A bit of a white speed revival in 2010, as two of the top three base-stealers in the majors are white: Brett Gardner sits one back of the major-league lead with 17, while veteran Scott Podsednik is in third with 14

The Mets are floundering again. How much longer do Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel keep their jobs?

Minaya belongs in the same pathetic GM class with Isaiah Thomas and Matt Millen.

Manuel is another poster boy of Bud Selig's to keep more minority managers in the game.

Casey "Chrome Dome" McGehee -- still facing "skeptics" and self-loathers:

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/players/playerpage/489788/casey-mcgehee

"But, but... he isn't a Miguel or Jose or Juan. He also spent much time in the minors so he must be no good. Elvis Andrus is superior and has such nubile skin."

People seem be liking his magnificent production now, but the fantasy "analysis" is back-handed once again:

McGehee is on a ridiculous pace right now. Consider the 27-year-old breakout a must-start in all leagues through thick and thin right now. We don't think he is this good, but you cannot argue with the results and might as well take advantage of them.
(Updated 05/18/2010).

Yes.. he can't possibly possess "talent"...

Journeyman Brooks Conrad with the game-winning grand slam for the Braves today.

Thank God it wasn't Jason Heyward or it would be shown a million times on TV for the next week.

Here is an article about recent NY Yankee inf/of call-up Kevin Russo.

97381189.jpg.21698_display_image.jpg

An interesting excerpt:
"He is an unusually versatile athlete. As a standout running back at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colo., Mr. Russo rushed for 2,416 yards as a senior and led his team to a state title. He was named one of two all-state running backs by the Rocky Mountain News.

The other selection? LenDale White, who went on to star at the University of Southern California and now plays for the Seattle Seahawks."

Make of this what you will gentlemen.

Some roid rage perhaps from "good guy" Albert Pujols?

Albert Pujols Denies Flap With La Russa

Ballplayers say the funniest things sometimes.

Take Albert Pujols.

With the Cardinals in San Diego on Tuesday, I asked Pujols about the flap between him and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa last Friday in St. Louis.

I figured Pujols would chalk it up to the competitive spirit of both men.

Pujols, though, replied that nothing happened between him and La Russa.

I waited for the punch line.

But Pujols didn't give me one.

"Ask the guy that wrote it because I don't know where he's creating all of that story," Pujols said. "I never crossed any words with Tony, so I don't know what the heck the paper is writing about. That's the way it is."

The story was written by Joe Strauss, a veteran, respected baseball writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Here is the heart of it:

First baseman Albert Pujols and manager Tony La Russa on Saturday played down a heated exchange between the two after Pujols was left standing at the plate Friday on right fielder Ryan Ludwick's unsuccessful steal attempt.

The three-time NL Most Valuable Player became visibly irritated when, with the Cardinals leading the Los Angeles Angels by four runs, Ludwick became the eighth inning's final out. Pujols flipped his bat and helmet as he returned to the dugout then smacked two trays of gum from a bench against the Cardinals dugout wall.

La Russa reprimanded Pujols, saying, "That's enough."

Pujols responded and, according to eyewitnesses, the exchange escalated with La Russa telling Pujols at one point, "I (expletive) know how to manage."

Later, Strauss quoted La Russa saying of Pujols: "Part of his greatness is that he cares. It's why he ends up doing well and whatever needs fixing he fixes."

In the same report, Pujols didn't dispute that the incident happened but considered it insignificant. "I was hitting and we got thrown out stealing. I wanted to hit. That's all it was," he told the Post-Dispatch.

Pujols himself is an aggressive baserunner.

So I asked him if he sometimes find it distracting when a teammate runs while he's batting.

"I don't have any distractions about anything, man," he said. "We need to flip that page because I don't want to talk about it. OK?"

Pujols answered several other questions. Then the Cardinals (26-19) opened a three-game series against the Padres (26-18).

Could Be. What a lack of class and professionalism...If ludwick thinks he has a chance to pad the lead, increase his chances ofscoring...it's his call, not Pujols'. A four run lead is not insurmountable.Edited by: Solomon Kane

Dontrelle Willis walked 7 in 3 1/3 innings today. This was his 22nd game in the third year of a 3yr/$29 million contract.

Only 7 more appearances to go and he'll have raked in a cool $1 million per appearance.

And 2 wins so far in a Tigers' uniform. They must be happy with their investment.

The guys a joke. They keep running him out there desperately trying to get some of their investment back but it's useless. If this guy was white he would be selling insurance by now. I think he's getting to the end of the line though. I expect they will release him soon.

