Poorer blacks and Asians are more likely to be gay than wealthier whites, a controversial study claimed yesterday.

A Gallup survey – said to be the largest of its kind ever undertaken in America – estimated that 3.4 per cent of US adults saw themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).

That figure consisted of 4.6 per cent of African-Americans, 4.3 per cent of Asians, 4 per cent of Hispanics – but only 3.2 per cent of whites.

In contrast to earlier, smaller studies, researchers also found that Americans with the lowest levels of education were most likely to say they were gay.

A similar pattern was found in wealth, with more than 5 per cent of those with annual incomes of under £15,000 identified as gay compared with 2.8 per cent earning more than £37,000 a year.

And while 21 per cent of American adults earn more than £56,000 a year, only 16 per cent of gay people claimed to earn that much.

The survey – based on interviews with more than 121,000 people – contradicts the perception that lesbians and gays are mostly white, urban and affluent, said lead author Gary Gates.

‘Contemporary media often think of LGBT people as disproportionately white, male, urban and pretty wealthy,’ said Mr Gates of the University of California, Los Angeles. ‘But this data reveals that relative to the general population, the LGBT population has a larger proportion of non-white people and clearly is not overly wealthy.’

The survey revealed a slight gender difference – 3.6 per cent of women identified themselves as lesbian or gay, compared with 3.3 per cent of men.This discrepancy was particularly marked among younger adults, aged 18 to 29, where 8.3 per cent of women said they were LGBT compared with only 4.6 per cent of men.

From my purely anecdotal perspective, I've always noticed a large amount of black queers, or homo-thugs, in NYC. I recall going to a McDonald's in my college days in The Village and the place was packed with large groups of gay "youths". I never stepped foot in that location again. I've also noticed a ton of black lesbians who dress like the male negros, sagging pants and gangsta flat brimmed caps. I surmise that since black women are the least desirable race, alot turn to homosexuality. Then there's all the black males who have been to prison and are **** on the "down low".

I guess in summary, the Gallup survey does not really surprise me at all.

I think that it is something in the water or food supply in the west, industrial pollution, possible even deliberate, as in the James Tiptree story, "The Screwfly Solution", that is making men in the west less masculine and women less feminine. It even extends down to the lower animals, fish losing their male characteristics etc.

If you look at the recent players who have revealed homosexuality all have been Black except for a soccer player. Even former players that are known as straight have mentioned gay relatives and how they were shunned by family members. In general Blacks lead the most primitive lifestyles out of all ethnic groups less Native Americans so homosexuality is viewed as the lowest of low. Situations like what has happened to Eddie Murphy and Mr. Cee are much more common because of this. I think there has to be a lot more to it than that, CS. They could have lectured American boys from 50 or 100 years ago about how cool it would be to jump in bed with another guy, or girls about how great it would be to make out with another girl, until they were blue in the face, and all they would have gotten for their trouble would have been getting beaten up outside in the parking lot.
