Twitter Accounts of Young White Athletes

As I and of course many others here do research hoping to uncover young white stars I have noticed many to most have their own twitter accounts. I noticed it last night on the twitter account of baseball player Ethan Vecrumba where he proudly displays on tape his blistering 6.34 60 yard dash. Folks that is out and out flying.

They usually put up positive press and publicize themselves which is understandable. Young aspiring athletes want to get noticed. It is a natural thing.

The other thing that has struck me the past couple of years is the pride they show in themselves when they do something good.

In fact if a young white player burns a 40 yard dash they don't miss a trick and put in on their twitter account front and central.

I like this trend. Unlike in the past where white athletes were often resigned to their "low athletic status" these kids are showing some pride in their athletic achievements. And many times you can sense they "understand" their underdog status because they are white and they want to flip caste thinking on it's head.

Often I see stuff about former underdogs like Tom Brady proving everyone wrong.

Does anyone else here notice this new trend and like me don't you think it is a good thing for budding white athletes to be proud of their athletic ability instead of taking a seat in the back and defer all athletic ability to black athletes?

Perhaps this development will help encourage more young white athletes to throw their hat into the ring ?

I think twitter, instagram and youtube are the best methods a white athlete can use to show off his athletecism. It is harder for the media & scouts to debunk
live videos of 4o yard dashes, vertical leaping and game footage. You have to get your name out there. I hope this trend continues and more and more athletes
use it to their advantage.

For athletic achievements I have no problem with this, but for social commentary or joking and prankster behaviour social media should be avoided at all costs.

Josh Allen had to grovel for a few days before the PC gods because of his commentary as a 12 year old??(I think, I know he was well under 18). Even the medias' favorite munchkin Murray had to back track on anti gay comments he made while in high school. I really don't think any minor should have a social media page without adult supervision for this and because of adults who could exploit these youths.

In the old days it was sophomoric humour in yearbooks that would surface when a person became famous or notorious, now it's this. One difference between Allen and the current PC drama with governor of Virginia is that the governor was an adult when he may or may not have posted in his university yearbook idiotic Halloween costume photos.

The answer is very complicated. As you probably know when we are discussing 40 or 60 yard dash times we have to recognize that the times are not pin perfect accurate. Professional Track and Field is the place to look for the best accuracy. Otherwise be a bit wary of "exact" times because there is no such thing.

For instance the NFL combine. If someone can figure that one out let me in on it. You figure they should adopt the Track and Field method with electronic measuring devices. While they do laser time the runs as far as I can tell, they also have countless people in the stands hand timing everyone. Often the number we see on the "electronic" board after a 40 yard dash is adjusted afterward to another number.

So if there is variance at an event in one place imagine how difficult it is to compare times from various locations and different surfaces?

I try as best as possible to get the best read on a situation. For example it is common knowledge that hand timed dashes are most always faster than laser timed runs. High School kids often boast about their 4.4 40 yard dash but in reality they are usually closer to an electronic run that would translate into a high 4.5 or low 4.6 40 yard dash.

You see this on NFL pro days where players routinely run better times on their pro days than they did at the combine. And often you see some blistering numbers from pro days and I have cautioned everyone here those numbers are usually inflated. A lot of schools have their players run on extra fast surfaces to go along with the faster hand timed runs.

Baseball 60 yard dash times are a sticky wicket. Often run on grass fields instead of a track right there you have a variance factor among different locations and fields. Not all grass fields are the same and some are more conducive to running faster times obviously since so many factors are involved including moisture and weather and wind if it is outside.

The biggest event for prospects in baseball is the Perfect Game event where the National event takes place in June. I believe they run on turf (Tropicana Field?) and the times are terribly exaggerated. Just this past year dual sport star RB Jerrion Ealy (you can guess his race by his name), who signed with Ole Miss today, was timed in the 60 yard dash at a blistering 6.13 seconds. The only white face in the top five placed second with a 6.22 60 (SS Connor Walsh). I think Walsh is attending MISS ST but will double check.

You can't take those times at face value. They are inflated just like so many of the pro day numbers from college football prospects.

Jump forward to another later event both Ealy and Walsh ran in called the Eastern Showcase and their times were different. This time Walsh beat Ealy by running the second fastest 60 at the event in 6.42. Ealy ran a 6.49. Another black player ran it in 6.41. At that same event both dual sport athletes John Rhys Plumlee and Jase Bowen ran it in 6.56. These are obviously more accurate times.

Now switch forward to the event that happened a couple of days ago called the Super 60. This is a prestigious event as well run by Prep Baseball who have their own website. Like the Eastern Showcase the 60 yard dash is timed electronically with a laser. But so is the Perfect Game event which goes to show how inaccurate things can get. But you get a general idea of who the fast players are despite the times being inflated.

It just so happens that Jase Bowen the WR committed to Michigan State was there and this time he ran a superb 6.47 60. And as I mentioned yesterday SS Oklahoma commit Connor Beichler was second running a 6.38. And then you have OF Indiana Ethan Vecrumba running a blistering 6.34 despite a slight tumble.

So based on the evidence in front of me and the event that timed the runners I am confident when I say Vecrumba has blazing speed. He even runs like Kirk Gibson who in my mind was the best RAW ATHLETE I have ever seen in my life. I am not saying he is Kirk Gibson or Mickey Mantle, maybe the greatest raw athlete of all time, but at 6'4 205 this youngster has some serious wheels and I will leave it at that.

[One other thing I would be remiss not to point out. Unlike the runners from the NFL combine and pro days, baseball 60 yard dash runners do not start in the down Track and Field position. They are standing up which obviously slows the time.]

You would think she would know better. She posts very little on her track endeavours of the last few years.

Yes this is what I am talking about she can scare off sponsors or get roasted for sophomoric humour. Either way your reputation gets dragged through the mud.
