why are whites starting to domnate boxing?

Why is this?. Obviously perhaps its down to the fact that there is no caste system like in US sports, plus its more world wide.



Perhaps its because of the phenoms that come from the eastern block now that communism has declined.

Or perhapsit was because of a fews good white fighters in recent history(wlad and vitali/calzaghe, hatton, adamek) have made white's realise that this "blacks are supermen" myth is a complete fallacy.

Take my hometown of the UK for example. A place where there are far less blacks than america, yet predominatly in the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's where majority black. In the super middleweight division alone you had nigel benn, michael watson, eubank. Heavy weights such as bruno, danny willaims, fraudley harrison, sprott etc.


Now lookma the the same weight divisions, and the racial dynamics have completely changed in recent years froch, ryan rhodes, cleverly, frankie gavin, tyson fury, darren barker, kevin mitchell. Look the UK amateurs, vest majority are whites.

What has changed this??Are the reasons above all valid??Am i missing some points.

For whatever reason the 70's and 80's was a very dark tme in terms of world champs being white, and now we have over 15 world champs from iddleweight upwards. We are even moving in on lower weight classes.

It's because all the blacks are playing football and basketball. I thought we already knew that.

There are multipleeminent reasons why the overrepresentation of blacks in boxingfrom about the 1970s to90s or so was artificial and notindicative of any black advantage. In the first place, almost no whites in America (and I suspect Canada and Western Europe as well) were boxing. All of the boxing gyms are in urban areas populatedalmost exclusively by blacks. Thisreality is compounded by the fact that the two most prominent amataur boxing organizations in America, the PAL and USA Boxing, specifically recruit "at-risk youth"(read; blacks with criminal records) in order to "keep them off the street".Few white Americans were even participating in the sport.

Further, the Eastern Europeanboxers wereverboten from fighting professionally. For political reasons, theEastern Bloc wanted to develop their amataur boxing program in order to showcase their prowess at the Olympic games andWorld Championships. If you look at theirtrack recordduring this timeyou can see that they were quite successful.Peter Palecek, a Czech boxer, beating Mike Tysonat the Junior Olympics but never having the opportunity to compete against him professionally is anexample of this.

Though the American media would have you believejust the opposite (as WA33 alluded to) theracial landscape of boxing today is more meritocratic and indicative of true ability than at any other time in history. Indeed, it's the white fighterswhoare advantaged.

Very informative post, i did not know about peter palecek beat yson. Very interesting.

But it still does not explain why in the uk boxing went from black to very very white. The racial make up of soccer is not much different, so blacks cant use that excuse in the uk.

The key is to get whites in all sports in the USA despite popualr belief i honestly think white americans could be better than eastern block, look at phelps, warriner and armstrong for example.

If you look back on the history of white's in pro boxing you will see one thing they have in common, And that's bad matchups! Jewish promoter's would give a white fighter the worst "Matchup" he could get!What Changed?? Boxing became more popular in europe, Now they got the big money, Boxing is more even! White fighter's are no longer at the mercy of jewish and black promoters.. When a big fight is up for bid, The german's can out bid the jew's in the USA and england! And that's what changed...
