TSN Finds Few Good White NFL Players

The Sporting News doesn't think there are many good white football players. The newest issue ranks the 100 best NFL players. Only 11 are white! This list issimilarto the annual Pro Bowl starting lineups, whichis selected by players, the media and fans, and which usually contains only two whites out of 22.


Peyton Manning is #1 Tom Brady is #2. But after that Whitey is few and far between:

#23 Brian Urlacher


#43 Alan Faneca


#46 Olin Kreutz


#53 Trent Green


#56 Drew Brees


#62 Steve Hutchinson


#87 Mike Wahle


#96 Marc Bulger


And that's it. All except Urlacher are either QB or o-linemen.

Its pretty sweet to have #1 and #2 spots locked up, but what do you expect from a magazine of this type. White players are not "flashy" enough to make the list. Wait until Greenway and Hawk are drafted into the NFL next year, both in the top 5 picks, this will start the revolution of whites into a lot more postions in the NFL.

JoeV, I hope you are right, but I think the "revolution" will take a lot more than that.

One or two white players occasionally breaking through are viewed as freaks, rare exceptions that only confirm the general rule of black supremacy.

But when a few dozen big I-A programs, either voluntarily or through compulsion, start recruiting and developing white stars, the ones who so often handily beat their black counterparts in high school matchups, then you'll know real change is finally beginning.

When the caste system really began to rear its ugly head in the mid to late eighties, Steve Largent held all of the recieving records and John Riggins was one of the most dominant backs in football. Still the caste system evolved. What will it take for it to reverse?

Totally agree, RW. It's those scholarships that we need so badly. The NFL will remain unattainable for most white players in the taboo positions so long as most of them are coming out of small schools, walk on's for Div. I schools, etc. There needs to be a widespread recruiting and signing of the best white high school talent at every position before things can change considerably at the NFL level. It's too late for most white players by the time they've graduated.

Of course I don't have an answer for KP. I know it will never happen, but it would be interesting to see what would happen if there was a really big lawsuit(s) against the NFL and/ or NCAA. Money talks. But I don't know if coaches will ever change their thinking. What can white players do on the field that will change their minds? Maybe nothing. Some sort of change off the field may be necessary.

JD; I think that last sentence makes a lot of sense. The only questions I have are how and when.

The problem is two-fold:



(1) Blacks mature physically about three (3) years earlier than
Whites. This is biological fact. Blacks thus have a certain
advantage in high school athletics. This is why I support
complete segregation of prep sports -- it simply isn't fair to have
White kids who are just beginning to develop on the same field with
completely physically mature blacks. (NOW, NOW...before anyone
leaps on this issue, I understand that this is a generalization and
that exceptions exists, there are great White high school teams,
etc. But I'm speaking in real terms, and, generally speaking, a
16 year old black will be far more developed that his White
counterpart). By the time the Whites have caught up, in a
biological sense, they have already been shut out of their opportunity
to compete.



(2) NCAA admission "standards" are a complete joke, designed only to
ensure that all but the most mentally impaired blacks are cleared to
play ball for college programs. Did you know that the sliding
scale allows an athlete with a 3.0 GPA to be admitted to most D-1
programs with a 680 on the SAT? No, that isn't a typo - Six
Hundred and Eighty. (The GPA requirement is a non-issue -- grade
inflation ensures that EVERYONE has at least a B-average).



Under the current scoring regime, a reasonably intelligent 8th grader
will score better than that. It's so sickening, the word
"qualified" should sue for defamation when it is used in connection
with those thugs that need to take the test multiple times to "get
qualified." It's almost like having to reach up to touch bottom.



The NFL would be more White if college programs would have
halfway-stringent admissions requirements for theie teams.
Failing that, the trend will continue.
