Yippee! The World Series is here...and the silence is deafening from the rest of the CF crowd.

I guess there has to be a 2009 World Series thread, though. So here it is and maybe we'll get more responses on CF in the next week than people watching the games outside the NY and Philly metro areas.

Is Joe Girardi mixed? His ears look like classic negro ears.

EDIT: He's supposedly all-Italian, but he sure does have an ethnic look.

IMO, game 1 scored fairly well on the "caste busting index" for a sports event.

- Cliff Lee outduels Sabathia
- Lee pitches a complete game while exuding confidence
- Lee displays skill and cool in two good fielding plays
- Utley homers twice
- Werth gets a hit

Late in the game, I left the TV room for a few moments while the Phillies were at bat and thought I heard a commentator mention that a player (Jayson Werth ?) had stolen 20 bases and might be the best overall athlete on the team. Did anyone hear this?

I heard this, and it would be tough for anyone to disagree. Werth has incredible power and speed, that speed translating into outfield range and skill on the basepaths. He came up as a centerfielder after being moved from catcher! That should give a pretty good indication of his athletic ability.

Cliff Lee pitches another postseason CG gem and Chase Utley hits two HRs off of C.C. Sabathia!

I hope the Phillies can wrap this up in no more than 5 games. I wouldn't count on it, but I just can't stand the Yankees.

I got a kick out of two whites being the stars of Game One. I don't think there has been a better pitcher in baseball the last two years than Cliff Lee. The Indians fans in my neck of the woods were complaining about the two World Series starters being ex -Indians Sabathia and Lee.

Nick Swisher is not supposed to be in the starting lineup tonight. He hasn't hit well at all in the postseason, but I hate to see him out of the lineup after being such a key piece for the Yankees in the regular season.

What in the hell is this rap crap on the field before the start of tonight's game?

I think I'll do something else and just check out the boxscore in a few hours.

He doesn't look it to me. Torre looks"blacker" to me and Tirico makes even Namath look like pale blonde....

Game three was another good night for our guys both in performance and perception:

- 2 home runs hit by Jayson Werth
- absolutely perfect bunt for a base hit by Cole Hamels with two men on base
- After being "Yanked" from the starting lineup a game or two ago, Nick Swisher returns to RF and contributes two hits including a homer
- Good game by Andy Pettitte

The best part of the broadcast was the overall recognition of Jayson Werth as a top athlete which included a mini interview of Werth's teammate, Hamels who praised Werth's athleticism. More noteworthy was the lauding of Werth by the announcers who also stated that Werth's mother had been a track star in college and that other relatives had been successful in sports. Television announcers making the point, fairly explicitly, that a white player can attribute his athleticism to natural ability and genetics!

Girardi's ears look like Ross Perot's.

Yeah Jason Werth is the man! Great player. He is going to be good for a long time.

As for Girardi I don't think he is human, let alone white. That is one ugly son-of-a-gun. He scares me when they do a close up on him.

If Joe Girardi was a mulatto, it would have already been a special report on ESPN and inside the NY Daily News and NY Post newspapers. Girardi has a complexion not unlike Joe Torre and Vince Lombardi. I'm not sure if he's of Sicilian descent but it's very likely he is of southern Italian descent.

Johnny Damon sparked the Yankees with a base hit with two out in the bottom of the ninth! He stole second and since the Phillies were shifted over to the left side of the infield, he popped up and proceded to third with no Phillies around!! God i hate the Yankees but i have to give Damon props! Here is a link to a recap for the game. The double steal is in there. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2009/11/johnny-damon-double-steal-video.html

I doubt Brad Lidge will be back with the Phillies next year even if Philly comes back from 1-3 down. After the way he struggled during the regular season and then what happened last night, it's highly reminiscent of the demise of Mitch Williams during the '93 World Series. Though I was surprised Lidge wasn't heavily booed after letting in those three runs in the 9th, like Williams was by the "home" fans in '93. And yeah, great at-bat and base running by Johnny Damon.

Too bad Cliff Lee can't pitch the next three games. I do think he will get the Phillies to game 6.Edited by: guest301

Was looking at all the headlines at MLB.com. So far, not a single article bringing up Ryan Howard's struggles at the plate. No mention of it anywhere. Of course, the headline was big for Burnett struggling last night.

Thank God Chase Utley's performance stole the headlines or the media would be roasting Burnett until the next game on Wed. I would love to see Chase break the WS record for HR's.

Booby Valentine made a comment about how Ryan Howard couldn't hit him if he walked through the batter's box!
