This years championships were recently held in Azerbaijan and are the most prestigious international event in wrestling outside the Olympics.Medals are awarded in two disciplines,Greco Roman and Freestyle in seven weight classes from 55kg to 120.White athletes did allright with freestyle proving by far the most suscessful of the two disciplins.Europeans captured four of the seven golds awarded in the Greco format with two of the other three going to middle east/Asian country's and in the most disapointing result of the championship,a Black Cuban taking the 120kg title. This is the first time i can ever recall a Black athlete placing first in the super heavy category of a top international wrestling event. The Russian he defeated in the final held a 3-o winning record against him coming in,but come up short for some reason. The American rep was also Black, managing to take home a Bronze.White athletes took home six of the seven golds in freestyle with all the golds awarded to Russians.Thats six of seven golds in freestyle for the Russians and seven golds out of 14 given out across both disciplines. With them set to dominate, especially the upper weight classes of the upcoming world amateur boxing championships,on top of this theirs little doubt they produce by far the world's best combat athletes. An amazing performance by them.Overall,10 of fourteen championships were awarded to Europeans.
