's the next Sebastian Coe if...

    the next Wariner? Pick one

I just stumbled upon a link to the SEC championships and enjoyed watching Braddy in the finals, along with Niit and Ben Skidmore. He didn't win, but that would have been a tall order, given the SEC's strength in that event and the fact that Braddy is a skinny, underdeveloped freshman, but man...

    the next Wariner? Pick one

Neil Braddy was on fire yesterday. Smoked a 46.03 indoor 400 in the qualifying rounds of the SEC championships. That means he wrested away the title of fastest freshman from Brady Gehret, who had run a 46.25 a few weeks ago. Based on his relay work, I'm not surprised that Braddy had this time in...

    2011 Indoor season

I hear you. We are one pulled muscle away from having zero sprinters of note, if that muscle happens to be in one of LeMaitre's legs. He's it. The older guys are mediocre at best and wouldn't even be able to make it to the NCAA semi-finals if they were American. They can't finish within ten...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Nice--he still hasn't gotten his late-race speed back, but that was the first time I've seen him pull ahead right after the start. I mean, am I imagining it, or did he show much more explosion? Now if he can get his stride back after 40 meters, he's in business.

Whoa--guys, we may have missed a big one. Perhaps this should be filed in the Aussie thread, but Nicholas Hough has officially got wheels. He's a hurdler (correction: the best youth hurdler in the world) who can beat the best Aussie senior sprinters (not that they're that good) on the flat. This...
