I included Grothe because I think in the end he will be viewed as a similar prospect to former Penn State QB and current 49ers RB Michael Robinson.

I voted for Roehl i think he may be the best kept secret out there. I also think that Gerhart has a chance to impress people. Grothe will probably end up getting the Eric Crouch treatment in being converted to a safety or slot wr. Hopefully unlike Crouch he will be able to make the transition!

Gerhart is an impressive player. But how does that boost his draft stock? Few teams will even consider a white RB, no matter how impressive.

I think its too early to say, but I'll say Jared Hawkins for now. Tyler also has a legit chance. I really think it will be between those two and Toby. It depends on how Vandy and Stanford do these next two years, IMHO.

Here are my predictions.

Jake Sharp has run the 100 meter in 10.4x before. He has a great 3rd gear. Jared Hawkins or Sharp have the best chance to play HB, b/c of their size /speed combination. Both are going to have to have at least a 1,200 yard year with almost 6 YPC followed by running a 4.45 or better to become...gasp...a mid round draft pick.

Gerhart likely, unless he wins the Doak award or something, will be made an athletic FB type weapon and will be a late round selection ala Peyton Hillis.

Roehl is a Division IAA player and probably won't be drafted at his size because he is too small for a FB. I smell Justin Beaver treatment, although Beaver was slightly more athletic, but in Division III.

Kevin Harris should transfer b/c he is getting no carries. Currently no shot at the NFL.

Kyle Bell, I hate to admit has lost something from his injury and has virtually no shot at getting drafted currently.

Kettani is a priority FA athletic FB prospect by NFL standards and will then have to go back to the military after a mini-camp tryout if he gets one.

Bolen might get drafted in the last 2 or 3 rounds as a FB.

I'm going to say Grothe has the highest stock at this point b/c the NFL likes to turn white running QBs into WRs.

White RBs are virtually banned no matter how good... although...(now the good news) I think McGuffie will be the first to make it through barring injury.

I'm going to go with Gerhart just slightly over Jared Hawkins. Toby is very impressive right now and will only get better as he continues to get over his knee injury. Announcers and media personnel know his name and are quick to sing his praises. Hawkins still seems like an unknown to many people. Hopefully some more big games in the SEC will translate into higher draft stock.

Gerhart will probably be treated like Brian Leonard though, even though unlike Leonard he has only played HB in college and has produced more impressive yards per carry than Leonard. I think that Toby will have to be down right Heisman like to get a better shot than Leonard in the NFL to run the ball.

If Toby keeps up his current pace this season, I could see maybe a mid round selection by the NFL, where they will try to make him a slot back or athletic FB. I doubt he will get to run the ball much if at all at the next level.

IMO Toby runs harder, has better vision and virtually identical quickness and agility to Leonard. Leonard might have a slight edge in second gear though. When looking at Gerhart's H.S highlights I was actually probably more impressed with his agility (it was close) than Leonard's. Gerhart is like the second coming of John Riggins, but will he get his shot.

O.K lets play a game! Jared (or anyone else). I am going to give you an if case scenario and then I was hoping you would tell me where you think Gerhart would get drafted.

Toby finishes this season with roughly 1,500 yards, on 5.5 YPC with 14 TDs. He goes on to run the same time as Leonard at the combine; a 4.49, with a 1.50 10 yard split, the same as he posted in H.S. Where do you predict he gets drafted?

Maybe someone will give me a scenario next.

"if" Gerhart gets drafted at all should be the question.

here's my if-then scenario for you, Tough:

Toby finishes the season rushing for 1,596 yards and 24 touchdowns (both totals will shatter school records). he has an incredible rushing average (8.1 yards per carry) that leads the NCAA, and his 143.8 rushing yards per game rank third nationally. Gerhart adds 32 receptions for 334 yards and 4 touchdowns; he leads the nation in total touchdowns (28) and scoring (15.5 points per game). he wins the Doak Walker award as the nation's top running back. Gerhart plays in just 11 games due to injury.

if this sounds familiar, it's because it is. those totals i posted were the numbers Luke Staley put up in his final year at BYU. Gerhart, much like Staley, has been injury prone in his collegiate career but is INCREDIBLY gifted.

Staley wasn't drafted until the 7th Round, and never played a single snap in the NFL.

edited to add: here's a highlight video of Staley's big year for those who never actually got to see him play.Edited by: Jimmy Chitwood

I agree...Staley was supposedly dismissed b/c he was injury prone. I think he broke his leg in two places. But it was ridiculous that he dropped to the 7th round. Michael Bush had a similar leg injury and only dropped to the third. Plus Michael Bush didn't post quite as impressive the numbers that Staley did in college. Staley was downright freakishly dominant in 2001 and was the better athlete. I thought the NFL valued speed over power. Not so between Staley and Bush.

I don't know maybe playing in the Mountain West conference hurt him too, they used to say it was weak...funny b/c it certainly didn't hurt Ladamian Tomlinson from TCU. He went first overall didn't he...

Basically they will find anything to discredit a white athlete, but hopefully with Gerhart they won't be able to.
