2025 Buffalo Bills

Bill Burr fired!

This cracked me up...

Is it BB to the rescue?

All jokes aside I heard there was a power struggle and Beane was the last man standing. I don't know who is out there that is proven winner. I heard one caller to local Buffalo radio bring up Tomlin and the host said I hope not as he stated something to the affect Tomlin has never seen a punting situation he wasn't fond of...

Beane's track record isn't great. He's draft some key pieces but also missed on several players and the defensive line has been an issue.

The below is from CHATGPT. My comments in red. Got lazy but you can see he has a pretty big miss rate and let some pieces leave that could have helped the Bills. I do find it funny how the caste system non-sense is programmed into CHATGPT.

2018 — Class That Changed the Franchise

Key Picks

  • 1st Rd: QB Josh Allen (7) — Franchise QB, MVP candidate, cornerstone of the rebuild
  • 1st Rd: LB Tremaine Edmunds (16) — Immediate starter and key defensive player - left via FA
  • 3rd Rd: DT Harrison Phillips - left via FA
  • 4th Rd: CB Taron Johnson — long-term contributor
  • 5th Rd: Siran Neal, G Wyatt Teller — Teller became a quality starter for the Browns. Beane traded him for a 5th and 6th round pick in 2020
  • Later: WR Ray-Ray McCloud, Austin Proehl

Summary: Beane’s first draft was a home run, giving the Bills a franchise quarterback in Allen and building foundational pieces on defense and along the line. This class consistently ranks as his best.

2019 — Mixed Returns

Key Picks

  • 1st Rd: DT Ed Oliver — solid but not superstar - overrated, oft injured
  • 2nd Rd: OT Cody Ford — generally considered a bust
  • 3rd Rd: RB Devin Singletary — meaningful contributor
  • 3rd Rd: TE Dawson Knox — quality starter
  • Others: LB Vosean Joseph, S Jaquan Johnson, DE Darryl Johnson, TE Tommy Sweeney

Summary: Yielded productive mid-round contributors (Knox, Singletary), but no game-changing superstars besides Oliver. Often ranked near the bottom of Beane’s classes.

2020 — Solid Middle-Round Value

Key Picks

  • 2nd Rd: DE A.J. Epenesa
  • 3rd Rd: RB Zack Moss
  • 4th Rd: WR Gabe Davis — key receiver on big plays
  • 5th: QB Jake Fromm
  • 6th Rd: K Tyler Bass — reliable kicker
  • 6th Rd: WR Isaiah Hodgins
  • 7th Rd: CB Dane Jackson

Summary: No huge stars, but Davis and Bass became important parts of the roster, and Jackson earned a spot. A class with good role players and roster depth.

2021 — Defensive Talent and Risers

Key Picks

  • 1st Rd: DE Greg Rousseau — impactful pass rusher
  • 2nd Rd: DE Boogie Basham — rotation piece
  • 3rd Rd: OL Spencer Brown
  • 6th Rd: S Damar Hamlin — carved starter role post-injury
  • Others: LB Marquez Stevenson, CB Rachad Wildgoose, OL Jack Anderson

Summary: Mixed bag — Rousseau is the standout, while others have been role players. Hamlin’s story (cardiac arrest, return, extension) also defines the class.

2022 — Strong Overall Class (with one big miss)

Key Picks

  • 1st Rd: CB Kaiir Elam — widely seen as a bust relative to expectations
  • 2nd Rd: RB James Cook — major offensive contributor
  • 3rd Rd: LB Terrel Bernard — key starter
  • 5th: WR Khalil Shakir — breakout as a top target
  • 6th: P Matt Araiza, CB Christian Benford — Benford outperforming Elam
  • 7th: LB Baylon Spector

Summary: A very good group aside from the Elam pick — Cook, Shakir, and Bernard have been core contributors, and late-round gems like Benford have outperformed expectations.

2023 — Good Skill Talent and Unique Picks

Key Picks

  • 1st Rd: TE Dalton Kincaid — strong production and record rookie season
  • 2nd Rd: OL O’Cyrus Torrence
  • 3rd Rd: LB Dorian Williams
  • 5th Rd: WR Justin Shorter
  • Others: Nick Broeker, Alex Austin

Summary: Kincaid’s breakout as a dynamic tight end stands out. Overall, this class gave the Bills meaningful offensive pieces, though opinions on the depth vary.

2024 — Mixed Early Results

Key Picks

  • 2nd Rd: WR Keon Coleman — high hopes, mixed production to date
  • 2nd Rd: S Cole Bishop
  • 3rd Rd: DT DeWayne Carter
  • Day 3: Several developmental players (RB Ray Davis, OL Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, LB Edefuan Ulofoshio, DE Javon Solomon, OT Tylan Grable, CB Daequan Hardy, OT Travis Clayton)

Summary: Early returns are uneven. Coleman has struggled relative to his draft slot, but there’s potential depth coming on both sides of the ball.

2025 — Defense-Heavy Draft

Key Picks

  • 1st Rd: CB Maxwell Hairston (30) — first pick, high-ceiling defender
  • 2nd Rd: DT T.J. Sanders
  • 3rd Rd: DE Landon Jackson
  • 4th Rd: DT Deone Walker
  • 5th Rd: S Jordan Hancock
  • 5th Rd: TE Jackson Hawes
  • 6th Rd: CB Dorian Strong
  • 6th Rd: OL Chase Lundt
  • 7th Rd: WR Kaden Prather

Sounds like it was indeed a power struggle with Beane also becoming president of the Bills along with GM.

Guess next year we will know if it was Beane or McDermott that was the problem. I still think they share the blame but Beane pulled a power move and somehow became president of the Bills in the process.
