Take a look back in time and see why we are conservatives that want to preserve the good of us for future generations. Nationalism was the primary goal but it was coupled to honor. Fairness in sport conveys the same meaning of fairness between nations competing economically. The Axis nations wanted merely to trade outside the City of London banking order. Competing with honor begets great dignity on all participants. Back then the most a medalist hoped for was something unique and special for their life's resume. A medalist would go home and enjoy the praise of winning one for one's country and celebrity dinner in one's home town including a write-up in the newspapers.
