Now that the World Cup is over, I would like to vent a little about what bothered me watching the World Cup. I can't beleive that I am the only one bothered by these things.
1.) The flopping - I have never seen so many attempts to draw calls as I saw in this World Cup. Are these guys men or not? Replays showed again and again that guys went down like they were shot by a sniper without ever being touched. The big problem for me was that it worked. Teams did it all tournament long and Spain was flopping throughout the final match. Instant replay needs to be brought in to stop all this flopping even more so than to see if goals are good or not. If a player is caught flopping he should receive the yellow card.
My daughter played H.S. soccer and now plays college soccer and there is no flopping during games. Players just play the ball and only go down if brought down. The art of selling bogus fouls to the referee is not one these girls seem to have picked up on. My son's college was ranked in the top ten in D1 soccer rankings and again I never saw the flopping during the 4 or 5 games I watched.
2.) Wake me up when there is a shot on goal, please. It seems like I saw very few good shots on goal that actually headed to an empty corner of the net. Goals scored were either very easy rebounds or point blank shots with a very high percentage of going in. Just about every shot at the goal from any distance went either wide or over the net. Players even missed penalty kicks. Spain only scored 8 goals the whole tournament.ZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!
3.) Italy got knocked out in pool play.
