I thought Scott won. He was doing more of what he wanted to do than Glazkov was able to. The Ukranian should be happy with a draw. He went to school a little against a real cagey pro. The fight will benefit him down the road, much more than knocking out some bum would. Back in the old days a close loss like that was no big deal. The loser would take what he'd learned with him to the gym and be a better fighter down the road.

Glazkov should be in the thick of things for a while to come.

I saw the fight with commentary in Russian so I can't comment on Mr Flores. Also a possible disclaimer to what I wrote above: the stream I was watching was freezing up badly so I missed large chunks of the fight.

It further shows what happened this weekend magnifies the gulf between Wladimir and the rest of the division. Nobody but Thompson's family wants him to get a third crack at Klitschko....

The K's are the greatest heavyweights of all time.

Garrett Wilson steps in and steps up to fight Glazkov

When Tomasz Adamek pulled out of his nationally televised bout with Czar Glazkov, scheduled for NBC on Saturday afternoon, it opened the door for one of Philly’s hardest working fighters. For ages now, cruiserweight Garrett Wilson has been looking for a chance to fight a high-profile opponent, as well as an opportunity to perform on TV. He’s fought everyone who was willing to face him, but still feels like he’s been spinning his wheels, especially this year. So with Adamek’s sudden case of the sniffles, the Ultimate Warrior finally gets his chance to make an impression. The only catch is that Wilson must become a heavyweight to do it.

“The reality is, I’m 31,” Wilson said. “I’m not getting any younger. And if the cruiserweight division doesn’t want to fight me, then I’ll move to a division that is more apt to fight me.”

Ever since dropping a decision in Romania to Alexander Alekseev, in a February IBF cruiserweight eliminator, Wilson has been like the plague. What fights he did land after that disappointing loss were cancelled due to injury to his opponents.

But mostly Wilson waited and waited for offers that never came in. (He did however, decline a chance to fight friend and fellow-Philadelphian Eddie Chambers earlier in the year.)

With the end of 2013 closing in, Wilson began toying with the idea of becoming a heavyweight – either by design or desperation. He booked a cruiserweight bout for December, but then the unlikely call came to sub for Adamek. For Wilson, the surprise offer made becoming a heavyweight a reality.

“I feel as though I have put a lot of work in,” Wilson said. “I’ve paid my dues, and I’ve been fighting tough guys since I started. I think it’s about time that the world has the opportunity to see me fight.”

On Saturday, everyone will be watching. Past NBC shows on Saturday afternoon have pulled big ratings, and the network projects the home TV audience will be at least one million viewers.

“That’s a beautiful thing,” Wilson said. “I’ve been looking for an opportunity to showcase my talent, and now I finally get it. Not just local TV, or not just internet television. Now mainstream television is able to see me fight. And this is free. So I think that’s going to make a difference in my career.”

Some of Wilson’s past fights have been thrillers. He saved his USBA cruiserweight belt with a crushing Hail Mary KO of Chuck Mussachio in 2011, pummeled Andres Taylor for the NABF championship last year, and pounded out a one-sided rout of Omar Sheika before that. If Wilson can repeat any of those signature wins against Glazkov on Saturday, he’ll breathe new life into his boxing career.

“I’m not going to say that I’m the best there is, but I can say that I’m a pretty good fighter,” Wilson said. “I think I can handle myself in the heavyweight division. As long as I have a good showing (against Glazkov), I think it will still help promote my career.”

A good showing won’t hurt Wilson’s career, but only a victory against Glazkov will seriously change his future for the better. Opportunities like these don’t come too often, and the best plan is to get the win no matter what. A classic Garrett Wilson knockout is what he needs most for this one.

“I’m going for a win by any means,” Wilson said. “The guy is a puncher. His record says that. But I don’t fight the record. I fight the guy. I feel as though I can withstand the punches. The question is, can he withstand mine?”
Wilson will find out on Saturday afternoon. He grabbed this opportunity to fight, and hasn’t looked back since. Not that he’s had the time to even do that. After his trainer Rodney Rice received the offer by phone, Wilson said yes, got his medicals and hit the road for Verona, NY. The next step is Friday’s weigh in at noon. For his first weigh in as a heavyweight, Wilson expects to hit the scales somewhere between 206 and 210 pounds.

