Story so far (all the notable stats, QBs excluded):

Offense

Heath Miller, TE Steelers: got the best he could out of 3 catches, 101 (game best)yards and a huge 87 yards(longest of his career) 4th quarter TD!

Mike Furrey, WR Lions: his 5 receptions for 55 yards were game high... not too bad for a safety not wanted in St.Louis...

Mike Alstott, FB Bucs: too little too late, he was the only guy on that Buccaneer offense that showed up to play and Gruden only went to him in 3rd quarter, down by 20 points... Mike responded by converting for 3 1st downs. final stat line : 1 run for 2 yards (on 3rd and 1) 3 catches for 26 yards

It would have been great for Wes to have padded his stats with a couple more receptions there late, but oh well, he still led his team.

Is it just me, or are there way more commercials during the games than last year?

I thought I'd edit this post to ask another 'Is it just me?' question:

Is it just me or are these some horrible opening day games? Studs are fumbling, quarterbacks throwing balls in the dirt, passed dropped, INT's, mediocre rushing plays.. maybe I'm just watching the wrong games, but I'm going through the play-by-play on NFL.com and am shocked at what I'm reading.

Anyone else? Edited by: White Shogun

Anyone know that Mike Furrey is playing WR in Detroit? He is their leading receiver at the half with two catches for 27 yards.

Furrey is doing great. Took a pretty vicious shot and still held onto the ball. #18 (Roy) Williams shutdown on a bomb thrown to him that I thought was catchable by any receiver with desire (someone like Furrey).

Was it my imagination, or was there like 6 or 7 white offensive starters for the Lions? 4 O-linemen, Kitna, the TE (Samoan?) and Schlesinger.

I'm bouncing around on some other message boards, and the most prevalent question is, "Who's this guy 'Furrey??"

Furrey is having a good game. The Lions do start a number of white guys on offense. The tight ends are Casey Fitzsimmons, Marus Pollard (who is black of course) and Dan Campbell (white) who made a nice long catch for the Lions.

The announcers for the game, Stockton, Johnson, and Saraguso, which I think is one of the "A" crews, said something really stupid that is tpical of the anti-white crap that they love to push. Mike Furrey (Lions WR)makes a nice catch and Stockton says: "They bought Furrey in to help the other guys because he knows Martz' system, and they must be really happy that is is also giving them some production" WTF! Is Furrey a coach or a player? How is he going to "help" the other players, give remedial classes on the playbook? The guy was brought in t play and he is doing a good job. Geez guys give him some props without the caste BS.

What's more than annoying is the way they make such statements without hesitation, unequivocally, as though they sit in on every coach's meeting and have some super-secret insider info about a player. They don't know enough about Furrey to begin to give us any anecdotes about his history, what positions he's played in the past nothing. They just talk because they have to fill air time.

Drew Bennett had 8 catches for 108 yards today.Despite the loss,K.Collins at least got him the ball more than McNair ever did.I still feel so bad for Volek. They even went on and on in the post game on tv about how unfair he was treated. All of the announcers said the Titans treatment to Volek made absolutely no sense.I totally agree.Billy Volek would have led them to victory today.I just hope that they don't play musical quarterbacks all year long because that would kill Bennetts chances to have another huge year.He needs to develop a chemistry with Kerry Collins.

Will drew have a career year this year? Or is it to early to speculate? I really hope we have a white receiver lead his conference or the league in receiving yardage.

I would love to see him lead the whole nfl but with the qb situation,I doubt it.It did make me angry however watching the Broncos/Rams Game. Both Kevin Curtis and David Kircus were not thrown to one time. How can two receivers this talented not have any catches. What a waste.Hopefully both teams will do a better job next week in passing to these guys.Good game for Mike Furrey with 55 yards receiving.I just wish that he was on a better team.

We think Furrey had a great game as the Lions leading reciever, other white Lions fans think:

(from LIONS DEN messageboard)
Furrey did a decent job today, but people are getting too excited because all of our other WR's looked like crap. If he doesn't just roll up into a ball on 2nd down, it might have been 3rd and 1.

The fact that he looked more like the #1 than Roy is just a reflection on Roy!

either didn't play or didn't feature much in a gameplan:
David Kircus, Joe Jurevicius, Kevin Curtis, Dane Looker...

I read that he injured his ribs and left the game in the first half. I saw Kircus on the field for a few seconds.

Javon Walker went up for a pass that he should have had and it bounced off his facemask, next play he dropped another right in his hands. I only mention this in case Kircus ever drops one and is forced to sit until hell freezes over. Edited by: Bart

How about Dallas Clark and Jeremy Shockey both scoring tonight. I hope one of them gets another score tonight!

Anyone else notice that certain players get credit for a tackle when they're not even in the vicinity of the ball? I sometimes wonder if they review every tackle or just guess.

Because I am sick of the media and the country overlooking the talented whites, Idrafted all whites formy fantasy team. Wish me luck, I'm getting creamed so far, but I still have Brad Johnson tonight.

yeah, i've noticed that... if it's not clear they mostly give it to some usual suspect, for example Urlacher, Thomas or Lewis on their respective teams

The software on fantasy football programs like My Fantasy League is so fast now that they give IDPs points for tackles almost instantaneously. I wonder too how accurate such snap judgments are about whowas theprimary tacklerand whether or not another player assisted.
