When was it 50/50

69% Black!!! I thought it was around
50/50. I haven't watched the NFL regularly in a LONG time(not
since the early 1980's). Obviously, I've seen a few games like
the Super Bowls. Mostly, I watch a lot of local high school and small
college ball. Until recently I played in a fun league. I
read about the Patriots in the Newspaper and thought they were a normal
NFL team racially. I also thought they were whiter than they are
I guess because many of the talked about players are white.
 
You really need to go to a game to get the full shock of the almost all black NFL. The sidelines are where the players take their helmets off and then it is soooo obvious.
 
I have also noticed that no single nfl team will dare break the 50% barrier of total white players on the roster. Surely, they are afraid of the negative backlash that may accompany a team with over 50% whites. The rams were the closest in recent memory with 26 in 2003. When was the last team with over 50% white players? Anybody?
 
The Rams were one short of a majority white roster but are now down to 20 whites out of 53 players. The Bills of the early '90s may have been the last majority white team. They were very close for several years, but I'm notcertain if they actually had a white majority or not.


It would take a lot of research to find the definitive answer, unless someone knows for sure.

Brothers-in-law are universally dunderheads, and can be relied on for stupidity just on general principles. Mine ridiculed me for years about my claim that the NFL had long become a 'hood for black criminals. His last visit to a Ravens - Redskins game changed his mind when he bought a game program and examined the mugshots of the players. Yep, the whites are gone. No resemblance whatsoever to a Colts-Skins game of 1972.


A local seafood restaurant sports a team photo of the 1967 Washington Redskins. The roster was about 80% caucasoid
 
Probably more than 80%, the Redskins didn't integrate until 1962, and there were times both in 1962 and 3 when they had no blacks starting.
 
Being such a young fan I really do have a hard time imagining a NFL with lots of white WRs, DBs, and even HBs. It's pretty amazing in a not so good type of way.
 
It is a shame that whites who are younger than 40 only know a world
where whites are considered "slow, heavy-legged " and
generally unathletic. I remember attending an AFL game between the San
Diego Chargers and the Jets in the mid 60s.. The Chargers had blacks
starters or backups at all of the skill positions ,except QB but
their best offensive players ,beside QB ,were Lance Alworth and Keith
Lincoln both white. Alworth was a very fast ,graceful, game breaking
wide receiver who was probably the best receiver in the AFL, if not in
all of football.. Lincoln was white running back (they did exist ) who
had a perfect blend of power , speed, and quickness. He weighed
approximately 215 lbs but was a kick returner who had several TDs on
kickoff returns.I remember with 2 minutes remaining and San DIego
behind , everyone knew Lincoln would carry the ball on just about every
play. But he couldn't be stopped. He single- handedly ran the ball
almost the length of the field on about 7 or 8 carries to set up a
winning field goal (which was missed). My point is: the only reason
there are no Alworths or Lincolns in Pro football today ,is THE CASTE
SYSTEM.
