Is getting some good publicity, there was an article today in our local paper that he was asked autograph by his first name, and that he was getting good press out there in indy. He caught a 45 yard TD pass from jared lorenzen this week.

hey guess what? he was compared to wes welker in the paper....

DraftDaddy provided this link to an article saying that Giguere has a great chance at sticking on the Colts practice squad, despite having to make so many adjustments from the Canadian game. not the least of which, apparently, was the heat.

the article praises Sam's raw athletic ability, and he sounds very confident in his talent, saying that he measures up very well against the competition.

most of what he needs to do is improve on the technical side of the game, which is no surprise being such an inexperienced player.

also, i stumbled across Sam's website. it has some cool pictures and video. he definitely has some speed!

He will be kept on the practice squad. He was called this morning informing him of that. the info comes from rds.ca, quebec's sports network.

Colts Wide Receiver Sam Giguere Has Backup Plans in CFL

Colts.com is reporting that Colts receiver Sam Giguere was drafted eighth overall in the Canadian Football League draft. Giguere told Colts.com that he has the ability to play in the NFL.

Giguere has a tough task to overcome. He would have to beat out Taj Smith, Brett McDermott, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, and Roy Hall. Last season Giguere played with the Colts during the preseason, but he failed to make the final roster.

Were Giguere to fail to make the Colts roster in 2009, which is a likely possibility, he would sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Jim Caldwell told reporters during mini camp that Giguere has a chance to be the Colts slot receiver.

Sam Giguere is a phenomenal athlete, and i don't use that word lightly. he runs a 40 in the high 4.4s and has a vertical leap over 40 inches! i mean, my goodness!

secondly, the three black players mentioned in the above "report (Smith, Garcon, and Hall) are total turds.

Garcon played D-III football at Mount Union and wasn't even the best player on his team (that would be tailback Nate Kmic)... yet somehow, despite all the impressive White talent that team has produced over the years (includingfleet-footed cornerback Chris Kern) theonly decent black skill position guy who has played for the Purple Raiders is the onewho gets a shot in the NFL. and it's not like Garcon is a burner, either. weird, huh?

Roy Hall couldn't catch a butt cheek with either hand, even after three years of trying to figure it out with Peyton Manning throwing to him! he couldn't catch the ball at Ohio State, either, which continues to spark the question: why the hell was he even drafted?

Taj Smith is a mediocre talent from a losing program. he's not tall nor strong, not productivenor particularly fast. so what does he bring to the table, exactly?

i don't know much about McDermott other than he played at Holy Cross and was their best skill guy, so the jury is still out on him.

the player who i really likeamongst the young receivers wasn't even mentioned: John Matthews. Matthews has solid size at 6-0, 200-pounds, runs in the high 4.4s- low 4.5s, and has stamped his name all over the receiving record books at San Diego. hebroke allthe records as a junior, then re-broke them as a senior. this guy can play.

seriously, i wish i could write about these guys full time, because it's obvious that most of these so-called reporters have no desire to report facts.

Giguere finally makes team. Too bad it comes so late in the season. Maybe he'll get some looks for season ending game.

Giguere looked good in his NFL debut.

in an otherwise throw-away game for the Colts, the Canadian athlete showed his potential. he returned 5 kickoffs for an average of 24 yards, with a long of 36.

Good news! This guy is a freak athlete. He's got a cut physique and runs a 4.4 40 with a 40 inch vertical. Hopefully, the Canadian will impress enough to land a roster spot the whole season next year!

Glad to see he stuck in there and finally got a chance to get on the field! 120 yds with the ball isn't bad! Hope he has a great off-season and paves the way for more Candadian college players to make it to the NFL!

here's some compliments about Giguere coming from the IndyStar, the Colts' hometownnewspaper ...

Question: Have the Colts found a kick returner? It was only one game, but Sam Giguere looked like he was more explosive, even in these (blizzard) conditions, than Chad Simpson. He returned five kicks for an average of 24.4 yards, no small feat on the giant skating rink.

and today he had a brief feature article, as well: Colts Giguere makes impression. here are the relevant bits:

A season finale might seem a little late for an audition, but <B itxt="1">Sam Giguere[/B] got one Sunday. As the Indianapolis Coltsformulate their playoff roster, he gave them something to think about.
"(The roster) is something we'll evaluate this week in particular," coach <B itxt="1">Jim Caldwell[/B] said Monday, a day after the Colts closed the regular season with a 30-7 loss at Buffalo. "We'd like to get a real good sense of where he might fit, but he certainly made a favorable impression."

Giguere, a rookie wide receiver/kick returner/special teams player, isn't the only player the Colts are taking a hard look at. Caldwell said it's possible the team will carry two kickers during the playoffs: <B itxt="1">Adam Vinatieri[/B] and <B itxt="1">Matt Stover[/B].

Giguere caught no passes but cleanly handled five kickoffs and on a slick, snowy field and returned them an average of 24.4 yards, with a long of 36, during his first NFL game. He also played as a gunner on the punt team and in kick coverage.
"It was an opportunity to show what I can do," said Giguere, who broke his left leg during summer workouts and spent time on the physically unable to perform list and the practice squad before being activated last week.
"From a return standpoint, I think I did pretty well. The conditions weren't ideal, obviously, but I'm satisfied with that part of it. Hopefully, I'll get another shot at it and I can progress."
as an aside, it's a shame that this Quebecois Canadian speaks better English than any black player in the League.

Damn!! Just went on this kid's website and man is he ripped. He looks more like a bodybuilder than a wide receiver at 5-11 and 215lbs. I wasn't aware that he was timed as fast as 4.35 in the 40 and has a 40 inch vertical leap.

From Rotoworld: Colts waived RB/KR Chad Simpson. Though Mike Hart averaged just 2.7 yards per carry last season, the Colts were encouraged enough by his hard running down the stretch to part with Simpson. Former Canadian college star WR Sam Giguere is a candidate to take over kickoff returns.

Just saw an interview on TSN here in Canada.

The reporter asked Sam if he felt that he had been given a fair chance to show what he can do with the Colts, given that he is a French Canadian coming out of a small Canadian school. Sam replied "I think they just want the best team possible, so everybody gets a legitimate shot."

He also said he "never felt different" in the Colts camp than a highly touted American prospect would. He said he's been given the "best opportunity possible" and that he has been given lots of attention by the organization and was pleased by the fact that he was activated late last season.

Telling words about one of the least Caste teams in the NFL.
