Since 2005 Nebraska has started 11,13,11,12,11,13,14,13,8,10,11,11,9,8,9, 10, 13, 11, 13, and 8 whites. 2025 will decrease to an all-time low of 6. This number includes Dylan Raiola, a half poly QB, as per last year’s write up.
Matt Rhule had a quote a few months ago mentioning that he is looking for players that will help him beat Ohio State. Translation: more super athletes from Florida are needed compared to overlooked gems from the Midwest and mountain states. This statement combined with the 105 man roster limit (reduces walk-on opportunities) will definitely not help our guys get on the field here. With that said, things aren’t all bad considering Nebraska will welcome 6 white defender freshmen as part of their incoming recruiting class (including two safeties). Even better, on the offensive side of the ball a white WR and RB are coming in as freshman. Freshman RB Conor Booth rushed for over 2900 yards and scoring 50 touchdowns as a senior last year. As far as I can tell, these players look to be on scholarship.
I am really not sure how to feel about this team as it is the lowest number of starters ever; however, lots of whites are coming in on the defensive side of the ball even if it does not show up in the current depth. We just need to hope our guys can rise up the depth chart over the next few seasons.
Starters
LG Henry Lutovsky
RG Rocco Spindler
RT Teddy Prochazka
TE Luke Lindenmeyer
QB Dylan Raiola *
DT Riley Van Poppel
Depth
OL Gunnar Gottula
OL Sam Sledge
OL Turner Corcoran
OL Tyler Knaak
TE Heinrich Haarberg (looks like he was converted from QB)
QB Jalyn Gramstad
LB Jacob Bower
