Zavec vs Berto

Here is a HBO fight that is slipping under the radar this weekend. I have watched several of Zavec's fights on YouTube and he looks very capable in the ring. Good power, footwork and defense. He definitely has a good shot in beating HBO house negro Berto.

I think Ortiz softened up Berto or at least made him apprehensive about getting nailed. If Zavec can hurt Berto early and step on the gas the entire the fight, I think he wins by a UD or late round KO.

HBO has reservations about Berto, and now brings in a live European Dog to confirm its beliefs. HBO is not dumb however, it will dangle Zavec's Welterweight Belt in front of him to get a good scrap on national television.


Zavec has a major American opportunity in front of him. He just has to seize it! Go Zavec!!!

He is going to have to beat Berto pillar to post to get the decision, like Chavez jr Berto is a pet of HBO upper management. I suspect this fight will be close and Berto will "earn" a tight decision.

Thanks for the heads-up Westside. I might have missed this one. I didn't realize Zavec is the one defending a title in this fight. Very interesting match-up and should be a good fight.

There's an interview with Andre Berto's manager Al Heymon in the current issue of The Ring magazine.

Heymon laughed and emphatically said "no" when he was asked if he would ever manage a white boxer.

Heymon said he expects HBO's interim boss Kery Davis will pay $6 million to Paul Williams for his next fight.

Unbeaten IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (16-0-1, 11 KOs) dropped Aaron Pryor, Jr. (16-4, 11 KOs) in round three and went on to defend his belt by scores of 117-111 on all cards.

Doctor went to Zaveck's corner, and the fight was stopped because of a cut over Zavec's eye.

The first three rounds were close. Dejan adjusted to Berto and began to take control in round four. But the tiring negro landed some deliberate headbutts in round five.

It should have gone to the cards, but the referee somehow missed those blatently deliberately headbutts.

I feel very bad for the courageous ring warrior Zavec, he deserves better.

Just saw the replay. Both came to wage war. At the end of the 5th I had it even, maybe Berto up 1 round, but it was clear Zavec was turning the tide and Berto was getting tired. He tried to mask it by grabbing and hoping up and down. I did not see any head butting by Berto on purpose. I believe the cut was by a punch.

Too bad the cut happened. Cause Zavec was on his way, I believe in stopping Berto around the 8th or 9th there after. Zavec gave an excellent account of himself. Too bad the cut happen and "bailed out" Berto to live another day on a premium HBO date.

Zavec and Berto for some reason had alot of respect for each other? Zavec will be back. He fought well, just got caught with a punch that cut his eye, Ala Vitali Klitsisko. Look forward to see him again. Even Roy Jones believes the fighters coming here from Europe to fight should be feared as he stated last night .

I suspected Berto butted him and/or rubbed his head into his face, but I didn't catch it when I was watching on the small computer screen. The fight should be awarded to Zavek or at least declared no contest. Europeans need to start standing up when the boxing gangsters pull their bull****.

Nice little twist Berto uses when he butts. Clearly meant to break skin, just like a twist at the end of a punch. But the biggest butt is that ref. Any competent manager doesn't allow that guy to ever be in the ring with his fighter.
