Much of the credit goes to Podsednik, who leads the Majors with 41 stolen bases and has asserted himself as one of the driving forces in the White Sox's 2005 turnaround. But Podsednik's teammates and the organization also deserve a pat on the back for getting out the vote for the left fielder.
It all began Monday, when Podsednik signed autographs for 90 minutes for the White Sox fans while one of manager Ozzie Guillen's sons held up a sign reading "Vote for Scott." The campaign grew after Monday's victory, when Buehrle implored the U.S. Cellular Field crowd to get online and vote for Podsednik.
Buehrle repeated that announcement prior to Tuesday's victory over the Devil Rays, and the campaign also included shirts and buttons bearing "Vote for Scott." Podsednik did everything but kiss a few babies in order to increase his support.
The All-Star trip will be the first for Podsednik and Garland, and the second for Konerko and Buehrle. The 29-year-old Podsednik toiled for eight years in the Minors before getting his first Major League at-bats with the Mariners in 2001. He has not tried to hide his overwhelming desire to be part of this year's AL All-Star team.
The icing on the cake for Podsednik comes in the form of a $25,000 bonus, in addition to a $75,000 bump in his 2006 salary, for making the 2005 All-Star team.
Konerko believes that all five Final Vote candidates were all worthy of a vote. But he also thinks any tough choices should have been won by the player who has meant the most to baseball's most successful team.
"The tiebreaker should be the team, if it's close between the players," Konerko said. "You have to sit there and look at it and figure out which one means the most to the team, which player has helped his team to the best record. Hopefully, that helped Scott get a lot more votes."
Konerko also joked that while there are many Yankees supporters, the White Sox were hoping for Matsui and Jeter to split that particular vote. Podsednik appeared to be a long shot at the start, but the White Sox fans, players and the entire organization rallied to the cause.

Yea i voted for him at least a hundred times, its a good day for the white sox, 4 allstars = 4 white players.They have a couple other white pitchers i think got snubbed from the allstar game also. By the way they are 31 games over 500 right now (57-26)

Explain to me how a talent like Podsenik spent 8 years
in the minors.What a joke.If nothing else,he should have
at least been brought up to be a pinch runner.He deserves
all the media attention for wasting his best years in
the minor leagues.He has become one of my favorite players
in all of baseball.Way to go Podsednik.

You're absolutely right about that. We see so many black baseball players who have nothing going for them except some speed, but are given many chances. Podsednik has elite speed, and a lot of other positive baseball attributes, yet spent eight years in the minors. Pure Caste System politics!
I tuned in to a sports showfrom Chicago. They were discussing theturn a round of the Sox. They talked about how well the pitchers were performing and praised a few players but saved their best for Podsednik. One said, " I didn't like the trade at first because it doesn't matter how good you are at stealing bases, you know you can't steal first base." But they were both happy about Scott's bunting and hitting ability. He's made great fielding plays, disrupts the opposing pitcher's rhythmand team mates like him. They both agreed he was the KEY to this year's success.

Podsednik's 'Thank you' to fans
Dear Fans,
I want to personally thank everyone -- my friends, my family, White Sox fans, baseball fans in general, the Chicago White Sox organization and, of course, my teammates -- for showing their support for me during the past three days of online voting for the final spot on the American League All-Star Team.
The response has been amazing and humbling. Being named to the All-Star Team is a dream every 10-year-old enjoys when growing up playing baseball. Thanks to your votes, I will have the opportunity to fulfill those dreams on Tuesday night in Detroit at Major League Baseball's 76th All-Star Game.
It will be an experience I will never forget.

It said in the Chicago Tribune Carl Crawford questioned the Sox method that used players votes.
"I don't know how that's going to go over with the players, campaigning like that. It's a little bush league, probably."
He finished 5th in the voting.
I liked how the team rallied to support their teammate, myself. Although, players and managers vote for gold glove winners. But I like how the team stuck together, probably why they are in 1st, and Crawford team is 22 games out-last in the division.

deserves to be here with out a shadow of a doubt.On a final
note,hopefully he can continue to show american fans what
a special player he is.Both in the All Star Game and in
the playoffs.That is the best thing about him going to
the Chicago White Sox.He will get to play in the post
season and maybe make the World Series.Imagine how much
pressure he would put of the opposing team.On prime time
tv,I love it.It will be interesting to see how many
consecutive years he can lead the league in steals.Just

Well, there is a lot of baseball left to play. I wouldn't say the Sox are automatic to make the playoffs. Especially, after watching them the past 3 days. The Oakland A's are like kryptonite to them, hehe. I think winning the final spot for the All-Star game boosted his confidence. He's been really hitting the ball well since that span. He is currently on pace to get 88 stolen bases. He has no triples this year, but Cellular field is not much of a triples park. He had 12 homeruns last year and 9 before that. He has really fine tuned himself into a real leadoff hitter. Why swing for the fences when you can steal 2nd and 3rd? Besides, the numbers really don't matter because he has come up big in so many games. A lot of credit to the Sox success is due to him and the 2nd hitter Tadahito Iguchi.
Oh, I was watching the A's game today and that Bobby Crosby is helluva shortstop. He has some range on him, watched him make some great plays.

He said in the newspaper today he rather have a higher OBP than a higher AVG. His priority is to get on base and get in position to score runs. He's better than what the stats suggest because the white sox won so many 1 run games. And that is because he stole a base or got a bunt single.

Pods has been in really big slump stealing bases & batting. He's already been thrown out 18 times in 72 attempts. I'm kinda worried because he's been getting thrown out almost everytime. His SB% is only over 50% since the All-Star break. Plus, he has dropped to a 280 avg in almost 2 weeks.
The new Sports Illustrated (8/15/05) actually has an article on Podsednik -- "Stealing the Show -- Bedeviling opponents on the base paths, fleet leadoff man Scott Podsednik has the White Sox racing toward their first World Series in 46 years."

NIce piece on the Pod in SI. He is on the cover too but you may need a microscope. SI at times is a good magazine. In my opinion they have covered Lance Armstrong in depth over the years and it is still the best sports magazine then again what else is out there? I have been critical of them in many areas but it still features some good writing and great pics. They still need a lot of work in certain areas though.

Podsednik returned Monday. I'm not sure if he lost any ground in the lead for stolen bases.

Before his injury, he was being picked-off left and right. He missed almost an entire month due to injury. It's only been 19 days since he was activated from his injury. Not only that, but Ozzie has been sitting him. I guess they don't think he hits off of lefties. The White Sox just have been playing bad ball all around, and is probably effecting his play quite a bit.
Hats off to the Indians team for the way they been playing. They have a good shot at over taking the Sox in the central. Some part of me hopes they do, the way Ozzie manages this team, I am more than fed-up with watching them. What manager plays their back-ups in a big series? lol
I wouldn't be surprised if Mark Buehrle has arm probelms after this season. He kinda looks like Mike Sirotka the year his arm went kaput. It's funny Ozzie says he wants to have his team rested, yet he never rests his starters. They have a rookie who last 2 starts were shutouts, yet he was sent to the bullpen. However, we'll play Orlando Hernandez who has tanked all season. pfft!
