This was a great fight 4 years ago. I recall cheering for Adamek really hard. Hope he wins again.

Adamek scaled 224 while the hard gainer Cunningham scaled 204. It should be a good fight, Adamek is a solid -350 at the online books.

TOMASZ ADAMEK vs STEVE CUNNINGHAM

If the rematch between Tomasz Adamek and Steve Cunningham is as good as the original, Saturday’s return of boxing to the NBC network will be a rousing success.

In the first fight, in the cruiserweight division four years ago, Adamek scored three knockdowns to take a hard-earned win by split decision. Now they meet as heavyweights in a scheduled 12-rounder. Last time Cunningham was favourite, this time Adamek is favoured at about -350.

Cunningham amazingly finished their first fight looking the stronger man, with Adamek appearing to be almost exhausted in the last round. Cunningham swept the last round on all three judges’ cards but he had lost too many points in the earlier rounds. In two of the knockdown rounds, Cunningham got caught right at the end of rounds, — the second and fourth — and these were rounds that Cunningham would likely have won if he hadn’t got dropped. In the fourth, in particular, Cunningham had dominated the round until the flooring.

Adamek will come into the rematch as the bigger, stronger fighter, weighing 223 pounds to Cunningham’s 203.5 pounds — a surprisingly light weight for Cunningham seeing that he weighed 207 pounds for his heavyweight debut three months ago.

We know that Adamek will be the puncher in the fight, and the Polish fighter definitely has the better chin. The crowd at the Sands casino hotel in Bethlehem, PA, will be solidly behind the very popular New Jersey-based Adamek even though Cunningham is from Philadelphia, about 60 miles from Bethlehem.

Also, Cunningham is coming into the fight as a substitute for Odlanier Solis.

So, on paper just about everything points to Adamek winning.

Still, I can see another competitive fight here. Cunningham has the speed advantage and I believe he has the better jab. It is possible for Cunningham to win rounds, but Cunningham backers will be on tenterhooks because of the chin factor — Cunningham has been dropped seven times in his last seven fights.

Last time, Cunningham went into the fight riding high after a tremendous, upset win over Marco Huck in Germany. Cunningham broke down Huck and stopped him in the last round, and he seemed to be trying too hard to stop Adamek.

Cunningham says that this time he will box a smarter fight. He told New Jersey boxing writer Keith Idec that he underestimated Adamek’s boxing ability and durability going into the first fight. “I messed around and got suckered into his fight because he was able to be hit and I was hitting him with some good shots and I felt he was going,†Cunningham said.

If Cunningham can stick to a clever-boxing, constantly moving style, using the jab, opening up in spurts and using his legs to get away, he can enjoy success. Adamek will be pressing forward throughout the fight, though, and when he closes the distance he is likely to be hurting Cunningham. What stood out to me in the first fight was that Adamek’s punches had so much more effect on Cunningham than vice versa, and this time Adamek will be the heavier man. Cunningham, though, will be faster and more athletic than the big men that Adamek has been meeting lately.

While both men are 36, Adamek might be the more ringworn. Adamek took heavy punishment in his loss to Vitali Klitschko in September 2011 and he struggled to beat Eddie Chambers last June even though Chambers fought from the opening round with an injury to his left biceps and was unable to use his left jab. While Adamek stopped Travis Walker in the fifth round in his last fight the Polish boxer suffered a heavy knockdown in the opening round and looked just two or three clean shots away from being stopped — but an over-anxious Walker couldn’t land the blows that might have finished the fight.

So, I do see Adamek as starting to look vulnerable. His weight advantage in tomorrow’s fight could be significant, though. I’m sure that Cunningham will be the faster man, and if he boxes a rigidly disciplined fight, doesn’t get caught by a heavy shot and doesn’t get involved in exchanges he could box his way to a win by decision. Those are three “ifsâ€, though, which make me back away from endorsing Cunningham to spring the surprise. Frankly, the weight disparity worries me. I had been expecting Cunningham to come in around the 208-pound mark. Really, we have a cruiserweight against a heavyweight in this fight — and we do have to consider Adamek a legitimate heavyweight seeing that he has been boxing in this division for three years.

I can picture Cunningham winning rounds and quite possibly going into an early lead on points, but sometimes Cunningham can be a bit too game for his own good and if he gets hit and hurt I think his instinct is to fire back — and a punch-for-punch type of fight will suit Adamek, who doesn’t want to be chasing his opponent around the ring for 12 rounds. If this fight develops into the same sort of war of attrition as the last one, I believe that, with a near-20-pounds weight advantage, Adamek is likely to prevail, quite possibly inside the distance.

