The NFL Network had a new Top 10 show tonight, the "Top 10 Players Who Never Played in a Super Bowl." The list is:

1. Barry Sanders
2. Dan Fouts
3. Steve Largent
4. Eric Dickerson
5. Cris Carter
6. Dan Dierdorf
7. Ladanian Thompson
8. John Randle
9. Randall Cunningham
10. Sterling Sharpe

There are too many 1998 Vikings (Was Cunningham a great player?) and they seem to have wanted a Top 10 list to put Dierdorf on.

Notice how most of the White backs 70's forward given a decent role have played in a Superbowl. Csonka, only undefeated team. Bleier with the Steelers. Mark Van Eeghan (watching old tapes, they wasted his talent, most of his plays were quick fb dives). John Riggins. Craig James (people claim he was shut down in the Superbowl by the 85 Bears, but the starting qb is the only one in Superbowl history to not complete a pass, by the time they switched to the other qb they were in passing mode, he only got 5 carries). And Mike Alstott, although not a feature back, had more of a role than most "fullbacks". Even lesser talents like Hoge had some post season success, rushing for 100 yards back to back one year, only losing by one point. These guys were TEAM players, which is what many affletes forget, or simply don't care. Jim Taylor could have put up better numbers than Jim Brown if he was given more carries but at the end of the day, wins were more important, especially Championships.

Can you imagine what Largent would have done if he had traded places with Jerry Rice?
