The problem is getting Machida to the ground ...

I doubt Lyoto is as good a grappler as Fedor but he doesn't have to be. He wins fights on his feet and it is hard to take him down (and he has a black belt in BJJ if you do).

Everyone is human and can be beat. But I predict a long, successful run at 205 for The Dragon.

I agree.

This may sound totally idiotic, but I view Machida as Chuck Lidell version 2.0-- the basic formula is still intact, but there has been enough changes that not many people see that the original prototype is still there.

You're right, it does sound idiotic lol. Sorry to bust on you man but Machida is nothing like Liddell. Their fighting styles are poles apart, just like Chuck's hands when he starts banging. When was the last time you saw Chuck Liddell use a foot sweep or parry a punch? Or throw a high kick followed by combinations?

Chuck made hay because he punched hard and had a great chin, along with great takedown defense. Now that he seems to be prone to getting knocked out, I doubt you'll see him win very many more fights at all, if any, unless the UFC feeds him nothing but cans. And even then he could be in real danger.

Rashad has to be one of the fastest guys in the light heavyweight division, and Machida left him whiffing air just like he does everybody else. He probably landed three punches on Lyoto the entire fight during one exchange and that's it. He spent the majority of the fight wiggling and jiggling when he wasn't being chased around the cage and beaten down by Machida. And Rashad knocked out Liddell with one punch. Cold.

Machida and Liddell are nothing alike, except perhaps that they both have two arms and two legs.

so who gets the first title shot? looks like the black on black crime rampage spoke of will take place on december 9th when rampage takes on rashad, so that takes rampage out of the equation for the time being. with forrest fighting at 101 against silva that could take him out of the mix as well, especially if he loses. the only logical choice seems to be shogun. that is unless white wants to wait until after 101 and give the winner a title shot. I could see white trying to set up silva to fight for the belt.

im curious to see who is first to fight him. shogun, silva, and rampage would each be very intriuging matchups.

They offered the next title shot to Rampage first, but he turned the fight down because he wants to fight Rashad; 'it's personal.' LOL Whatever man, Rampage just doesn't want to be embarrassed by Lyoto, either.

Their next choice is Shogun, who has agreed to take the fight

Rashad admitted in an interview that he was talking s*** to Machida right before he was KO'd: "Man, you hit like a - ," and he was out. He said that he was conscious lying on the floor of the octagon. He noticed that he couldn't move his body, said he heard himself snoring and realized he was KO'd; that he had lost the fight.

Hopefully Rashad learns a lesson from that. Ask Thiago Alves if Machida has nothing on his punches.
