I wouldn't normally start a new golf thread about a tournament that wasn't a major, however, all the top players in the world are in this event and could be an indication of a how certain players are performing leading up to next weeks PGA.

Also, a lot of talk concerning whether Tom Watson picks Tiger Woods for the Ryder Cup. Watson has been on record saying he, Woods, needs to show him something in the upcoming tournaments. We'll see if Watson holds to his word or if he succumbs to the pressure to pick Woods if he continues to play poorly!

One of my hopefuls for next week, Patrick Reed with the early lead after 12 holes at -4. Also Matt Kuchar at -4.

Looks like the WGC-Bridgestone is shaping up to be a great tournament!

Sergio Garcia with the lead at -11. He shot a course record tying 61, including a 27 on the back nine!

Justin Rose sits 2nd at -8
Marc Leishman 3rd -7

T-4 Schwartzel -6
T-4 McIlroy -6
T-4 Fowler -6
T-7 Bradley -5
T-7 Reed -5

Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy in the final pairing tomorrow at -14 and -11 respectively.

Will be a nice final day at Firestone leading up to the PGA next week.

Tiger just quit. He was +3 through 8 holes and then grabbed his back and quit. This guy is miserable. No doubt he has had some physical issues, but Bubba was embarrassing him off the tee. Without his length, there is no intimidation factor. His psyche is more fragile than his body.

Yeah icsept, I hate to call a guy a liar, but it seems every time he plays bad his back starts to hurt. He may or may not be faking, but this is what happened the last time he was playing bad.

..and yes it seems the intimidation factor is over!

He will officially fall behind Jack Nicklaus's Major win pace after next weeks PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy wins the WGC-Bridgestone beating Sergio Garcia by 1 stroke. Rory's second win in a row! I'm not sure if he'll take over number or not, we'll see tomorrow.

Patrick Reed finishes strong at T-4 and Jordan Spieth finished at 49th. I'm hoping one of these 3 players win next weeks PGA with Adam Scott my 4th favorite.

McIlroy, Spieth, Reed, or Scott in that order.

It will be interesting to see of what becomes of Tiger Woods over the next couple of days.

I don't know if ESPN this morning gave Rory any airtime for his win this weekend. I may have missed the blurb about his win, but they did do a 5 minute piece on Tiger - who didn't even finish.