It is on NBC Sports.

Twenty pounds is a big advantage. This will go our way again. Hope Tomasz can KO him this time.

Why is the Glazkov v Hamer fight only 8 rounds surely this is a contender level interim title fight that should be at least 10 rounds.Hamer is probably the best black American prospect atm and the 8 round distance suits him more.Glazkov could be robbed.

It's very possible.

Hamer attended a state college in the Bethlehem area, so he'll have a lot of support today.

In a 12 round fight, Glazkov would have a better chance of winning by stoppage. But Hamer is a runner and so will likely survive 8 rounds.

The NBC commentary won't be fair, with BJ Flores favoring Hamer and Cunningham, as he did Chambers in Adamek's last fight.

I agree with you, it should be 10 rounds.

Hamer has a "win" over the very decent Kevin Johnson, but lets remember that was only a 3 round fight because it was part of the UK tournament Prizefighter. Winning a 3 rounder is a bit "iffy" in my opinion. Let's also note that Hamer in fact lost a decision to Kelvin Price, who was recently KO'd early by Wilder. Not very becoming.

Glazkov, in my opinion, has the much better pro resume and especially so considering the amateurs, where he won a Bronze Medal at the Olympics. Glazkov is the more experienced, polished, and skilled fighter.

All things considered, in a fairly officiated fight I strongly like Glazkov's chances! :)

That being said, a robbery is never out of the question, and I would say that the judges almost always tend to favour black boxers in the USA.

Totally agreed... that's to be expected... Actually, I was sad to see Larry Merchant leave HBO the other week. He was one of the rare commentators that actually gave white fighters a fair shake. He was a supporter of the Klitschko Brothers and that earned a lot of points with me! His interviews were also hilarious!

I'm off work today and this fight is a great way to kick off the Christmas Holidays!

I will be watching the fight live on Canadian TV, its being shown on SN1 live at 4PM EST, for me thats channel 99, but what channel it is for others depends on their cable package.

Looking forward to watching these fights live this afternoon, I will be rooting big for Glazkov and Adamek! Adamek always gives an amazing fight and his last fight with Walker he displayed so much courage to get dropped then come back and win by TKO. What a warrior!

Lets Go Vyacheslav and Tomasz!

Hamer doesn't come out for the fifth round. He looked to still be in the fight, but Glazkov was starting to get to him, so Hamer, who holds a Bachelors in business, made a business decision.

Tor Hamer quits on national TV and refused to shake Glazkov's hand after the fight.

Hamer is no warrior.

I have Adamek up by 1 after 11. I think it comes down to this round. A good Adamek round should win it for him but it's a close fight.

Of course, I am very happy to see Tomasz win! This was a great fight, lots of action, very entertaining, and its nice that when boxing is on TV that the fights are entertaining. Sometimes you get boring fights and that's no good. This fight was very fun to watch.

I am extremely happy to see Tomasz win and I was fully supporting him to win the fight. Tomasz really has the heart of a champion, and he won the fight based on his efforts in rounds 11 and 12.

I have to be honest though, what really stole me on this card was Vyacheslav Glazkov. I was *extremely impressed* with him. Tor Hamer is a very decent opponent, and Glazkov absolutely outclassed him.

Hamer quit on his stool, which is a TKO win for Glazkov. Glazkov won rounds 3 and 4 big, and by round 4 he was just walking in and beating Hamer up. Those body shots and hooks were wearing Hamer down. Round 4 was totally one sided, and in another round or 2, you would have seen Hamer KO'd. In total, I scored the first round for Hamer, but rounds 2-4 were for Glazkov and he was progressively winning rounds by larger margins.

When a fighter quits on his stool, its the same thing as a TKO. It means that had the fight gone on, in another round or 2, Hamer would have been KO'd anyway. I really liked what I saw from Glazkov, this guy really looks amazing. I was expecting a decision win from him tonight, but this TKO win is even better.

Tremendous performance from Glazkov and I thought he stole the show tonight. Glazkov completely outclassed a very decent opponent in Hamer, and I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on Glazkov in all his fights from now on! Adamek put on a furious pace in the main event. Overall, 2 enjoyable fights :)

Cunningham gave Adamek problems the first fight at cruiserweight. Same thing here. Cunningham was able to use his reach advantage and speed advantage to land jabs. Adamek landed the heavier and better shots though. Cunningham came in at what 203lbs basically same as the cruiserweight fight. Adamek put on about 25lbs since his move up to heavyweight and came in at 223 for this fight. This gives him some more power but the weight was a handicap for him. He's a bit slower than at cruiserweight and he wasn't able to take advantage of his power against Cunningham.
