I've heard a lot of noise today about comments Brent Musberger made concerning Alabama QB AJ McCarron's girlfriend Katherine Webb during the big game on Monday. I happened to be watching when he made his remarks and thought nothing of it other then, well it's nice the Nat'l Championship winning QB is dating Miss Alabama.

Apparently Musberger commited the unforgivable sin of publicly supporting heterosexuality because ESPN felt compelled to issue an apology for his remarks. I heard his comments again and there was nothing inappropriate, he didn't refer to her sexually in anyway only calling her beautiful, there were some people upset he inferred that kids should think about being QB's if they want to get a pretty girl like Katherine Webb. He also went on a bit too long I thought in a second hearing of the remarks but who could blame him, he had a colossal blow out on his hands and needed to kill time.

Such a ruckous was caused that Katherine Webb was put on Good Morning America to discuss this controversy and she said that she felt Musberger had done nothing wrong.
Far be it from me to support a top caste clown like Musberger, although in fairness to him he is over the top with praise for anyone black or White, but what is the reasoning behind an ESPN apology.

Who was insulted and who is being apologized to? I am going to assume that this was only ESPN trying to milk a non incident for some additional publicity and having the twin internet attractions of a winning QB and a beauty queen giving the story some legs.

I guess it's okay for the network to make a big deal about mixed race couples and rub everyone's face in it but a good looking White guy and gal?? That has to be stopped lest some kids get the idea that White people hooking up is a good thing.

I was going to post something related to this, glad you did. Just twenty years ago, and especially thirty years ago, this would've been a complete non-issue. I'm no fan of Musberger (although, in relation to many of his other colleagues, he seems to be much less harmful from a Caste perpspective (he was praising McCarron all night long, even warning Johnny Manziel they he might have some competition next year for the Heisman.))

Anyway, he, a man of the West, especially an old White man of the West, is an embodiment and reminder of the oppressive and evil White male patriarchy of old. How dare he have an opinion of who is beautiful in CM Amerika in 2013! I bet he was even guilty of enjoying three martini lunches thirty years ago. Doesn't he know that this is a new Amerika now? He obviously discriminated against gay males with his overt display of heterosexual longings, he obviously discriminated against non-White females by implying that this was the archetypal woman (White) that QBs like McCarron (White) longed for, and he discriminated against lesbian bull-dykes and other assorted feminists as well because he doesn't understand that "beauty" is just another social construct and that, perhaps, they too (and not just the implied White male QBs) may want to win the affections of a woman like this. In essence, in 2013 Amerika, he forgot that his role now is just to play the part of a White asexual chump that simply lavishes praise on overrated affletes and otherwise just shuts the hell up and does what he's told.

This subject could just as easily have been put in the "Ubiquitous Man Hating" thread as well, especially when considering his "behavior" to that of Kathy Griffin on New Year's Eve with Anderson Cooper.

They're apologizing to all the ugly feminists for highlighting what they can never be.

Excellent points all.

As for me, I think ESPN should apologize to red-blooded men everywhere for their apology.

/chuckle/

yeah, Musberger pointed out a beautiful woman in the crowd, who was relevant to a player on the field.. it was harmless, & well-intentioned.
The media is filled with vapid scum, always 'reporting' on manufactured controversies.. :bored:

Very good post, exactly the point I was making. Nice to know there are like minds out there. When I listen to the empty responses from media talking heads and the PC banter of others around me it is nice to know there are some others who "understand".

One possible compliment to Musberger--that I heard from a local sports radio jockey is that the apology had to come from ESPN, because at 73 years of age Musberger doesn't give a rats ass and if they had asked him to apologize he would have told them to shove it. I don't know if that's true but it is plausible.

When is BSPN going to make Merrill HOG and Jeworski apologize for their outright bigoted attacks on Tebow?

I heard it at the time too and thought he went on a bit too long, but so what? I agree with everyone else's sentiments. His age was used against him, but the average man lives well into his 70s, good on him for still appreciating young beauty. That's another factor, this man-hating society despises older men-younger women couples but glorifies so-called "cougars." If Musberger had been swooning over some athlete's same-sex "partner" (or perhaps "Herbie"), he could have gone on for several minutes and there would have been no negative repercussions.

When I listened to Brent he sounded a little more excited than he should have. Brent, you're 73, not 13. ESPN needed someone there to say down boy, down. Not way over the top, but enough.

Yeah, Brent did give off a little vicarious enthusiasm. But so what? We were all thinking it!

But as another poster hinted, if he had expressed even more outright excitedness over an interracial pairing, ESPN and media critics would still be heaping praise upon his name.

My friends and I were joking about Musburger being "an old horn dog" at the time, but primarily for the attention toward A.J. McCarron's mother, Dee Dee. She is a 40-something hottie. Brent must have seen the pics of her that are posted on various websites.
