I watched a bunch of Youtube videos of this 22 year old Russian (Chechen, if anybody gives a sh*t, I don't) Light-Middleweight. He's an excellent puncher, power in both hands, good body puncher, good size for his division (5'10 1/2",) doesn't move his feet a lot defensively, but keeps his hands up and blocks a lot of punches. I would like to see him step back and move laterally more (like Kessler,) and move his head a bit more. If he doesn't, he may get hit too much by a quick fighter like Spinks. He's only 22 so he has plenty of time to improve in this area. But I was very impressed with his punching prowess. Hopefully he'll be fighting on the Klitschko/ Brewster card for a European belt.

If you have an hour of free time, check out his fight with Marco Antonio Rubio. It's his most recent fight, against the best competition he's faced so far. Rubio lost a split decision to Kassim Ouma, which means that one judge thought he beat Ouma. Not that he's a great fighter by any means, but certainly a great test for a young fighter in his 15th fight. Rubio actually scored a flash knockdown in the 1st round, but Baysangurov was in control of the fight from the 3rd round on. He also showed good stamina, landing big punches late in the fight.

Here are the videos of the Baysangurov/ Rubio fight:

This is a fun fight, if anybody has the time to watch it- like me.

It was a very close fight with an extremely close decision. I thought his opponent won the first half of the fight, and Zaur won the second half. He got hit a lot in the first half. Unfortunately, I was right about his defense. He does not move his feet or head at all, and Bayram landed nearly at will early on. He tries to block punches, and it worked in the past, but not this time.

He was also deducted at least one point, and perhaps a point in the round before (it was hard to tell if the ref was warning him or deducting a point.) It may have been a borderline gift decision given the deduction(s,) but he was strong down the stretch.

But I still love his punching, and he's very young. Plenty of time to shore up that defense. He really, really needs to. It would be a shame to see all that offensive talent go to waste on a guy who cannot move out of the friggin' way! He already has the EBU light-middleweight title at 22 years old, and although Bayram hasn't beaten anyone of note, he's only lost to Baysangurov, Dzinziruk, and a meaningless early loss in his career. He's no slouch. So hopefully Zaur will continue to improve and fight for a major belt in the next 1.5-2 years.

I have been wanting to watch Baysangurov perform for the longest time. Now, at 6:30 Sydney time I will be tuning in to see just that. In many ways I am looking forward more to the Baysangurov fight than I am the Klitschko. By saying that, I truly believe that Klitschko is going to completely dismantle Rahman. Whereas with Baysangurov, it is a matter of me being anxious to see how Euro fighter on the world stage.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Russian dude looked like absolute garbage. I do not want to sound too disrespectful. However that guy sucks. No footwork, no snap to his punches, no defense, no nothing really that would indicate that he deserves to even be considered a contender. I figure he was probably fed a steady diet of soft comp until now.

Baysangurov annihilates De Martinis!

From Fightnews.com

Russian junior middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (now 21-1 with 16 KOs) scored his second consecutive first-round blowout moments ago at Kiev's Palace of Sports. In the main event of the show, promoted by the K2 East promotional group, Baysangurov, 24, decked his Italian opponent Christian De Martinis (22-3, 10 KOs) once with a body-punch and once with a hard left hook to the head before knocking him down again after a thunderous right hand, which forced referee to stop the contest without a count. Baysangurov seized the vacant WBA Intercontinental title in the process. Next for Chechen native is August showdown against Contender II victor Grady Brewer.

There may be an internet stream for this fight here:

streams

Baysangurov's opponent Albert should make for a difficult fight, but the young Chechen should win.

Alexander Ustinov is fighting here as well, against journeyman Talgat Dosanov.

Nice performance by Zaurbek.

The referee put up with a lot of childish behavior from Albert. At one point Albert lost his head at a ringside fan, and went kind of "Oliver McCall" for awhile.

Scores were 119-109, 120-108, and 120-108.

Baysangurov-Konecny Presser

22312konecny001.jpg

Today in Kiev, Ukraine, a press conference was held to announce the March 10 clash between WBO light middleweight champion Zaurbek Baysangurov (26-1, 20 KOs) against Lukas Konecny (47-3, 22 KOs) at the Ice Palace “Terminal†in Brovari, Ukraine.

Lukas Konecny: Zaur Baysangurov is now the world champion and I’m ready to box with him. I’ve seen many of Baysangurov’s fights. I’ve seen his technique, this is a very good boxer and it will be difficult enough in the ring, but I hope to win.

Zaurbek Baysangurov: I’m happy about the fight against Konecny. I’ve been waiting a long time for him. The opponent I have is not bad, but in my career I’ve been in with more serious opponents than he has. But he’s the mandatory challenger so I’m going into the ring with him. I’ll try to show good boxing on March 10.

Alexander Krasyuk, K2 Promotion Ukraine: It will be the most exciting fight ever organized in the Ukraine. It will match the force, strength, courage and uncompromising style of the champion and the experience, technique, great motivation and unbridled desire to win of the challenger. Combined they have 73 wins in 77 fights, they have 29 title fights. This battle is between the two most powerful jr middleweight boxers in Europe, a fight between two champions and one of the most anticipated fights in Europe.

Ulf Steinforth, SES-Boxing: Zaurber and Lukas were European champions and I can say that this is one of the most interesting events in the boxing world for me this year. I am pleased that we are working with K2 Promotions and were able to promote a fight of this level in Ukraine.

Im a fan of Zaurbek and its great that he is current WBO Champion. Its also great to see a world championship bout between 2 skilled European fighters.

Ive also seen Lucas Konecny fight in the past and let me warn you, this guy can fight. He's a solid technical boxer, he's got a lot of experience, and he can knock you out to boot.

Most "mainstream" boxing fans will be quick to write off this fight as "Zaurbek VS Random Euro guy".

But in fairness Konecny is a VERY good fighter, he is also massively underrated.

To be quite frank I see this as a tossup fight which could go either way. Zaurbek maybe is faster and hits a bit harder, but his chin has been found wanting in the past.

Great fight and I could see either guy winning it.
