Exaggeration of Sports Performance of Neg*os Evaluation
90-100: Rare Prospect:
Player demonstrates rare abilities and can create mismatches that have an obvious impact on the game. Is a player that has all the skills to take over a game and could be an impact player as a true freshman.
80-89: Outstanding Prospect
Player has the ability to create mismatches against most opponents and could contribute as a true freshman.
70-79: Good Prospect
Player does not dominate in every game, especially when matched up against the top players in the country. Could become a good starter at the Division I level.
60-69: Solid Prospect
This player is overmatched against the better players in the nation. His weaknesses will be exposed against top competition. Has the ability to develop into a solid contributor at the Division I level.
All you guys have got to watch Gaffney's highlight film. He is truly amazing. I found it interesting that ESPN's highlight film was not nearly as impressive as his own on Youtube. Could they be doing this to hide his talent to protect their BS rankings? The below evaluation by ESPN is a complete fabrication:
------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------
Scouts INC. Grade: #76 RB Overall (2nd white RB behind Brandon Wegher who's ranked at #32), Prospect Numerical rank: 77 (Good Prospect)
Gaffney is a load of a back at the high school level with a good blend of size, speed and determination as an in-line runner. He is tall, thickly-built but does a job of running with proper shoulder lean and body-tilt. Shows deceptive lateral quickness and burst bouncing it outside and turning the corner but most production stems off tough, explosive, between the tackles runs. Hits the hole with good urgency and is quick to square up his shoulders out of his initial cut and head north south. Generates good speed and power quickly allowing him to run through arm tackles and bounce out of traffic; this kid finishes runs. Possesses a thick and powerful upper- and lower- body and runs low to the ground with great leg drive; difficult to wrap him up solidly. However, he currently lacks the vision, suddenness and feel for the cutback lane to project well as zone runner at the next level. Struggles picking and sliding through traffic, slipping through the small creases and making something out of nothing. A true north-south back that could continue to develop the size and strength necessary to wear down a defense as a college runner and occasionally break off a long run with his good top-end speed. Overall, Gaffney could be productive in the right downhill, power running system or potentially make a slide down to fullback or over to defense as an outside linebacker with his great size to speed measurables. Great athlete for his size and should be an asset on special teams as well.
- ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------
My Evaluation:
Top 5 RB Overall: Prospect Numerical Rank: 88 (Outstanding Prospect) (By Comparison #2 RB overall Bryce Brown has a numerical rank of 88 on ESPN and their #1 RB Trent Richardson is a 91; I think Gaffney is hair behind Richardson, but a virtually identical Grade to Cierre Wood, Brandon Wegher and Bryce Brown as a prospect).
Film Breakdown: Gaffney is a load of a back at 6 feet, 215 pounds; who will have a great blend of size, speed, agility and outright determination as a runner at any level he plays. He is thickly built and does a great job of running with shoulder lean and body-tilt. On top of having great one cut and go skills with his burst to get north-south, this kid displays numerous types of ways to get yards; he is truly multi-dimensional. He shows "phenomenal" lateral quickness especially for such a big back. He possesses impressive 4.44 speed in the 40 yard dash and loses very little in transition when making a cut in the second level. On top of having 4.44 speed; you can see how unbelievably quick this kid can reach top speed for such a big back. You will see this kid run like a bull to fall forward quite often to get the tough yards when there is simply no cutback lane at all there. This will aid him at the DI level to produce big yards per carry or aid in his team's success when the blocking is truly lacking. However, this kid surprised me many times on highlight tape with his ability to slide through traffic and truly tight spaces and find a cut back lane when it seemed to be a broken play. He has basically no true weaknesses as a player and is a willing blocker too. The only thing you can maybe hold against Gaffney is that his competition in high-school, although solid, was not elite. Similar to Cierre Wood (also from Cali) as a prospect for the level he plays at and his running attributes.
Stats: Gaffney rushed for an amazing 2,880 yards on a whooping 9.7 YPC and 48 TDs against a decent Prep Competition level in California as a Senior; including 300+ total offensive yards in the State Championship game.
Edited the asterisks at top; so people will know it's not the N word and just part of a joke acronym.
