Adam Shada, Iowa cornerback

Shada is probably the most physical cornerback in the BIg Ten, and has the speed and instincts to be a big-time playmaker. he tied for the team lead in interceptions and was second in pass break-ups despite missing the final four games of the year due to injury. he has started since he was a sophomore.

look for sophomore strong safety James Truxillo to emerge as the leader of the ULM Warhawks defense this year. their website is under construction, but he is having a big camp, and a lot of responsibilty is on his young shoulders this fall.

thanks, backrow.

Caleb Campbell, Army strong safety

Caleb is big, strong, and fast. athletes like him aren't supposed to be at the military academies. he is the un-disputed leader and best player on Army's defense, and he has a shot to play in the NFL. he'd be a sure-thing if he were a bit darker.

Tom Zbikowski, Notre Dame safety/punt returner

a high school All-American cornerback with blazing speed, Tom might be the best safety in college football, but he had a down year last season. he is the leader ofNotre Dame's defense, and hopefully he will dominate this fall.

Marcus Watts, Kansas State safety

a playmaking safety who can both cover and hit, Marcus is a pre-season First-Team Big 12 selection. he led the Widlactas in picks last season despite playing in only the first 8 games (starting 4) due to injury. he was still named 2nd-team all-conference. he is among the elite safeties in the nation.

Air Force is expected to start an all-white secondary.
smiley32.gif
and while only sophomore safety Chris Thomas is getting much talk about his "talent," this is the onlyteam in American Division I football that starts 4 whites in the defensive backfield. support your Falcons!

Sophomore strong/free safety Chris Thomas has emerged as the leader of the secondary, in part due to him beinga BIG hitter. he has been penciled in as the starting free safety, for now, after moving over from strong safety. http://goairforcefalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/thomas _chris00.html

Luke Yeager has taken over strong safety after Bobby Giannini's demotion from free safety, but look for that to change early in the season. http://goairforcefalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/yeager _luke00.html

Shiloh Keo, Idaho safety

Shiloh was second on the team in tackles and passes defensed as a true-freshman last year, good enough to be an honorable-mention Frshman All-American. the Vandals are counting heavily on this youngster.

John Mackey, Akron rover/strong safety

John led the Zips in tackles last year. and with their 3-3-5 defense, he will probably need to make a lot of plays again.

their site is messed up or something, because i couldn't find the team bios.

cornerback Cole Marton came from the JuCo ranks two years ago and emerged as a lock-down cover man with speed for the New Mexico Aggies before getting hurt in the first game of the year. he is healthy, and hopefully we will get to see what he can do this year. he is a virtual unknown.

thanks, guys. i had some free time today, and thought i'd make an opportunity.

i didn't include every white starter in the secondary, only the corners i know about and the safeties who are likely to earn post-season honors.

sadly, there are far too few of both.

i thought i'd get us started off with a couple of talented defensive backs from the Boise State Broncos.

Marty Tadman heads into his senior season as the active national leader in career interceptions with 12 and interception returns for touchdowns with three, while ranking second in career interception return yards with 269.<SPAN>  </SPAN>Tadman was a second-team All-WAC pick as a junior and earned defensive MVP honors at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl after intercepting two passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

also, the Broncos have an un-heralded sophomore cornerback who i've mentioned on here before, who is poised to make an impact. his name is Cade Hulbert. Cade was the State Champion in Idaho in the 400 meters 3 times, and the 200 meters twice. here's a blurb i found on him from a Boise State preview article with emphasis added:

Cade Hurlbert: So., CB, 5-10, 165Hurlbert is straight up the fastest guy on the team.He sat out last season after transferring from Brigham Young University. He will not start by any means, but look for this young speedster to show up all over the special teams. He is small, but man, can he run. Hulbert was a tailback and track star at Capital High three years ago.Look for Hurlbert to get into the mix on some offensive plays as well. BSU is one of those teams that will use its players to their greatest potential and Hurlbert's speed will always give him chances to play.

aside from mis-spelling his name, it's pretty impressive. he has his work cut out to break into the starting line-up, however with his phenomenal speed he might just do it. also, he has the #1 uniform, which very few white cats nationwide get to wear.

I noticed this guy last season when I was following Boise State to their eventual championship. I like to see guys like him in sports. With all that ink up and down both arms, he looks more like someone that I would see at a punk/hardcore show/concert than in a football uniform. Thats pretty cool, at least they're not gang tattoos like the ones Maurice Clarett (a.k.a. inmate #5346717

) has on his body.

Nice picture backrow! Perfect angle to see Champion's 2 point chinstrap that he used for the second half of last season.

Hey I'm a true Rebel, and a 2 point chinstrap is illegal, so it's natural that I'd have an eye for rule infractions.