My prediction comes true. Tigers have cut ties with Willis. Final line, $29 million/ 2 wins. Truly pathetic, if a white pitcher had done this he would be rated one of histories greatest busts. It was criminal how the Tigers stuck with this no talent guy and made excuse after excuse for him. Even now the local media is saying stuff like "Willis should try to make it as an outfielder" because since he's black he's just gotta be good at SOMETHING, I guess.

Reds OF Jay Bruce and Drew Stubbs are getting hot at the plate and helping the Reds to the top of the NL Central.

Joe Morgan must dread the night he has to announce a Reds game for ESPN and actually compliment them on their improving play and athleticism.

Speaking about Albert Pujols and the likelihood he's using PEDs, I've seen 40 y/o Reds relief pitcher Arthur Rhodes several times this season and his performance the last 3 seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery really has me wondering if he isn't using some goodies to extend his career.

The Giants have just called up Buster Posey, their catcher of the future. He had back to back three hit games. Since Jeff Kent, I can't recall a white Giant position player who has been one of their dominant hitters. Buster could be that man. He was doing great in Triple A and everyone on the flagship station of the Giants has been clamoring for him to be called up. right now he might be playing both first base and catcher.

Buster Posey should be real good for many years to come.

Justin Smoak of the Rangers is up from the '08 draft as well and should be a keeper.

I should also add Ike Davis of the Mets as another hitter from the '08 draft to keep an eye on. But, if he stays under the incompetent tutelage of Jerry Manuel very long, it will probably ruin his career.

Chipper Jones had a HR yesterday, but it looks like he won't be healthy enough for his last year or two to make a run at 500 HRs.

Several other white players like Scott Rolen, Troy Glaus, Todd Helton and Paul Konerko look like they will finish their careers somewhere between 350-450 HRs.

If we have realistic hopes of another white player making the 500 HR club this decade, it will have to be Adam Dunn.

And it sure would be nice for Jim Thome to get to 600 career HRs. He would be more deserving of such a milestone than frauds like A-Roid and Manny Ramirez.Edited by: Van_Slyke_CF

Speaking of the Mets a bit ago, it seems like they are edging closer to admitting another one of Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel's many blunders-this one being the huge contract they gave to Oliver Perez.

He's only halfway through a 3-year/$36 million contract, but the team may have to cut ties with him because he doesn't want to go where he belongs-the minors-to work on his pathetic pitching.

What is it with teams like the Tigers(Dontrelle Willis) and the Mets with Perez giving huge contracts to these clowns? The GMs didn't watch their games and look at the numbers of the past few years before coming up with deals many millions more than any other team would even consider offering?

That both Minaya and Manuel still have their jobs shows the Bud Selig effect on the hiring and retention of minority managers and front office types.

Corey Hart of the Brewers seems to be much better this year. He kind of reminds me of Jayson Werth, and he all too often is ignored at the expense of fat ass Fielder and Ryan Braun.

At 28, Hart is on a pace for a career year with 14 HRs and 35 RBIs, and is an athletic OF.

I'd thought the addition of Jim Edmonds and the retention of Craig Counsell would help the Brewers back to winning ways, but it looks like they are going to be a sub .500 team again.

If their FO is smart, they will unload lardass Fielder while they can still get some good prospects in return, instead of wasting the $100 million or more he plans to ask for in FA.

Ike Davis is a member of the Tribe, but I suppose I'd rather see him than another Mets' Latino...

Paul Konerko blasted 2 HRs today, increasing his total to 16. Phil Hughes gets his 7th win.

Ken Griffey Jr. retires, and this puts Mike Sweeney as main DH for now for Seattle. Mariners now have 4 white starters including Sweeney.

Ken Griffey put up some great numbers in his 20s.

It's a shame he didn't respect the game enough to work hard and stay in shape through most of his 30s.

And what were the Mariners thinking when they brought him back in '09, and especially this season?

They were crazy if they thought that Griffey and Milton Bradley were going to help them to a winning record, let alone the postseason.

Good-bye, Ken Griffey Jr.

Due to Morales' ridiculous injury, the Angels actually reached an amazing total of four whites in the lineup today, with Napoli catching Quinlan (who was called up due to Morales' injury) at first, Kevin Frandsen at third and Willits in left field. Right now, it seems the Cubs are exhibit A of what team to root against, with only one white starter.

Yep, look at their lineup, look at their payroll, and look where they are in the standings.

Serves 'em right.
