Indianapolis Colts General Thread

Sports (((media))) rule: You are only allowed to defend a white player if you place the blame on another white player.

Could end up being a very good landing spot for Jones, especially with Indy's quality offensive line. Could be great for Alec Pierce as well:

Colts agreed to terms with QB Daniel Jones, formerly of the Vikings, on a one-year contract. The Vikings reportedly made a run at keeping Jones for 2025 but the allure of a starting job in Indy lured Jones to the Colts. He’ll compete with Antony Richardson for Week 1 starting duties as Richardson undergoes biometrics training this offseason designed to clean up his terribly inaccurate passing and mechanically unsound throwing motion.

The Colts have utilized a tight end by committee of forgettable and worse Blacks for years now. Maybe they'll take Warren in the draft, as some mocks have them doing. Daniel Jones throwing to Alec Pierce and Warren along with their excellent o-line would be a huge upgrade for the Colts IRL and as a team to root for.

Small tidbit of good news. And Richardson is "rehabbing" again, wasn't he supposed to be a super-human athlete? Turned out instead to be injury prone in addition to being perhaps the least accurate QB in league history.

Colts beat writer Joel A. Erickson reports “Michael Pittman has worked out with Daniel Jones” this offseason. According to Erickson, Jones and Pittman have been working out together ever since the Colts signed Jones in March, adding that Anthony Richardson has been in Florida rehabbing. It’s a minor detail, but one that’s worth keeping in mind as Jones prepares to compete with Richardson for the Colts’ QB1 job this summer. Jones signed a one-year, $14 million deal this offseason and will undoubtedly get a chance to start at some point. Building early chemistry with the Colts’ WR1 could go give him an inside edge on the competition once things ramp up.

The Colts expect to feature an all-white offensive line, including two T-Rexes at the tackle position. Braden Smith, the RT, has 32 1/4 inch arms, while LT Bernhard Raimann notably matches recent Patriots selection Will Campbell at 32 7/8 inches. Of course, perennial All-pro Quentin Nelson, whose 33 3/4 inch arms are ironically quite long for a Guard, will continue to hold down the LG spot.

Along with Alec Pierce, Daniel Jones, and 1st round selection Tyler Warren, this could be an interesting offense to watch. I'm not very high on DJ myself, but here's to hoping.

I am also am a bit skeptical of Daniel Jones but if all goes well and he gets some time under his belt not running for his life he might turn out to be a top notch QB(as long as he utilizes Peirce)

The laughably dubbed generational athlete is injured yet again, great news for Daniel Jones:

Colts coach Shane Steichen said Anthony Richardson suffered a shoulder injury and will not participate in minicamp next week. Richardson aggravated the AC joint in his throwing shoulder, which he had surgery on in 2023. Per Steichen, he won’t undergo surgery at this time. Steichen said he expects Richardson back “at some point” in training camp. It’s a nightmare scenario for the young passer. On top of the obvious risk that the injury becomes a long-term issue, Richardson missing crucial reps in the offseason will put him behind the eight ball to win the starting job. All signs have pointed to his competition with Daniel Jones being a legitimate one and now the latter will get more time to win over the coaches. Jones has to be considered the favorite to start Week 1 at this point, making Richardson undraftable in most fantasy formats.

At first I couldn’t believe this was a real stat but this “generational talent” has a grand total of 391 completions since 2020!- 215 at Florida and 176 with the colts. Joe Burrow last year alone had over 400 completions. Talk about black privilege

From Weenieworld:

The Athletic’s James Boyd believes Daniel Jones “has already taken a significant lead” in the Colts’ QB competition. Jones and Anthony Richardson are supposed to compete for the QB1 job in camp. While Richardson recently said he expects to be ready to go by camp, an offseason shoulder surgery has slowed his progress for the upcoming season, and opened the door for Jones to work almost exclusively with the first team offense. Jones has struggled to look like the player who was taken No. 6 overall by the Giants in 2019, but Richardson’s underwhelming performance in 2024 (1,813-8-12) that was headlined by a 47.7 completion percentage was far worse than any single season of Jones’ six-year career. The Colts will string this competition along for as long as they can — assuming Richardson is healthy enough to play in camp — but Richardson is well behind Jones at this point.

Interesting stat here…

QBs since '06 to have 250+ dropbacks & complete less than 50% of passes;

2009 - JaMarcus Russell (47.8%)
2011 - Tim Tebow (48.2%)
2024 - Anthony Richardson (47.7%)

NFL passes thrown after those seasons;
Russell - 0
Tebow - 8
Richardson- ?

The hype machine is once again rallying behind Anthony Richardson and against Daniel Jones:

From Weenieworld: The Athletic’s Zak Keefer believes Anthony Richardson “was sharper during the team’s first two padded practices” than Daniel Jones. Keefer added that Richardson showed off “some improved accuracy.” When it was reported that Richardson would miss some time in the offseason with his lingering shoulder injury, it looked all but certain that Jones would run away with the starting job. Richardson wound up fully cleared for the start of camp and, as Keefer notes, both quarterbacks had sloppy starts. Richardson has since turned things around, closing the gap between himself and Jones entirely. It’s anyone’s guess as to which quarterback will take the first snap this year, but things are trending toward Richardson at the moment. Despite his passing woes, Richardson remains a fantasy QB1 when he starts because of his elite rushing ceiling.

And apparently the Colts are pursuing an enduring love affair with their thus far colossal bust:

Media backs upsider. Shocker. The power of the hive mindset

Comical. You can’t teach accuracy and accuracy does not improve in the NFL are two sayings I have heard time and again over the years.

Ballard obviously made a huge blunder when drafting Richardson but wants to save face.

Like I've said before, this is the Lamar Jackson effect. Somehow his throwing motion and accuracy were fixed and he's arguably one of the best QB's in the league. Everyone is looking for "Lamar 2.0", and being black is a prerequisite.

Amazing NFL has zero interest in finding next DeJean or McCaffrey!

Positive news regarding Riley Leonard's camp performance:

The Colts "braintrust" is obviously going to do everything they can to make sure Richardson wins the starting job but it's great to hear both Jones and Leonard are having good training camps.
Well yeah. They look at both Leonard and Jones as relative mediocrities. The only one with "hall of fame" Upside is the supaman.