Twenty-four hours after that, Wilson gets the chance to fight as a heavyweight, appear on national television, surprise everyone, upset the apple cart, and prove that he is better than his record indicates.

It’s a tall order, but it’s the chance of a lifetime.

“The main thing is just letting the world know who the Ultimate Warrior is, and what I’m about,” Wilson said. “And that’s fighting quality fights and winning quality fights.”

Glazkov defeats Wilson

Unbeaten IBF #10 heavyweight Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (16-0-1, 11 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over gutsy cruiserweight late sub Garrett Wilson (13-7-1, 7 KOs) on Saturday afternoon at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. Super game effort by Philly fighter Wilson, who accepted the fight on Wednesday. He took the fight to the much larger Glazkov, but Glazkov became increasingly dominant as Wilson faded late. Scores were 97-93, 98-92, 99-91. Glazkov’s original opponent, Tomasz Adamek, was forced to pull out of the bout on short notice due to a stomach virus.

I thought Vyacheslav Glazkov looked impressive in his decision win tonight, beating tough journeyman Garrett Wilson by UD. Glazkov displayed a tremendous jab, accurate power punching, and strong defensive ability. A lot of the power punches Glazkov landed on Wilson would have KO'd many guys, but Wilson was tough and managed to survive the distance. Wilson took a thrashing in there though, it seemed like Glazkov never missed with his right hand.

Obviously, Garrett Wilson is not the best opponent out there, but his 13-6-1 record is deceiving. He's been matched very tough, and of his 6 losses I believe he has only been stopped once. He's also riding a 6-1-1 record in his last 8 fights, and has beaten some strong names, the only loss coming in a decision loss to Alexander Alekseev. Wilson is a very tough, durable, and wild fighter that will give many guys problems.

Credit to both guys on an entertaining fight. Glazkov looked great, can't wait to see him in action again. Think this is the type of fight that he can improve from going forward!

Wilson is very durable and a top fighter. Glazkov looked good but not sure he is big enough to take over when the Klitschkos leave the scene. Shame as he has all the tools - movement, power, jab, defense, chin, stamina, killer instinct, great amateur background. Just wish he was 20 pounds heavier.

Derric Rossy: Where is the accountability?

“I am disappointed,” said heavyweight Derric Rossy (29-9, 14 KOs) after losing a controversial ten round majority decision against IBF #2 rated Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (18-0-1, 11 KOs) on Saturday night at the Sands Bethlehem in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Rossy outthrew Glazkov 738 to 400, and outlanded the Olympic medalist 184 to 159, but still came up on the short end of two scorecards, with judge Pierre Benoist crediting Rossy with just two rounds the entire fight.
“It’s hard to get the words together,” stated Rossy. “I am trying to find out what they were looking at. There is no accountability. You are messing with peoples’ lives. I take my hat off to Glazkov. I know I won that fight. When it is very askew you have to wonder, where is the accountability?”

I don't know. I didn't see it. Is it online? I just figure that in most cases whatever boxing judges say the opposite is the truth. Rossy, by the way, is, I think, Italian - Puerto Rican. I guess his ancestors changed their name from Rossi to Rossy, or someone at Ellis Island spelled it wrong.

That first knockdown was a k.o. with out a doubt. Glazkov dominated the fight. Manswell was scared of the man. Should have been stopped sooner. Another good win for Glazkov.

I wonder what that refs name is? He should be banned from the sport. Only thing I wonder if he thought there was an illegal blow? Not from what I seen. The uppercut did the damage then the right across the lips merely swatted him the rest of the way down. He was hurt. Bad! But cleanly hurt. I'd like to know more info on post fight questions put the ref and others.

Perfectly clean KO punch to the jaw in round two. I have no idea what that was all about. At any rate it was a meaningless fight. The negro had lost nine of his last ten getting KO'd in most of them.
