Hey guys. Joe Alexander has a chance to participate in the 2009 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He needs your votes to be added to it. He is one of 3 guys being considered for the last entrant. Here is a video with him doing some dunks and he is asking for the fans votes. He even hits his head on the rim with ease in practice. Joe says that he can win it as he believes he is the best dunker period! Let's help get him to the contest. Here is the link to the video and make sure you guys vote.

I just voted for Joe. I hope he turns into a great NBA player as well. We all know Joe can jump out of the gym (a 40 inch vertical). He also has a sprinter like burst in his step; he's one of 5 guys to run a sub three second 3/4 court sprint in the last 5 years and all the other 4 guys were Guards. Joe has a chance to really prove their are white athletic freaks too to the DWFs!

Unfortunately, Joe Alexander wasn't chosen for the Slam Dunk contest.

He is averaging only 4 ppg so far this season in limited playing time.

I thought he would've benefited from another year at WVU, but maybe he saw the writing on the wall about Bob Huggins longing for a nearly all-black roster like he had year-after-year at Cincinnati. After Alex Ruoff leaves following this season, the transition will be almost complete from Beilein's diverse squads that could shoot the basketball, to Huggins' thug ball.

Anyway, good luck and have a long, successful NBA career, Joe Alexander!

Did Rudy Fernandez make it? I can't find the information online of who is the 4th contestant. He is very athletic and a white Spaniard too.

Check out Rudy's clip.

He can make a great case also. I would love for Joe to make it but I wouldn't mind seeing Rudy go if he didn't. Even african-american Russell Westbrook (the 3rd of the 3 picks) is good dunker. But I like what Rudy said in his video in Spanish "To dunk on someone is a feeling of superiority". THAT is the mentality our young warriors should have.

Sorry, guys, I screwed up. I misread some of the info from the link and thought the voting was finished.

I started from nba.com, found the proper link, and voted for Joe Alexander.

ah crap. Rudy and Joe Alexander will split the white vote and Westbrook will Obama (win 99.999% of) the black vote.

maybe all the W. Virginia Hillary supporters will put Joe Alexander over the top!

although it should be an interesting contest no matter who the fourth contestant is.

I remember when Chris Anderson of the nuggets was in the competition a few years back. God that was an embarrassment. I actually turned thechannelbecaues I couldn't standChris making such a fool of himself. I hope Joe wins the vote but doesn't crack under pressure like Anderson did.

What is this supposed to mean? WV supported John McCain, but all this is irrelevant on a thread about Joe Alexander.

If there isn't a white player in the competition, I could care less about it. I already know there are many top-notch black dunkers. I want to see white athleticism on display-as we've seen it before in the likes of Tom Chambers, Rex Chapman, Brent Barry and others.

remember in the primaries that WV voted for Hillary over Obama. ... need those voters.

hey, there are two white guys and a black guy. the blacks will vote for the black guy in the dunk contest along with a few whites and then the white guys could split the rest of the white vote. ... just like in political races.

... just sayin'

Let's just help get Joe in. Vote every day and tell your family & friends to vote. I am still mad that he hardly plays. I thought the Bucks would give him at least 15-20 minutes a game. Hopefully he will play more soon. His athletecism is off the charts. I will only watch the contest in Joe Alexander is in it. I'm so tired of all the stupid, racist stereotypes that white men can't jump. What a crock of sh**!

Why only 4 participants in the Slam Dunk Contest?
smiley18.gif

I think there should be at least 6 participants!

It would be nice to see Rudy Fernandez and Joe Alexander in the Slam Dunk contest together. Also, Dirk, Nash, Gasol, Calderon, Turkoglu, and Ilgauskas should be able to make the All-Star game.

I agree with what </span>white lightning</span> </span></span>said, "I'm so tired of all the stupid, racist stereotypes that white men can't jump," and I'm so of white players not making the All-Star game!

I'd say David Lee over Ilgauskas, but David Lee wasn't even listed under the East Center vote. That's a complete crock. Dwight Howard and David Lee are the best Centers in the east!

Whites don't score as much because they have the tendency to pass more which hurts their all-star vote. Ginobili could definitely have been an all-star already if he shot more like Duncan and Parker.

I voted for David Lee "as a write in candidate" for East Center (I voted for Dwight Howard the first time b/c I didn't know how to do a write-in at first), Nash, Dirk, Gasol and Ginobili in the West. All the rest of my vote were black guys; except Yao Ming!

I should have voted for Calderon. I voted for Wade and Paul Peirce last time as my East Guards, but Wade is not a true PG. Calderon has little chance of making it anyway though so it would probably be a lost cause anyway, but I am going to vote again and vote for Calderon this time!

Yeah, I try to actually vote for who I think deserves to make it and Calderon would be borderline for the East IMO since you can only vote for your top 5. But if it's close I always vote for the white player b/c white players seem to unfairly lose votes in the popularity contests and I root for the underdog. I figured Calderon had no chance though anyway.

Also we must note; whites can be very efficient and most instrumental to their teams success, but don't shoot as much (ie. David Lee). Black players like Stephon Marbury who used to chuck up shots didn't deserve all-star votes, but he got them b/c he was among the leaders in scoring.

Marbury is the most blatant example of a formerly overrated black player, but there are surely other inefficient players who have gotten accolades in the past, but actually hurt their team.

I don't like the score first PGs. Jarret Jack, Mo Williams and maybe Jamal Crawford (when he plays PG) are other examples. Hopefully Jamal will pass to Marco Belinelli in Golden State, who is playing awesome right now, when he's open. Marco had another great game tonight in a GS win over Toronto.

The only reason why Calderon's All-Star chances are very small is because of Iverson going back East.

Jason Kidd went West, which further diminishes Steve Nash's chance of making the cut due to the brilliant plays of Deron Williams and Chris Paul.
smiley7.gif

Steve is a 2-time MVP for heaven sakes! When was the last time a 2-time MVP was snubbed for the All-Star game? I have seen several black MVP players continue making the All-Star game despite advancing age and declining numbers. Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Michael Jordan are some notable examples. Tim Duncan also!
smiley7.gif

Magic Johnson made the All-Star game in 1992, despite not playing a single game in that season, and I respect him for that. Steve Nash is 34 going 35 years old, and his numbers this season are not great compared to the previous 4 years, so what?
smiley7.gif

Steve Nash might not make the All-Star cut, despite being a 2-time MVP, just because he is simply WHITE.

Dirk Nowitzki will make the All-Star game because he is averaging 26 points a game.

Nash lacks and never will get the recognition he truly deserves, I feel very sad for him.

I am still voting every day for the All-Stars and the dunk competition. 17 days left to make a difference with your vote. There is a article on NBA.com today about how Dirk is not getting enough attention for the voters despite his phenominal numbers and hot streak he is on for nearly two months now.

You guys have today and tommorrow still to vote for Joe in the slam dunk competition and a little more than a week to vote for the all-stars. Joe was featured in a interview today on ESPN about his dunking prowess. He said if he gets voted in , he will win it and that he was the only competition for Dwight Howard. Unusual trash talk from a white guy and a rookie white guy at that.
