another great game by that young tight end... so far (just 5 mins into second half) he has 9 catches for 110 yards and 2 TDs! he is making Kyle Boller look like a real QB
smiley2.gif
his second TD catch came on a 27 yard pass where he lined up as a receiver, outrun a DB and wrestled the ball that wasn't very accurately thrown out of his hands, diving for a TD... great play...
he is getting close to his career best marks from 2002 (836 yards, 6 TDs, 13 catches over 20 yards), he has 803 yards, 6 TDs and 12 plays over 20 yards- and the game is not over yet!

I had the good fortune of watching him play at ASU and he was a stud. They just couldn't cover the guy.I have been waiting for him to hit full stride at the next level. He is on a mediocre team with a average qb.If he were on a team like the Broncos,he would be even better.
Good luck to him the rest of the season.

Staying healthy has been the key to Heap's success this season. In fact, all the top white TEs stayed healthy this season -- Heap, Shockey, Witten, Cooley, Heath Miller, etc.

Bradley looks like a pretty good rookie WR for Baltimore and Derrick Mason is a very good possession receiver. Heap could have a thousand yard season next year.

You can be sure that Heap will not get the attention that he did
tonight. If you review the game, Boller looked off Heap and only
tosed the ball to him as an after thought. In keep ing with the
best intent of Caste NFL , Heap will be Persona Non Grata next week.

well, i hope not... Boller does get him 4, 5 balls a game on the average...

on the side note both Heap and Jolley were in top 10 receivers of the week and Heap was the only one on the leaders list with 2 td catches...

Todd Heap set a Ravens' single-game postseason record with 10 receptions for 108 yards against the Chiefs in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Heap was Joe Flacco's go-to target on crossing routes, exploiting a matchup with rookie safety Eric Berry. He was money on third downs throughout the game. While Heap didn't score, he came close several times with a ball tipped away, an overthrow in the end zone, an illegal contact penalty, and a catch that set up Anquan Boldin's 5-yard TD. It's the fourth 100-yard performance of Heap's career and his first since 2005.

(PS, i am surprised rotoworld didn't blame McGraw for Heap's great performance!)

On the postgame show, I recall that Shannon Sharpe blamed McGraw.

Sharpe should have been sent to the glue factory long ago.

yeah, some analyst... he sees McGraw making a late tackle on Heap and automatically assumes it was him who missed an assignment... plus, he's a white guy playing safety so a perfect and convenient scapegoat. DWFs will lap it up.

Guys like Shannon Sharpe, Steven A Smiff, and Keyshawn Johnson are clear racists. Even some of the DWF's can see that. If they are going to keep pumping these affirmative action guys through at least pick someone like Tom Jackson, who is at least bearable.

analysis of Heap's rejuvenated play in 2010 from rotoworld:

Heap is the same age as Antonio Gates, and he proved in 2010 that he has plenty of game left. His 10-catch, 108-yard effort in the playoffs was one of the most impressive tight end games of the season"¦

Sad beyond words:

Former Ravens and Cardinals tight end Todd Heap has been involved in a fatal accident at his home in Mesa, Ariz., according to a spokesman with the Mesa Police Department.

Heap, 37, was moving his truck in his driveway on Friday afternoon when it accidentally struck his three-year-old daughter, according to police. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Heap was checked and there were no signs of impairment. Detectives are continuing the investigation, according to the spokesman.

Heap was a first-round draft pick in 2001 out of Arizona State. The two-time Pro Bowler had 499 receptions with 42 touchdowns in 10 seasons with the
Ravens and two with the Cardinals.

The
Ravens released the following statement on the matter: "We cannot imagine the heartbreak and sorrow Todd and Ashley's family feels right now. This is knee-buckling news and overwhelmingly sad tragedy.

"Our prayers, our thoughts and our hearts are with the Heaps, who have contributed so much to the
Ravens and Baltimore community.

"We believe their deep faith and tremendous support from friends and family will help them through this unimaginable time."

The
Cardinals added, "Our hearts go out to Todd, Ashley and the Heap family. It is a grief that is beyond words and one which no family should ever experience. Hopefully the prayers, love and support of their incredible group of friends and family provide them comfort that along with their strong faith will lead them through this unspeakably difficult time."

While a member of the
Ravens , Heap's charitable foundation raised money to help sick and disadvantaged children. The Todd Heap Family Pediatric Center at Baltimore's Franklin Square Hospital opened in 2010.

This tragedy happened to friends of my family 40+years ago but their son lived. Needless to say he was never the same again and died about 10 years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with Heap family.
