Nikola Jokic 2021,2022 & 2024 NBA MVP

I want to take a moment to recognize the great season that Nikola Jokic has just completed. The 3 time MVP might have had his best statistical season at the age of 31. He's also now averaged a triple double for the 2nd straight (likely) non-MVP year. He's has passed Oscar Robertson in this category and now only trails Russell Westbrook who has done it 4 times.

Here's Jokic's career stats. I've highlighted in yellow his 3 MVPs seasons to compare to the season he's just had. You can see in green where he's exceeded these seasons, in red where he underperformed them and in grey where he was basically on par. You can see why I would argue this one was his best!

This all leads to the next conversation. Why isn't Jokic being talked about for MVP this year? The Nuggets finished with the 3rd best record in the West and 6th best overall. It is also obvious when watching Denver, that they don't have any other legitimate star players. Some very good ones, yes, but I'm not sure this is even a playoff team if The Joker were to miss an entire season. My opinion on the NBA MVP Award is that after the 23-24 season, the PTB in the league and media basically put the talking point out that Jokic couldn't win it again. There were countless articles written by jealous blacks and pushed by the like of Stephen A Smiff on ESPN arguing for "anyone but Jokic" for the voting. As you can see by the stats and team success, that Nikola could and should be a 5 time MVP winner but instead SGA will "steal" another one this year. I think the only way that Nikola hoists another trophy is averaging another triple double and finish ahead of OKC (SGA), SA (Wemby) and LAL (Doncic)*.

*Of course I wouldn't mind Luka winning the MVP and should be considered over the overrated SGA, who is a great scorer but little else.
