Trevor Bassitt- Division II to American Champ

it’s past time for Trevor Bassitt to have his own thread. the senior sprinter from Division II Ashland University was recognized for the sixth time as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II National Men's Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (March 2).

that’s not a surprise, considering what all he’s already accomplished this indoor season.

Bassitt's latest plaudits come as a result of his showings at the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. He was named the circuit's Track Athlete of the Year, Track Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet, following Bassitt earning GLIAC championships in the men's 60-meter dash, 200 dash, 60 hurdles and 4x400 relay.

the winning time in the men's 200 dash was 20.40 seconds, a new NCAA Division II indoor record; the men's 4x400 relay crossed the finish line in 3:08.23, the second-best time in D-II indoor history; and his 7.67 seconds in the men's 60 hurdles is third-best in D-II indoor annals.

(for reference, his time in the 200m is faster than every time ran in the qualifying heats of the NCAA Division I championships yesterday, including that of superstar Matthew Boling.)

earlier this year, Bassitt became only the second-ever collegiate athlete to win the US National Championship in the indoor 400m, winning in 45.75, which automatically qualified him for the World Championships later this spring. it is also the 8th-fastest time in the world this year.

not surprisingly, Bassitt holds the all-time Division II record in the 400m (45.27)

Trevor took 3rd in the 400m Hurdles at the World Championships, and also shared in the gold medal in the 4x400m relay, as he ran the anchor in the heats.
Great job from this youngster from a DII school, who has been training himself since his coach passed away.
That's hard work, dedication, and belief in oneself at work, along with a lot of talent.

Congrats to the bronze medal winner at the 2022 World Championships. Trevor Bassitt took 3rd place in his first major international championship. That is amazing and he will only get better from here!

Let's not forget that he also medalled internationally earlier this year.
First he won the US National Indoor 400m title, and then competed at the World Indoor Championships and came in 2nd for the silver medal.
So basically he's exploded onto the national and international stage this year.

There could be no better example of the white athlete coming into his prime two or three years later than the black athlete than Trevor Bassitt. In high school Bassitt's best time in the 100 was 11.10 and in college 10.54. His HS best in the 200 was 22.29 and in college 20.40 indoors and 20.52 outdoors. In HS he ran the 110 high hurdles (39") in 14.20 and in college 13.59 (42").

His range is outstanding I wonder why he was never coached to be a multi event athlete as it looks like he has stamina and decathlete level speed.

He will hit mid to high 46's next year with good coaching maybe even faster! Huge upside for this kid, he has a steel mentality and is highly highly competitive! Well done!
