Two Americans, Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish, have made it to the quarterfinal.Edited by: nevada

I would love to see either one of them break through and win it all. Federer is vulnerable and Nadal hasn't done to well at the Open in the past.

In what seems the least covered US Open ever, with nobody here even interested, Roger Federer will play Novak Djokovic to see who gets to the final.

Rafael Nadal takes on Andy Murray for the other spot.

I wonder if another attendance record was set this year. The US sports media has quite a strange agenda, which now seems to extend to barely covering the lone US major despite it being at near all-time popularity.

Between work and the beginning of the NFL season I haven't done anything more than scan articles on what's taking place. Haven't watched any of it yet but will try to tomorrow and Sunday.

I agree. I think it's just bad timing. Too much football to be watched I'm afraid. I will keep an eye out for Federer on my TV though.

Fed through to the final. Andy Murray giving Nadal fits...up TWO sets!

The Brit upends Rafa! Will face Fed in the final.

Williams in the women's final tonight.

Apparently Murray owns a 2-1 record against Federer. Edited by: Poacher

Roger Federer is the US Open champion. This is 5 US Open titles in a row for Federer, and 13 major titles, putting him only 1 major behind Pete Sampras, the career leader with 14.

Great tourny for Federer. He was hitting everything.

Can't wait for Australia.

5 titles in a row is unbelievable. Also this has been an off year for him, he would have at least tied the record if he had been in form this year.....

I hope we see more of the Englishman/Scotch Andy Murray in the finals of future Grand Slams. He took out Nadal fairly easily in the semifinals. He should have twice the career fellow Brit Tim Henman had because he has twice the talent. If he wins Wimbledon one year they will name more than a hill after him(Henman Hill).

13 Grand slams--remarkable achievement--btw I watched a lot of the US Open as usual and was gratifying to see the Fed man win another one. Murray is one to watch .

good news--and his greatness pushes Serena williams in the background. too bad about Jelena--the match was pretty close though.

Hope the Belgian Babes return.

Bump

That time of year again. Gonna be interesting to see how Nadal plays. Fed looked really good in Cincy.

The commentators on ESPN just assured us that the Williams sisters would NEVER engage in gamesmanship.

that doesn't compute.

17 year old Melanie Oudin from the US upset 4th seed Elena Dementieva. I figured Dementieva had the best shot to make the finals from her side of the draw based on recent play. Oudin now plays the winner of the Sharapova and Christina McHale, another 17 year old American, to be played tonight. I like what I see from Oudin, not to say she is the next Henin because it will be along time before someone has a backhand like hers, but she has some qualities comparable to Justine.

This news made my day. The two Belgians could always take it the Williams sisters, unlike the current crop of mentally weak players. In addition to having all the skills, Clijsters and Henin have never been afraid of them. The mental edge is a very critical element when dealing with the Williamses.

Now, if someone, anyone can knock-off Serena, that will truly be the icing on the cake. Sadly, she has destroyed her opponents so far, and it will be tough challenge.

Pam Shriver hints at racism

I just heard Shriver on ESPN say she's not comfortable with an American crowd cheering for Clijsters against Venus on Sunday. Brad Gilbert said it was a feel-good story with Clijsters coming back and being a mother, etc. Shriver, sitting next to Mike Tirico, probably gained some SWPL brownie points by saying it wouldn't happen at any other grand slam. Clearly, she's hinting that the fans didn't want Venus because she's black.

Maybe if the Williams sisters and their bigoted father came off like every day people and were not so full of themselves then maybe they would be more popular with the American tennis fan. They shove their blackness in our face and that's why they are largely not liked. Take American James Blake, he is likeable and always has a huge cheering section at the Open even though he is pretty much a underachiever at this point in his career.

I'm watching the match between Nadal and Monfils right now, and Nadal is destroying the black Frenchman. The DWFs are clearly rooting for Monfils, as his points/winners are getting more cheers. The announcers are also making all sorts of excuses for Monfils' poor play. The truth is, Rafa is a better player in every aspect, and is imposing his will on him.

They even put up a stupid poll where some 70% (or whatever) concluded that Monfils would make a better football player. The brainwashed American sports fans are nothing but an absolute embarrassment.

Nadal would likely be a DB in the NFL (safety, of course, because he wouldn't be allowed to play CB), if he were born in America. In fact, some NFL player said he patted him on the back once and never felt a back that strong, even in the NFL.

What kind of a stupid poll is that? If two white guys were playing, no such poll would come up. Monfils is black and so automatically great athleticism and the abillty to play multiple sports is assumed.
