UFC on Fuel TV: Barao vs. McDonald

Apparently McDonald knows he's going to lose, that's never good to hear. Barao should be forced to move up to 145 and fight Aldo.

On the plus side Diabate and Grispi most likely will be cut.

The judges will probably give both of those rounds to Barao.

Florian is right. MacDonald is just countering and head-hunting. I have him down 3-0. Needs a KO now.

On the plus side, he did hurt Barao a few times already.

They are on two different skill levels. Barao has been doing this since he was 4 and McDonald hasn't been doing MMA full time until last year. For a long time McDonald worked a full time job and was doing MMA on the side while he was in the UFC.

McDonald just not on Barao's level yet. He is only 21 I think, so he can develop. But he needs a more varied game.

McDonald will get another shot soon enough. He's fast, powerful and has a granite chin he should become champion.

Barao didn't accomplish anything with his takedowns the first 3 rounds, nothing at all. McDonald was getting the better of the standup the first 2 maybe 3 rounds. The skill difference isn't a big gulf.

Just to give you an idea about how different there gyms are. Barao trains at Nova Uniao with Aldo, Torres, Marlon Sandro, Victor Riberio, Hacran Dias, Luis Ramos, Wagney Fabiano, and Eduardo Dantes. While Mike McDonald trains at Last Stand Fight Team (I've never heard of them) with nobody. This alone garantees you have no chance of winning the fight if you don't have the proper coaching and training.
I once went to a gym were the instructor was a 21 year old kid claiming to be a BJJ black belt, I spared with him and put him in a crucifix with 30 seconds, and then the kid wanted to charge me after he proved he wasn't skilled enough to teach me.

There are plenty of guys outside MMA with better BJJ than any of the guys that fought today, those guys however are smart enough to realize they have no chance of suceeding in MMA because they aren't well rounded. I'm kind of hoping now that wrestling is no longer an Olympic event that wrestlers will transition to MMA. I'd love to see Coleman Scott, Jake Varner, Jake Reader, and Jake Herbert all in MMA.
