Pittsburgh Steelers General Thread

Will Howard looks to be the complete package at QB to me -- tall, very fast, accurate, unafraid to go for the big play. Almost but not quite Matt Jones like in his size-running ability combo, but of course his running ability was considerably downplayed. Leads his team to the national championship and gets little but disrespect from the same suspects who now know it's mandatory to have at least one Black QB at the top of the draft every year, while several of this year's White QBs were drafted dramatically lower than where they should have been.

Would love to see Howard succeed A-Rod in a year or two. I like Mason Rudolph but he seems to be perennially screwed by the NFL, mainly by Mike Tomlin. Howard has talent to spare.

I daresay if Howard was the magical color he'd have been taken early, who can doubt that.

Last year the Steelers had one of the worst QB rooms in football. This year they are arguably among the best.

Rodgers was statistically good last year with a poorly coached and overall lackluster Jets team. If he holds up, he should be good within the Steelers structure. Rudolph, with this team, is a top backup if something goes wrong. Howard is the upside QB of the future who steps in next year or the season after. What’s not to like?

I'd be surprised if the Steelers trade Watt. T.J. had this same kind of "hold-in" before signing his last contract. The team has made some big-time moves this post-season for once in an attempt to become relevant again besides finishing 9-8 to keep Tomlin's meaningless "never had a losing season" streak going as it's going on nine years now since they won a playoff game, so they need Watt. The difference in their win-loss record with and without Watt is startling. He makes as much of an impact on a game as any defensive player in the league.

I noticed when the Steelers traded for TE Jonnu Smith the other day, that every analysis and report I read had Smith leapfrogging over Pat Freiermuth as the number one tight end. Smith finally had a good year last year, but it was his eighth NFL season after being a third round pick by the Titans, while Freiermuth while not a superstar has been a very good tight end from the get-go and has had a better career than Smith. But "athleticism" and "upside" and all, with the hive mind always promoting a Black tight end over a White one even though the White one usually prevails sooner or later.

There was a lot of chatter on the local sports radio programs yesterday about Watt and the possibility that the Chiefs might go after him. Talk about trading 1 or 2 first-round picks along with WR Rashee Rice were most prevalent. Personally I think that would be terrific. TJ starting opposite George Karlaftis with Chris Jones (black, but still good) in the middle would be potent, and fun to watch.
