I can cut Mel some slack for having to do some damage control.

But I will not forgive him if he casts Leonardo DiCaprio as a Viking leader.
What's wrong with DiCaprio?

All you can do is speak the truth Reb, you can't control the outcome. I admire what you did though, few Christians ever want to make a righteous judgement of a fellow believer because so many Christians have misinterpeted scriptures on judging so badly that they think it's wrong to make any kind of judgement at all. Just plain stupid.

Kinda like you not wanting to "judge" Mel Gibson because he "makes movies those of us like so much". I guess lots of people have limits on who and when they apply their beliefs.

DiCaprio's not that bad in my eyes. He played a sappy role in the Titanic, but played a pretty bad ass part in the movie 'The Departed". I read an article saying Leo had a real interest in Viking culture, so at least he's passionate about the people he will be playing.

No one is mentioning the Road Warrior. His character is an icon on what a hero should be.

I just don't see DiCaprio as a Viking. Not a tough guy. I could see him as maybe the cabin boy on a Viking ship, that's about it.

But I could be wrong. I will for sure see the movie when it comes out.

No, you got it wrong. I have made judgements about him just not nearly as harsh and unfair as the ones you make about him.

By the way, the movie was very good last night. I give it a A-. The phrase "everything is illegal in Massachusetts" repeated several times during the movie got alot of audience laughs. Not nearly as violent as I thought it was going to be and the plot had some nice twist and turns in it. I won't post any more details in case others have not seen it yet.

side note; I saw a upcoming preview last night of a sequel to the Wall Street movie that starred Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen. You guys remember the movie with Gordon Gekko(spelling) as the corrupt businessman and his infamous catch phrase "greed is good". The previews look interesting but with Oliver Stone directing this could be another hit piece on capitalism and free enterprise.

Lots of irony in this thread, lol, starting with DiCaprio as a Viking. He may be able to pull it off but it was definitely a wtf moment for me when I read here that he would actually STAR in a movie about Vikings.

Gibson has made some great movies, as others here have pointed out. If y'all are waiting for some guy in Hollywood or the NFL to come out and start talking sh*t about Jews or blacks or discrimination against whites, I get the feeling you'll be waiting a long time. I think Gibson's apology saved his career. Yeah, he's rich but do you think he'd still be able to pull off making movies like Viking or whatever if he hadn't apologized, or reiterated his remarks while sober? He'd have been ostracized by everyone ('cept CF'ers) including the movie going public.

Anyone want to put odds on whether there will be a strong African character in the Viking movie?

There better not be. Hopefully Mel will stay historically accurate. The Republican Bill O'Reilly seems to think Mel's a pinhead! Haha. I think Mel was smarter drunk than sober. Maybe he was showing his true side while intoxicated. I hope so. I hope he makes a WWII movie and throws the frankfurt school in there...

Well, if Bill O'Reilly doesn't like him, Mel must be OK!

One summer day in the 70's, I went into a movie theater to kill an afternoon. I saw a movie titled, "The Norseman," about some Vikings who sail to the American coast before the English settlers. One of the "Vikings" was played by Ram Hall of Fame DE Deacon Jones. It was explained during the film that he had been captured when the Vikings sailed to the African coast. This film soon disappeared and has been little seen.

Hold on a minute now. Let's not forget Alan Page, Carl Eller and Jim Marshall. They were great Vikings back in the day.
