Tiger Woods blows cool in temper tantrum. I listened to a (soundedblack) caller on a talk show today who said helikes watching those little flare ups, they prove he'shuman and he addsexcitement to a boring unemotional sport.

AP Snip: Woods looked stunned as his caddie, Steve Williams, pleaded with the ball to slow down. But it kept going, drawing a gasp from the crowd before disappearing down a slope into the creek.

Things didn't get any better on a day when Woods tossed clubs, kicked his bag, and looked as frustrated as the Masters officials watching thunderstorms delay the first round by more than five hours.

The Tiger Channel aka The Golf Channel, was interviewing '98 Masters champ Mark O'Meara today during the long rain delay. O'Meara described the special champions only locker room that he was so proud to be a part of. The camera panned up to the second floor of the clubhouse where the past champions playing this week were all gathered outside their special area during the delay, sitting, standing, talking and joking around. All were there except one: His Royal Highness Tiger Woods. Apparently he feels the same way about interacting with his fellow pros as he does about interacting with the fans.

If anyone else had won I'd probably be checking out some of the Golf Channel's coverage tonight. But I'm sure it's non-stop Tiger glorifying, replete with beaming white announcers who can barely prevent themselves from weeping with joy. Right Winger is right, the name should be changed to The Tiger Channel.

Those guys seem to be acting as slaves for massa Tiger. It seems as though most media talking heads are enslaved to the caste system and serve every command of minorities and the diversity police.

I love the caption under the mandatory photograph of Tiger Woods found in ESPN's golf coverage today: "Tiger stayed cool under pressure to win his ninth major."

I guess I watched a different tournament. Woods had a horrible tee shot on 16, then bogied 17 and 18 with repeated bad shots. Only his miracle chip on 16 prevented one of the biggest chokes in a major of all time. I'll feel much better now next time I hack up a course with a string of bogies and doubles down the stretch, knowing at least that I "stayed cool under pressure"!

It's almost unbearable when Tiger Woods wins a major. The lame,
wanna-be comedians on ESPN simply cannot contain their joy. That's what
I hate most about it; not Tiger himself, because he actually handles
things pretty well, considering. I know he's a jerk in real life, but
how could we expect otherwise? This kid was force-fed golf from the
time he learned to walk, by a true pyscho- Dad who clearly dominated
every part of his life. Combined with the unprecedented media attention
and adulation, which began before he'd won a single major, and you have
created a real monster ego. Already, they are talking grand slam, which
they always do when he wins the Masters. When I watch golf now, it's
purely to root against Tiger Woods. I don't care who wins, as long as
it's not him.

Here's an example of the standard type of shoddy and deceptive "journalism" practiced by the corporate media:

http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=2036594

"Once again, Tiger Woods is the victim of his own success.

"It is not enough for him to simply win, he must do so convincingly. A playoff victory with some shaky swings down the stretch somehow leaves questions. A ninth major title is considered routine unless it is accomplished like other more dominant performances.

<DIV style="WIDTH: 275px">
<DIV =photocred2>AP Photo/Morry Gash
<DIV =photosubtext>Woods still gets criticized when he wins events by small margins.

"The fact that there could be even a hint of doubt in the aftermath of Woods' historic fourth Masters triumph on Sunday at Augusta National again points to the incredible, mind-numbing standard Woods has set.

"If he doesn't win by 12 shots, as he did in his first Masters victory in 1997 - or by 15 as he did at the 2000 U.S. Open, or by eight as he did at the 2000 British Open - there must be something wrong.

"No other player endures that kind of scrutiny."

_______________________

The writer sets out his argument -- Tiger Woods is being criticized because he did not win the Masters by a large margin, and "no other player endures that kind of scrutiny." But what's missing here? He does not cite one example of the "criticism" Woods is receiving and "enduring."

As for Woods' "incredible, mind-numbing standards," if they ever existed, who was still using them after a three-year run without winning any majors at all much less by runaway margins? A reporter for a high school newspaper would be held to much higher levels of accountability than this piece of nonsense. But because it's about Tiger, the most absurd and unverifiable claims can be asserted without being backed up by that pesky thing known as "facts."

I hate seeing that happen too Don. People never give examples of what bad is being done to people or how to fix it. Take liberals for instance. They blame conservatives for everything and always say they can make it better, but they never say how, not once. It's because they know their ideas can't win when exposed to the light of day and ideological debate. It's not much different with these sports"writers" who claim totally unsubstanitiated "facts" and report them as truth. They must think we're really dumb, and what is so sad is that some of us are.

