Wallball!

This is what most of my white friends and some white enemies played every day when I was in high school. I thought it was merely a local phenomenon, but tried to look it up on Wikipedia and apparently it's played all over America and as far from here as Australia. This game was awesome; I had good hand-eye coordination at the time, and some of the most fun memories of my life were spent playing it. Just wondering if anybody else here used to have this pastime?

Absolutely! Grade school to high school, wallball was the recess game of choice for me and my friends on the playground. We just used a tennis ball, but some people used the hard rubber ones.

Awesome! We used an ROTC brick building for the wall, that abutted a tennis court for our field. If out of school, we'd play on a grass surface, but as you can imagine that didn't work too well.

We used some pretty simple rules...none of the having to bounce the ball before it hit the wall, or anything about ducking the ball and yelling "watermelon" (we would've constantly been in an argument about those segments) that I read on the Wikipedia page.

We used a tennis ball, usually. A rubber ball only if it was the only thing we had. What kind of court did you use Phillybirds?

In middle school, our recess yard was right up against the outside of the auditorium, so we had a massive brick wall to use. The yard itself was asphalt.

We used the simple rules too. Anything too complicated just wasn't all that fun!

We used a racquetball. Mostly played in middle school back in the early 80's. Haven't thought about it since then until this thread.

We called it butts up. The first person to get 3 strikes had to go up to wall and get throw at by everyone. If you dropped the ball, you had to touch the wall before being hit by the ball thrown by someone else.If you were hit before you touched the wall, it was a strike. We never played between 2 walls though. There should bea pro league of this. It takes a lot of skill.

What about 500 or "bounce or fly". In 500 ypu would get 100 pts if you caught the ball on a fly, 75 one bounce, 50 two, 25 3 or more. The person with 500 would then hit the ball. You could alsouse a kick ball.

In bounce of fly , if you caught in on a bounce or fly, you would then hit.
