Was This Game Fixed?

I know not all of you buy into my "fixed" theories regarding sports,
but just think about a few things here. EVERY time there is a heralded
white player going head-to-head vs. a heralded black player, for at
least the past 25 years or so, the black player (or his team)
wins. The ending of this game was just too convenient; the balleyhooed
black QB leading his team down the field for the winning TD (with USC
defensive players just not quite able to grasp that this guy was just
going to pack it in and run every time). I told the friends I was
watching the game with, that once USC made the curious decision to go
for it on 4th and 2, they were going to be stopped, and then Texas
would drive down for the winning TD, with nothing on this earth able to
stop Vince Young himself from scoring it. We now know that at least one
other national championship game was fixed, the 1984 match between
Miami and Nebraska. WR Irving Fryar came out publicly, about a decade
later, with the information that he'd been paid off to drop some key
passes. Predictably, no one in the kept press had the least bit of
curiosity about who had paid him off, and no one suggested launching a
full investigation of the NCAA, who should have been tarnished by
Fryar's revelations. Instead, Fryar's comments were quickly forgotten,
as were Bubba Smith's belated claims that Super Bowl III was
fixed.

Some of Vince Young's TD runs were ridiculous, guys just waving at his legs. On the last one he jogged into the end zone untouched. How can a guy like him not have multiple players assigned to him on that play? I don't know that it was fixed, how could you keep all those college players quiet? But still Young made it look to easy.

Onsome ofhis runs he reminded meof Terrel Davisin the Super Bowl, when Mike Holmgren told his defense to let him score.

The fact that Irving Fryar admitted to being paid off in one college
championship game should make all college championship games since then
suspect. Of course, none of the lame, wannabe comedians that masquerade
as sports "journalists" have the least bit of interest in exploring
this subject. I wonder why....

(Let's see if I can stick to my New Year's Resolution to start posting here
regularly - I use the work excuse too much, Hell, I work for myself,
renting an office from a business filled with people that pay me no mind,
what's a few minutes slacking here and there, eh?)

The game sure looked fixed from the way the SC defensive players would
just try and push Vince Young, or swipe at his ankles with one arm.
However, I think it's possible that the poor fundamentals that have
infected the game top to bottom, college and NFL, were front and center
in this game. The poor fundamentals, poor tackling, are a direct result of
the Caste System, favoring blacks and their "styles" of play. Styles that
include many players not willing to feel pain, not willing to risk "looking
bad" by committing to a full tackling effort. Players more interested in
"looking good" no matter the cost in terms of points lost.

Both teams gave up over 500 of offense to the opponent. Unreal. Young
is not all that great a QB either - but the post game commentary on ABC
had me wondering if indeed the Second Coming was upon us. Lee Corso
(man, does he look like Mel Brooks or what?) was sucking sack like I
couldn't believe. Wait, I take that back. After having witnessed year after
year of Vick worship, I may be going too far. Yeah, it's possible things
were set up, but I have a feeling a major part of it is the black lack of
fundamentals in all areas dovetailing into a situation where the defensive
units become easily befuddled.

Why wasn't a player assigned to Young? I'm not the only person who's
asked, but I'll ask anyway. Stunning.

At least Young will collapse in the pros, another over-hyped bust in the
making. Unless they alter and rig the pro game completely in order to
make sure blacks can have some success in number in the NFL. Edited by: Colonel Callan

If anyone took money for that game it had to be Reggie Bush. In addition to his unexplainable lateral attempt, he continually ran to the sidelines instead of running up the middle. The other USC back had constant 8 yard gains running in between the tackles. As I watched Bush run I would see the line opening holes but he would never run through them. He would just get strung out and go meekly out of bounds. Also, the next to last play of the game. He ran out of bounds when it looked to me like he had a real good shot of breaking back inside and sprinting for the end zone. He didn't need to run out of bounds because he had gotten a first down and the clock would have stopped. USC could have hustled to the line and spiked it and only lost a second or two.

Throw Pete Carroll in the mix also. Horrible 4th down call and completely wasted his last time out.

I really don't feel comfortable with these conspiracy theories. It is hard for me to beleive that any USC player would turn down a shot at a 3rd National Championship.

Vince Young doesn't even seem all that fast to me. Maybe his long stride is deceptive. I know some people think that Matt Jones doesn't appear fast because of his long stride (or maybe just because he's white,) so I don't want to jump to conclusions. I wonder if he and Bush will even run the 40 yd dash at the Combine....

But I have to believe that there are white QB's who can run about as well as him. Edited by: JD074

It is certainly a possibility worth contemplating. Without a doubt these types of incidents DO occur.

I am a little dubious of if the USC/ Texans game was fixed though. I think this is just a situation of Pete Carrol just haveing too aggressive playcalling and the Trojans defense not being that good (and remember the Trojans defenese not being good was one reason many thought they might lose)

Here is an article that delves into this subject within the NFL: the nfl: professional fantasy football?
by Brian Tuohy

(Brian Tuohy also had another 'NFL conspiracy' article appear in Paranoia Magazine and also a subsequent Paranoia Magazine softcover Anthology, but I can't find it on the internet.)

The "fixing" subject came up last year when the Colts lost to New England in the AFC Title Game. I posted then, that I have often seen black guys complain of a "fix" when their team loses.

I am so sick of hearing how great an afflete Young is simply because he ran 2 short TD's past a no-tackling bunch of black USC DB's. If anything, he was lucky he wasn't playing against a team that was trying to tackle him. He walked the last one in, so the fuss about his super athletic ability is a bunch of hooey as far as the end of that game goes. His leadership and poise may stand up better to scrutiny than his athleticism in the last quarter.

My guess is that Bush was playing not to get hurt -- He already has the Heisman, and he was looking forward to his big payday and he didn't want to risk an injury in his last game (See, Willis McGahee).
