Super Fight 5/26 - Lucian Bute V Carl Froch

Hope Froch can rematch Ward. If he fights like this he will beat any 168 pounder.

No need for a rematch though Bute has one in his contract.

How happy should we be that the Ward-Bute match didn't happen?

Styles make fight, I think Bute may have beaten Ward.

Bute didn't seem as energetic, he didn't move around as quickly today as he normally does.

Home advantage means a lot, that's why the cowardly Andre Ward refused to fight overseas during the Super Six.

Call me crazy, but I think Bute will beat Froch if there is a rematch in Montreal.

Won't happen. Bute broke mentally and physically.

But Ward would be a better matchup for Lucian than Froch.

I missed it live but it's up on Youtube already. It may not stay up though.

Froch's corner rushed into the ring while the ref was still counting, and Froch didn't stay in a neutral corner either. Don't know if anyone will try to make something out of that. It didn't effect the fight in any way, but it was a violation of the rules.

There is something wrong in Quebec with their boxers. This fight reminded me of Lemieux-Rubio. Both looked incredibly passive and vulnerable defensively and what was meant to showcase their elite status turned into a nightmare. Such a waste of talents, i'm gutted. I still hope the best possible for Lucian.

As Larry Merchant says, "boxing is the theater of the unexpected". Wow, no way did I think this would be the out come. I thought Bute would get a late round TKO or UD. Especially after Frochy's pedistrian losing effort against Ward.

I have not viewed the fight yet, but from what I am reading Frochy walked down Bute, while taking his power shots, then utterly brutalized him with the subsequent KO over him. Congrats to Carl. Great Win. I hope Bute can regroup and win again.

If I was Bute, I would cash in on the rematch clause and fight Froch in Canada and prove he is more than what he was last night.

Thanks man! I sensed that Froch might be stronger mentally than Bute and that Lucian does not like a street fight.

I don't know what to think at this point. I hate putting down our fighters but we have to ask an important question, Was Bute a fraud? He hadn't faced any A level fighters until Froch. Andrade was his biggest win. I don't believe this loss was the fact that Froch was too good.

Bute had a bad night, but he'll be back.

Lucian beat a lot of top 10 (at the time) super middleweights such as Bika, Berrio, Magee, Johnson, and Andrade, and he was impressive in stopping many other decent opponents like Miranda, Mendy and Zuniga.

Bute wasn't himself last night, he seemed lethargic and rather flat-footed. Normally he's more energetic and quicker, and he moves around the ring more easily.

Lucian has had a very bad infection in his foot and so he couldn't spar or exercise the past few weeks. He's been on antibiotics.

Yeah, Bute was slower and Froch was faster than usual. Froch's jab took Bute out of his game plan. And Froch just looked to be the much stronger man. Does Bute just take a Mulligan on this one and go for a rematch after such a beating? The rule of thumb is a man stopped in a fight gets knocked out sooner in a rematch, especially at the A level.

Could be Bute was just king of the B fighters.

After the shock wears off Bute has a lot of thinking to do.

I too expected a fairly easy Bute points win. Aside from Froch's win over the chinny Taylor I haven't thought he would win any of his big bouts. To the naked eye doesn't look the fastest or most coordinated boxer. His power isn't spectacular and his skills are decent but not a classic boxers. I will say this is he is fighting hard to the last bell and his stamina is top notch. Another huge win for the Brit!

Just viewed the fight. A couple of things. Bute fought well for 2 rounds. And he did look a bit slower than usual. He was landing some good power shots as well.

But I believe last night Froch was not going to be denied. He walked thrue all of Bute's hard shots and seemed to enjoy the battle. He could not miss with his looping rights or lefts. He had great instincts knowing that Bute was hurt and finished him off in spectacular fashion.

Like I said, all is not lost for Bute. Excersie the option for an immediate rematch in Quebec, change up the game plan a little and a possible win, but make buco money there. He will need to be in outstanding condition and box more though.

First of all let me say that I was completely wrong about this fight. I predicted a Bute KO 9 result, and that turned out to be far removed from the reality of it.

Im a huge fan of Lucian Bute. Being a European/Canadian, Ive been following Bute as a big fan for about 7 or 8 years now. I feel sad to see him getting beat up like that and TKO'd against the ropes. That last sequence of punches was brutal, and Lucian is lucky they stopped it then cuz another 2 or 3 shots and it would have been *really* bad. I really expected Lucian to do better in this fight, and I felt he was a much better boxer than Froch.

Getting knocked out doesn't mean the end of Lucian's career. Over history many boxers have been KO'd on offnights then come back better than before (Wlad Klitschko, Joe Louis, Lennox Lewis are notable examples of guys who've been KOd then returned even more successfully than they were before the loss).

I dont think this is the end of the road for Lucian and I do expect to be seeing him back in titlefights in the future.

Lucian has a rematch clause in the contract for this fight, so if Lucian wants, he could potentially fight Carl Froch in an immediate, mandatory rematch in Montreal. However, news reports are suggesting that Lucian will not be pursuing this.

Call me crazy, but I still think Lucian is a better fighter than Carl. Lucian looked to be having an offnight. I am shocked and still find this all unbelievable to be honest. Carl is one hell of a tough guy. But I really think Lucian has a lot more skills than he showed in this fight.

Anyway, credit where its due, Carl Froch got a career best performance and looked sensational in giving Bute this loss. Great fight from Carl. Just for kicks, if anyone bet on a Frock KO, you'd be receiving something like +400 odds (that is, winning 400$ for every 100$ bet).

Great upset from Carl!