Why do get the feeling that if it had been a WHITE golfer who won like tiger did you would be calling him a God . But since Tiger did he was just ''lucky'' right ?. And you seek to lecture others about double standards ?.

Yeah, that's right, if DiMarco had won I would have called him a "God." Just like we routinely refer to Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and other white golfers as "Gods" here on this site.

You probably have an attention span of under 10 seconds, so to save you the trauma ofattempting to readthe entire thread here's what I posted about the best Asian golfer in the world earlier, before the Masters:

"There's no question Woods is ruthless. I'll give him credit, he's the best grinder I've ever seen. He can still win even when he doesn't have his best game going, the '02 Masters being the best example. He is extremely tough mentally."

He found a way toprevail inthe '05 Masters just like he did the '02 tournament. But he came very close to crumbling under pressure down the stretch. He is mentally tough but in the last round this year he didn't stay "cool under pressure" on 16, 17 and 18, unless your idea of "staying cool under pressure" is to hit wayward tee shots and score bogies. That was the point of my post, but since nuance does not appear to be one of your strong points I'm sure it will be lost on you.

Don, your reference to Woods being an Asian golfer is more correct than saying he is black. We've discussed his lineage and he does have a greater percentage of Asian DNA then any other group. I just wonder if the media hype would have been as great if he was labeled as an Asian from the get-go?

Yes i did read your thread and i have read other threads

But TIGER DID"NT CRUMBLE THATS THE POINT.

DiMarco did crumble

The sign of a true champion is th e ability to win when the sky starts to rain sh*t !.

How many Majors has Dimarco won ?

Almost aint enough.

And even if Tiger had Dominated from the start you would be harping on his ''cold'' personality ?

Does'nt matter what Tiger does you will always only grudgingly give him credit and go out of your way to find fault.

So now not only did Tiger stay "cool under pressure" but additionally DiMarco "crumbled." DiMarco was three back starting the back nine; at that point I would imagine the media (and you) would have given billion to one odds that DiMarco could catch Woods, yet that is what he did. He far from crumbled and what does how many majors he's won have to do with it? He's onlywon two tournaments period, yet caught and nearly beat Woods. No one here has called him a star.

Woods played a great playoff hole. His talent came through brilliantly there. But he did not stay "cool under pressure" down the stretch. If he had lost it would have been one of the all-time worst chokes in a major.

Asian and hispanic athletes receive less publicity than black ones, butgenerally more than whites. But in golf a topnotch non-white male golfer is so rare that if Tiger was all-Oriental he still would have gotten a considerable amount of media worship. On the ladies tour, Annika Sorenstam has always been underpublicized. Michelle Wie is already as well known as Annika. Part of that is because Sorenstam isn't American, but we know the main reason.

Annika is absolutely sensational. Fans of the game know of her accomplishments but the average American probably has heard Michelle Wie's name more often. Can you imagine the stir if Sorenstam was Caublinasian?

Annika is going for an all-time record sixth straight win this week, but it sure isn't getting much coverage, nothing like when Nancy Lopez put together her winning streak. One of my local paper's golf column today leads off not with Annika but with this headline -- "What if Michelle Wie Plays in the British Open?"

I can't speak for Don, but that's what I do! Sports is "us vs.
them." We're free to like and dislike whoever we want.
Political Correctness dictates that white people can't prefer
white athletes (although it's okay for everyone else to prefer
their own race,) but this isn't a politically correct site!

I agree, in spades!!!! When I first read JD's post I thought the same thing as him. Of course we don't like Tiger here! How could we? He's so overhyped it's unbelievable. I notice that other people are starting to feel the same way. My totally PC father-in-law, a former Tiger lover, is getting Tiger weary too. About time!

Liking your own race is one thing denying a man his talent and will to win just because he is of a different race is another.

That is the hypocrisy of this site talking about White athletes being ''unfairly'' criticized.

BULL. No one denies Tigers "will to win" we have even commented on how focused he is. There is no hypocrisy here, we don't worry about whites being unfairly criticized (although we do comment on it) we worry about them being unfairly treated. Which is a much different thing.

Tiger didn't make the cut.He has only shown brief flashes
of the player he was several years ago.Tiger is too
young to struggle like this.Phil Micklelson needs to
step it up.
