Who Will Win the Stanley Cup?

Two seeming teams of destiny are in the Stanley Cup Finals this year. The Capitals have finally overcome their playoff woes to get beyond the second round to win the Eastern Conference, while the Golden Knights are one of the great sports stories of all time.

As much as I've enjoyed the Penguins torturing the Capitals in the playoffs, I've found myself rooting for them to beat Columbus and then Tampa. I have a lot of respect for Alexander Ovechkin, who has never been the reason for his team's playoff failures. Little was expected of Washington this year, yet they have persevered and become something they never were before, a gritty playoff team, which is why I think they will pull it off against Vegas as, remarkably, the underdogs in the series.

I am not sure how the expansion draft works, but I would think each team was allowed to protect their top players, leaving the Golden Knights to fill their roster with second-tier players. The local NWO rag Washington Compost is picking the Capitals to win in six, so since that is what I want to happen, I will agree and go with that prediction. I am disappointed though not surprised that the ubiquitous magical negro Mike Tirico is announcing at least the beginning of the game for the globalist network. Good lord, we can't get away from these idiots, even in hockey.

Vegas wins 6-4 in a very exciting game. Lars Eller had a wide open shot to tie it from two feet in front of the goal in the final minute but whiffs and then Vegas scores on the empty-netter. Looks like this will be a great series.

Caps even up the series 1-1 in Las Vegas with an epic 3-2 win. Really fun game to watch. The stick save by Holtby towards the end of the game was impressive. Both teams played hard, nasty. It's what hockey is all about.

Great job by the Caps when they killed the 5 on 3 power play in the third period. It seemed like Vegas was going to score, and they must have been very deflated after they couldn't with that opportunity. Fantastic game by Braden Holtby. Brooks Orpik came up huge also.

Even after the 5 on 3, it was 5 on 4 for another minute 9 seconds. Fantastic penalty-killing job by the Caps. The pregame "show" was very entertaining. Glad that Vegas has a team, adds a different element. I might have to make it out there for a game next year just to see the theater.

Yep, a great game to watch. The Caps played very well and with all-out desperation, which they'll have to maintain to win the series. If they had lost tonight that might have sealed their fate. Well deserved win by them.

My local sports talk radio jock made a point that I agreed with. I don't want Vegas to win because the fan base doesn't deserve it. A cup in their first year? Meanwhile Washington fans with over 50 years of futility, many of them with very good teams. How about Toronto, no cup since the 60's, heck hockey mad Canada hasn't had a cup winner from the country since 1993! And Vegas puts together a team of cast-offs and wins the cup? A town in the desert? I hope it doesn't happen.

Caps win again tonight, 3-1, with a pretty dominating performance. After a shaky first period they settled down and were in control for the rest of the game. The only goal they gave up was on a stupid mistake by Holtby when he came out of the net and flicked a blind backhand pass right to one of the Vegas players right in front of the goal.

At the NHL on NBC twitter account they highlighted Devante Smith-Pelly's goal, calling it "filthy" - slang, I guess, for amazing. Yet as some of the responses say it is just a routine goal:

It's like when a black athlete manages to string together a full sentence and you get white sports reporters drooling about how "smart" and "reflective" the athlete must be. The "racism of low expectations" as someone (Condoleezza Rice?) once put it.

Smith-Pelly cost the Caps the first goal of the game when he interfered with Fleury, wiping out a goal and being penalized two minutes. He later had another penalty at a crucial time, but Washington was able to kill off both of them. His goal provided some breathing space, but the Caps were already ahead with the clock ticking down.

Smith-Pelly's game was a great example of black athleticism -- inconsistent, prone to bad plays but also good ones, with the good ones exalted by the media and DWFs and the bad ones almost instantly deposited down the collective memory hole.

There was another game in the Tampa Bay series where Smith-Pelley got two penalties and Tampa Bay scored on either one or both of them. He does get alot of penalties; I wouldn't be surprised if he leads the Caps in that category in the playoffs. He also cost the Caps a crucial goal in Game 1 of the current series. He has scored a few goals in the playoffs and he makes some good hits and some good passes, but yes he is very inconsistent. He belongs on the fourth line which is where he is. The NWO rag Wahington Post loves him for the obvious reason; they probably show him in photos in the Sports section more than any other Capital except Ovechkin.

44 years is a long time to wait, especially when the Caps have had so many very good to great teams going back to the 1990s. The organization and their fans must have felt eternally cursed, but the Capitals finally broke through and did so in a convincing way.

Awesome win by the Caps last night. Ending a drought of 26 years for a championship by a Washington sports team, not counting DC United. After all the playoff disappointments, especially to Pittsburgh, it didn't seem like the Capitals would ever close the deal. But they finally did it, not quite in dominating fashion as they were on the ropes against Columbus and Tampa Bay. But they did it nonetheless and certainly looked like the best team at the end. It will be interesting to see if this team stays together and how they do next year.

Cap is increasing by 4mil, so they have the room it appears. But they need a Beagle replacement also, as I think Beagle will look to cash in because he definitely has cemented himself as the 4C you want for a Cup.
