We need athletic nba talent

We need athletic nba talent.It is so frustrating to see
very few if any athletic white guys in the nba.I want
to see alot of athletes like David Lee of Florida.He
is headed to the NBA soon.We need some guys with
incredible athletic ability to sell jerseys,shoes,etc.
We need white guys consistantly competiting in the
NBA Dunk Contest.We need kids that prove that they can
jump out of the gym just like Jordan could.I have long
waited for the day to see these kids start to get chances
to play at the Pro Level.For whatever reason(caste),
they are never drafted.I think that now we are slowly
seeing a little progress.We have a long way to go.David
Lee can be the first of many incredible dunkers just
like him to inspire future kids to play the game at the
highest level.

I will add that I don't want these kids to lose their
fundamentals.I really don't think that will happen.I
just want to see more of them with the all around game.
Kids that can dominate and take over a game from the
inside and the outside.The McDonalds Nat'l High School
All Star Game was very fun to watch.The future is looking
bright.

Kid's will only play in a sport they think they can excel in. With basketball labeled as a black sport how many white kid's would give up playing baseball for this game? Not many, and that's why it has gotten this bad. Maybe with influx of these foreign born players our future children will see that white player's can succeed in the college and the NBA. I just never understood what is so special about the dunk. I think brisk passing and outside shooting is much more exciting. I remember playing at the YMCA we weren't allowed to touch the rim.

Sure we need more athletic whites- the more the merrier. But
more than anything we need a change in attitude. The focus
needs to be on winning, and any player that can help his
team win should be valued, regardless of any particular
isolated attribute. A player is more than the sum of his
parts, and so is a team. A team needs several winners on its
roster, not just a few impressive athletes who can win Slam
Dunk Contests. If a player- white or black- can dunk and that's
all he can do, who needs him?

Raw athleticism will always be a part of sports, and people will
always be impressed by it. But what people want more than
anything else is victories for their team. Once they're smart
enough to be more impressed by an unathletic player who
knows how to win than a more athletic player who doesn't know
how to win (but still impressed by his athleticism,) then things
will change. And then coaches and front offices will be less
tolerant of black players who coast through their careers
wow-ing people with their raw athleticism but not contributing to
the team's bottom line in any tangible way.

Quite agree JD. One of the more pleasurable NCAA b-ball watching experiences for me was seeing Princeton knock off defending champ UCLA several years ago. Raw athleticism is always compelling yet so is seeing athletes and teams excel by getting the most out of what they have.

I said in the 2nd post that I only want to see it if
they still can shoot and pass.I don't want to see them
become ball hogs or want to be's.It just would be nice
to see guys with more of an all around game.Manu
Ginobli is the type of player that I am talking about.
He can do it all.Ginobli plays great defense,can dribble,
pass,shoot and also dunk on people when necessary.We
need alot more guys with his game.I can't see whites
not being fundamentally sound.Most are as they practice
their shooting religiously!
